Awful weather - typical Brits talk

2p you are an inspiration. I went to morries this morning for fish for the dinner, and while I did have a look round their plants I didn’t lift anything! Not a thing! Even though they had Acers (green or dark red - £3.50) and I want one. Or one of each. I did feel smug
Also, a correction. My toms are not picolo from Lidl, they’re called piccolato and are from Aldi 🙄 I’m still fervently hoping they grow. I might have to buy a yellow tom plant if I see one.Sun’s out now but the breeze isn’t too warm. More weeding to do and rasps to plant and roses to nurse. They’ve got funny spots on their leaves (rust maybe, will research) and aren’t looking happy. Sorrowful/sick pear looks marginally better (himself planted it while I was away), he also moved my azalea because he thought it’d be better where you can see it from the kitchen window *sigh* Cat Wee Tree is in full flow now, gawd but it stinksAs I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...6 -
Beautiful sunset pic, Dusty - we're getting a few good sunsets here too.
I didn't see any vine weevil grubs inside the geum pot, so fingers crossed. Reminds me of a scene in Master and Commander (great film - recommended) where the Captain (Russell Crowe) makes a quip about one grub being the lesser of two weevils
I thought you'd saved some Piccolo seeds as well, Farway. I seemed to remember you mentioning it ages ago after you had bought the toms in one of the supermarkets. Maybe some other variety. Piccolo are lovely tomatoes - one of my favourites.
I've bagged up the last of the compost, although the bottom bit was more like soil tbh. Nine bags in total. I've also dug out the parent rhubarb and it's been relocated to another part of the garden. I'm not that bothered about it this year because of the horrible brown stuff on the leaves - they all got pulled off and disposed of a while back.
I'm feeling a bit like Little Miss Muffet at the moment - I'm sat on the bed and a spider has just abseiled down beside me from the ceiling haha.'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Lesser of two weevils 😆 I just blew tea out me nose!Gawd sake - I came on to say anyone needing cheering up, here’s a babby robin being fedAs I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...8

Pots weeded, added some Q4 I had and planted on the only four survivors of my marigold seed packet, they'd better be good, hopefully will set seed & all will be well. I meant to sow a few radishes but forgot. The slugs have had a right old go at my beans
, some are hanging & may make it. Just in case, I've poked sowed some more seeds alongside the stubs.

Glad you thought same about Piccolo seed saved, it's not just me going mad thenYBE, ahh, robins, can you tip them off about the aphids on my rose?Get those rasps planted, my old yellow one is in flower, pic to follow once I sort it.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
Another one that remembers your piccolo savings Farway, you’ve them there somewhere….Rasps are planted. I didn’t know how much root space they need (deep and thin or wide and shallow) so I squiggled them into 3 old fence paint pots for that’s all I have. I don’t think rasps can read so it’ll be fine. No more buying anything though cos that’s me out of big pots.Roses are all turning against me (according to rhs website). I’ve rust AND sawflies AND black spots and brown crinkly edges dagnammit
The robins are hanging round so I’ve told them to leap of the fence and go left and keep going ‘til you see a man waving you down. So keep your eye out :l:lol:
Arb have you fallen head first into your lovely new beds? Do we need to send a rescue party…?Also - bird bum. The Cat Wee Tree is full of them (suspect more babbies)
I hope you’re all sat down for this shocker - the drunkards were wrongIt’s sunny and glorious like wot the sobers said.
As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...6 -
What is the cat wee tree, YBE, I can’t remember if you’ve said before?? My DD came for her dinner the other night and said she could smell cat wee - it turned out to be the Loyd Grossman pasta sauce I was heating up - I kid you not!! 😳
Shame about your roses 😕 hopefully they can be saved.
Your piccolo seeds must be somewhere, Farway 🤔
I was wondering where AR was too - I think she might have said she was going away for work??'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Bluey, I'm glad I'm an inspiration to someone.
Maybe misplaced as I was seriously eyeing up those taller maples in Tesco today. Day of dentristy so I was seriously in need of a present......but I've resisted because I'd like it out front which is north east with permanent wind - so wrong
My neighbour has a huge one in a pot that used to be her dads. So beautiful!
Instead I headed for the moors with a flask and a book. Skylarks, wild ponies and fabulous views..
Your roses will be fine. They can loose all their leaves and still come back.
Just try and get rid of as many fallen ones up and out.
Sounds like you're getting on with it at last Farway.
Ive got 3 tiny tomato shoots showing. They're TINY! Still only one bean
Hi pops, where's wort? Off galaventing again?
Yes Arbs is working. She probably needs the rest
It was 18c and all sunshine today. Amazing!
Back to normal tomorrow.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I think wort sometimes does long shifts, or works overnight sometimes, like DD2. She's currently stuck in Exeter after a long night shift, thanks to the train strikes. Won't be in till 08.10 after leaving here for work at 17.00 yesterday.Mrs Dusty is back from her travels, looking after older members of the family, so with good weather days in prospect again, we may get the garden knocked into better shape than it is currently. With all the new growth and flowers, 'holes' in the planting don't notice much, but come July, they will!As predicted, I had problems with the last connection to my 'waterworks' (!) yesterday.
Just a drip, but it couldn't be ignored. Eventually it was fixed and everything buried, so now it's a deep bed for the tomatoes. Some of them are happy, some not, but I agree with the Shawshank Method, and I've time for little else anyway. Given perfect growth, I'll have: Floridity, Sungold, (two staples) Datlo, Veranda Red, Gardeners' Ecstasy (sp?!) and Sue's Best Ever. Right now, Sue's Best is Dusty's Worst! Tough Paridaes Sue! (Loving this approach.
)
In other news.... there isn't any, but I don't think I posted the new entrance gates, so here they are. Job's complete, apart from the planting, and property values nearby have plummeted by 20%.Edit: Yes, there is room to drive the ride-on between the small gate post and the polytunnel, thankfully! Not buying into it.7 -
That looks very neat and tidy and clean Dusty, I wonder how long it'll stay like that for
We'll either have to shut the door so we get no more in, or I'll have to stop writing individual things in response to people's posts. Or I could get some electric shock treatment to get my stoopid brain back on track. I thought it was Arb that worked away (with lovely pics on return) and wort is sailing the globe somewhere atm but does work away sometimes too...?
I don't know what the Cat Wee Tree actually is pp, I think yous said some sort of thorn - black or haw or may I can't remember. It's a shame it upsets my eyes+nose cos it's quite attractive really, the flower clusters (?) look like clouds from the right angle, and the birds love the berries. The sparrows/tits etc are feeding their tiny tufty babies under the cover of the foliage too.
Thanks for the rose advice 2p. I've been nipping the diseased leaves off cos I don't want to spray anything really, with all the wee birds about now. How're your birds btw? Heading for the moors with a flask and a book, with the skylarks and wild ponies sounds like heaven. I'll not ask what was in your flaskWill you try planting more tom and bean seeds....?
OT bit cloudy out there but it's the high white stuff so might burn off. Sobers say it won't and drunkards disagree. Both say it'll be warm though - up to 20' by 1600. According to the sober's 10 day forecast this morning was the last time we'll have a single digit temperatureSt Fiacre please don't make a hot summer, please don't.
As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...5
