I've just been outside admiring my handiwork (yes, I managed to get that huge root out with the mattock, axe, drainage spade thing, a garden rake and brute force
) very pleased with how it looks now, even if my back and dodgy elbow are protesting loudly. I'm pretty sure I couldn't fit a greenhouse in the space though and I've gone back to my original idea of a wee sitooterie
It would mean blocking next door's bins somehow, but I'd always planned on having a trellis or something there to raise the fence level a bit. It's only a small space, but big enough for a bench or a couple of chairs, some potted plants, a BBQ and a wee table to put my glass of wine on
It's a lovely evening, hard to believe we're forecast heavy rain and polar bears tomorrow'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Well done Poppy
My snug backs close to my neighbours conservatory door and the cat litter tray.
I've used some expanding trellis to the top and a climbing hydrangea and a wisteria grow up to a thicket.
If you want something quicker a proper good clematis (not a morries one) or the Star Jasmine which is dense enough to block the flies
My neighbour stores hers a couple of feet from my back door - which I like open. Cats use them to jump over and flies, GrrrI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Gosh you lot have so many photos of blooming things, it's lovely
I am so far behind with my climate, someone mentioned Rhododendron in bloom, mine are at least a month or 2 away
Brief calm at the moment, !!!!!! rain tomorrow with a maximun of feels like 5 followed by Friday feels like 1 and 45 mph winds
The greenhouse is still regularly going under 3 degrees overnightso tomatoes and courgettes will be inside for a while yet
Current view from kitchen window, I am enjoying my daffodils whilst I am sure most of yours have gone over

Love the colours you've put together Pas
Indeed, we have Greencombe Gardens where the azaleas and rhodies are in full display.
And we also have the wild cold wind ......

Your garden has as much colour as mine Pas, and right now we're at -2c, though it will hit 11 c later, according to the inebriates in Exeter.Although you have a later spring, do you also have a later autumn? I'm reminded we do, compared with Taunton, every time we travel on the M5 in those seasons. It's only a matter of a week or two, but it's noticeable. Thanks for reminding me about Greencombe, 2p. I have <ahem> 'other concerns' in the coming week
, but hopefully we'll get over there before the erythroniums end. You mentioning the cold wind also reminds me why I came indoors last night at 18.00, rather than grovel around on the ground any longer, fitting the last connection to the polytunnel water supply.
Yes, it was the outdoor one at the path! I'd hidden inside from the north-westerly all afternoon, making the connections there first.
I suppose things could be worse. The geoengineering didn't go well in Dubai, did it?"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity5 -
Dusty I'm not sure, we will have to compare notes later in the year
I guess some plants flower later into the year as they emerge later
October can sometimes have nice days but sometimes I cannot cut the grass after September
I try to get as much colour as possible in that section since it is my sightline from kitchen door and I spend more time looking out at it than in it at this time of year5 -
Dusty if/when your neighbours ask what the machinery is for I'd purse my lips and look up to the the sky, then in a stage whisper I'd say "they're piling up, I've got to start burying them" and nod and walk away. I would too, but I'm like that.
Hurray for getting that root out pp, what's the plans for that area now? (Polar bears/cats/foxes? allowing.) I'd go for a sitooterie with trellis or something up the back of you too. When I was in morries the other week talking to those auld fellahs one said I should buy a particular clematis because it's a real goer, it'll be up the fence in no time and has a beautiful fragrance. Montana something it's called, and Montana anythings are goers he said. I'll go get the name in a min.
Beautiful daffs pas, and not a bite out of them
How's the indoor work going 2p? And are you sick of that little table yet??
I'm glad bee bum season's open again, I'll have to keep my eye out. I've still some blossom on my apple tree so there's a chance I'll get a pic...
Sun's out here now but not for long, possibly. Bbc news last night gave us rain from after lunch ish. Not very warm out there and the breeze is picking up again this aft. My tom seeds aren't really having it this year so my Hanging Baskets of Barbylon are umm hanging in the balance...I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -

Urgh, I never thought about bin flies, twopenny
Lovely garden, Pas. Our back garden daffs are still in full bloom too, unlike the front garden ones that have been flattened by the wind and look a mess. They're up against a wall and I've noticed the freestanding ones actually seem to fare better.
Bee bum season - I love that, YBEI'm still thinking sitooterie, but would really need to block next door's bins, especially as they'll be in the sun and therefore more likely to get stinky.
Dusty, sounds like a chilly start for you.
The rain has already arrived here this morning - forecast to be heavy later. It was still 18.5 degrees in the living room when I went to bed last night and that was without the fire on for the first time in months.'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Aw, I love Montana Rubens - my mum and dad had that in their garden and it was stunning. If I got that I could let it scramble over the top of the log store too.'A watched potato will never chit'...4
