Arb - re. taking out the trees we have plenty of (some would say too much!) space and they're 15 years old now, plus they do feed the birds as well as us (we have lots of blackbirds!) - but maybe adding some new ones wouldn't be a bad idea...except, as I said, we are a bit marginal, and even some of the ones that are supposed to do well at altitude in this area have not done that well...but with global boiling things may improve!Re. the sitooterie am with you Dusty on the need for hardstanding - I still have to move our table/chairs every time I mow which is a PITA, but just can't seem to find a place where hard-standing would be suited - our house is just oriented all wrong, otherwise would have a lovely conservatory! (in our dreams anyhow...)...6

Surely not?! I’ve lightened the pic to make it easier to see, but it looks like the 3 Kerr’s Pink spuds have started to sprout. I only planted them on 2nd May... 😳

, even the living one I bought is looking weak and looking forward to Valhalla
Perhaps the bullfinches swooped in one night & scoffed my Aquilegia seeds?Hence sowing 5 packets in the hope something decides it likes it here

Dear posters, may I change my mind about Cat wee trees? AKA May / hawthorn.I was out checking on Things and getting a photo of the May tree in full flower over the back of me, it's in full sun, and I was down wind. Yep, cat weeHere it isThe cones in middle foreground on left are new ones, not in my garden, but I get to enjoy themThe blurry apple, bottom left, is mineEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7

A Gull’s derrière on top of my roof this afternoon....
My first Aquilegia has opened (sorry to Farway and AR)...
And the blossom on my Rowan (doesn’t smell like wee, thankfully, but I’m not a fan of the smell)...
Too warm to do any gardening, apart from some half-hearted sweeping up, so I put a chair in my potential sitooterie. Hmm, I could smell something, I’m just not 100% sure it was bin smell (neighbour’s bins were in full sun at this point and just a couple of feet away) but whatever it was, it wasn’t very nice 😕'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -

And the blossom on my Rowan (doesn’t smell like wee, thankfully, but I’m not a fan of the smell)...The blossom on my wee tree has to compete with 2 septic tank vent pipes, about 2 metres away. All part of country living, folks!I tend not to notice any of them, but then Ivor across the road manures his fields about 4 times a year.....
Aquilegias? My 'white' seeds came up, but I neglected them, and the tiny plants died in the early spring.I have plenty self-seeded, so I could have pretended otherwise.
Frankly, with all the potting compost problems etc, right now, it's best to let them get on with it themselves.
Anyway, here's some I did earlier of a similar colour to yours pp. If I'd tried for the angle you achieved, I might still be down there!Another wonderfully bright & clear morning, but I understand the hot weather isn't to last past Sunday, and that's if we're lucky. Apparently, last night was perfect for seeing the Northern Lights, so I kept looking, but not a flicker.

Sorry you've caught CatWeeItis Farway
I always thought they smelt lovely, like a creamy soapy clean smell, but these last few years they all smell like cat wee to me. Prolly cos of Brexit, or something. (And a very quiet woo hoo for your grapes.)
Pp samphire is a love/hate thing I think. It grows along shore lines, looks like asparagus/mare's tails, and tastes like salty grass. It's nice with a squeeze of lemon on it and a good cut of butter. V yummy When I can get any (not often) I eat them with a pile a new tatties slathered in salt and black pepper and more butterThe Majorcan new tatties are goood this year. Double yum. My apple tree was planted last year, it's a Domesticus Tescoii Discovery. That and the sick sorrowful pear were presents from Lovely Neighbour when we moved in. It's the one doing the best, but then it's the only one that's been planted and left alone... #Shawshank
Don't stop rambling taff, I don't stand out as much if someone else is the same ha haa! Anyway it's not rambling, you've just got a lot of things to shareHopefully you find something marvelous at the plant sale... I don't know what kinda of time 10 is to start either - that's practically lunch time! Better be a butty van.
That's a s0d about your runner beans 2p, I bet they waited for you to buy moreAnd are you sick of that stool yet....?
Are we adding your spider crabs to the collection then Dusty? I can pick and dress crabs but it's an erseache of a job so I buy them already done. Life's too short. I like your woodpecker btw, aren't they beautiful clear pictures. I don't think I've ever seen a woodpecker in real life. Heard them but not seen them. Ditto cuckoos. My Oracle-given aquilegia look similar, I'll go get a pic. They're a lovely colour combo but I'm still hoping for a contrast from pp's seed...
OT it's a lovely morning here, gentle sunshine and nice cool breeze. Was a bit warm yesterday though, up to 22' and no breeze at Posh Friend's house so her garden was bakingMum and dad had a nice breeze and good shade (they're under a tree) which Daddy will hate but mum will be happy. Swings and roundabouts eh. Also - big news - the sobers were wrong and the drunkards Devonians were right again yesterday! Today they've given a bit sunny/cloudy all day 'til 1800, then just cloud. High of 17'. That'll do me. Reports of low pressure and ropier weather coming though, particularly for you westerners....
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -

Top tip, for anyone conversant with Day of the Triffids, watch out for blind people & weird seedlings todayForecast is hot again, watered some pots already, but it's the carp compost drying out quickly, not baking sunI've got my Booster jab midday, so hoping to double up my journey by planting a Morries white lavender in the large pot at the volunteer place while I'm out. Will also recce area where I think I'm going to put the “free” crab apple from T & M.Once I'm back from jabbing I may get on & sort out some conservatory pots this afternoon, no rush but needs doingI think my grass needs mowingEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
I was going to put up pics of garden stuff but Beloved Cousin has sent me some cracking pics of the northern lights, they were that strong you could see a bit of it with the naked eye! I’ll have to work out how to get them onto here from a text so in the meantime here’s -
… Tesco apples……and Ska/pear……and aquilegia being helpful showing it’s upside and downside at once…… and yes it is sat in a jug to have a drink cos being fastidious about having the same number of pots and trays means when you run out of pots you run out of trays ha haa 🙄I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
I won't be the only one to say it - that pot is too small for that pear. No wonder it's sulking
Beans are in a wrapped in their wooly blankets. Kept the slugs out so far.
The extras I'm going to offer to a friend. I'll keep my own for emergencies.
I now have a small woodland of tomato plants germanating. All the previous seeds plus the new ones.
Bluey, you're not having my table or Bess the bunny. She now has a home inside where she's safe.
Good luck with the jab Farway. Something nice to do afterwards is always a good thing.
And yes, some of my pots have got mixed up without throwing them on the floor.
Roses are out here along with wisteria and such. Almost like summer.
The fountain is rubbish. The solar panel only works in direct sunlight so you walk past, it stops. A cloud, it stops, and of course no working in the evening. That will be another post.
Wort I think, Erigeon? Doesn't like being moved. Plants don't work. You need seed. Walk around in a week or two and brush off the seed where it's growing near roadside etc and bury it in your garden.
If you can't find any I can send you some if you assure me you're not an axe murderer or stalker
Bright and sunny. The ground is hard and dry already.
Need to take a drive over the moor for honey. I'll wave at Dusty as I see Devon. I'm aching too much to garden yet today.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
