After reading Less & AR's posts, I clearly have a lot to learn about growing potatoes... Mine are still chitting away upstairs.
No baby birds here, but we did have a very cute baby bunny in the back garden the other day.
I spent 20 minutes yesterday tentatively searching for a trapped bee that I could hear buzzing. I thought it had maybe been brought in with the washing. Turned out to be someone with a strimmer outside - probably just as well I'm seeing the audiologist tomorrow haha
I read your garden wall thread, YBE, looks exciting. I'm waiting to do my 'landscaping' until the bluebells have been and gone (they're just coming out now and looking lovely under the two Rowans we have). I have loads to do here to keep me busy, but I'm struggling with CBA-itis...
It's a beautiful morning here and forecast sun all day'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
My Christmas amaryllis, pic taken in the late evening sun last night...

Ooh that's a beautiful amaryllis pp, looks well in the sunshine
I'd start getting your tatties in the ground, they might be chitted enough to get going and then you're one step nearer to fresh tatties
Himself is off today so I need to find something to occupy him.. I don't want him in the house all day, but I don't want him doing any more 'gardening', and I don't want to tell him to go play outside in case he goes round the shops and spends too much money and then I'll not get my fancy wall
Answers on a postcard.....
"Builder won't let his Dad work in the rain and cold" I love that
So who's gonna win the tatties race then, Less or Arb... or will pp come galloping up the outside at the last minute?
Looks like it was a good thing your tree was just left outside Farway - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-68928464
Lovely warm sunny day here, NE breeze is to get up soon though. They say. Did you suvveners get all that bad weather they predicted?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
I did like wouldn't let his dad work in the rain too. Good on him, bad for you though dusty...Fingers crossed for a rapid finish up.YBL, I did enjoy that news story. Youve got to ask though, if she was wearing a motorbike helmet, why was his thumb so far inside it she could bite it off? You cant push your mouth past the opening. I doubt she guided his hand there herself. It's dull and damp at the moment, I'll be sowing some more cosmos, I've swapped some for a jade plant, I'm hoping to keep that alive.Very interesting about the potato experiments. I entered [ahem..] a competition by the gardening group to see who can grow the most potatoes from one potato in a bucket [think supermarket flower bucket size] using the same compost and potato. It's a Desiree one, and I did sacrifice an egg in the bottom to feed it. We'll see...Arb? Kitten? sorry, but I defintiely need pics of her....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

PP, that is a beautiful picture, amaryllis can be very rewarding and spectacular. It tipped down here last night, plus thunder etc, at 0200, checked time on way to looStill damp & dark, wouldn't be surprised if we got more, but I see it's Dusty's turn this morning, if it was like mine then the building work will certainly stop as Dad getting wet card is playedDustyevsky said:YoungBlueEyes said:Fingers crossed T+M play fair. , I have a cunning plan ready for if T & M say keep the crab.
It would arouse suspicion and comments if it just popped up overnight on the vergeInitially my idea was selling on FB with any cash off setting my volunteer plants spend. However, thinking on there could be a space, behind the brambles, in a quite corner, adjacent to Dr's car park where it could hide for a couple of years until it gets going. There are flowering crabs around there, so one more could blend in nicely, hidden in plain sight as they sayNo response yet from T & M, but it's early days. All this spud growing is wearing me out, very scientific though and the results will be useful IMO.Despite the damp weather, I've put the toms out to continue hardening upAnd, toot toot! The Cosmos have germinated, as have some lavendersI'll try hard not knock them on the floor later.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8 -
Farway, thanks for the info about Beaulieu, I am now dreading it because I'm driving there...I hope it isn't too bad, maybe if it lashes it down, people will stay away
I'll take my waterproof!
I'm sure it'll be too much hassle for them to take back the tree, so yay! free tree!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6 -

Some bits done this morning - five borage potted on (into three pots as three of the seeds germinated too close to separate without damaging the roots). I know borage doesn't like to be transplanted (recommendation is to sow directly) but at this stage there's so much in the garden that I wouldn't mind if it failed... also potted on six salad burnet and four perpetual leeks - hoping those both survive, but I do have space set aside for them and more seed to direct sow if need (blatant favouritism).
I've also got 5 'spare' tomato plants that were late to germinate and are now about 2 inches tall with their first sets of true leaves, and three late germinating courgettes which still only have their cotyledon leaves. I'll see how they do and might end up replacing one or more of the ones that I've already planted out (or if some get eaten by slugs) to increase the varieties I'm growing this year.

They wander into the village as well, which slows things down, of course.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5 -
Beautiful kitty, AR 🖤
I’ve found a sprouty baking potato (Saxon??) in my kitchen, so that’s going to be planted today, along with the ones upstairs (thanks for the kick up the bahookie, YBE 😂).'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Arb, she;s gorgeous and what an expression!Farway, thanks, it's going to take an hour and half to get there normally, so two it is....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi4
