And now I want a polytunnel too. I did have the use of one once, but very labour intensive as I was working at the time but I did find a home for 250 tomato plants
now I have to be satisfied with 14. Dusty, I don't blame you for moving, where I lived for 22 years suddenly shot up in price after a Royal got added, just when me and the OH were looking for something to buy, so in the end, I moved away from there..But you are a serious gardener and I am just a common or garden variety
so I don't need as much space but that doesn't mean I'm not envious of yours, even with all the problems it brings with it. The grass being greener etc..also envious of the forest, mines a poor showing compared.
ybl, I think I have a few more years on you and I didn't know eitherIt's like place names suddenly making sense as descriptions not merely words banged together. ..

Wind's dropped here, and sun is trying hard, still cold though, so I shan't be venturing far today unless it warms up a bit more.Hope it does warm up because the blossom is still here after the wind and a few bees will be handy.I'll check my pear blossom Dusty, some of mine is still around, plum has gone, maybe titchy tiny set fruits? All my tomato forest has settled down, the few marigolds & cosmos that germinated are getting leggy now so need to get outside to toughen up.pink_poppy said:I know of someone with a springer called Jerry. Lovely sunny morning here after yesterday's heavy rain. The blue sky and white clouds look like the opening credits of The Simpsons.Like the blacksmith's dog that kept making a bolt to for the door.YoungBlueEyes said:Bluddy ell Dusty, that's some forest! I've just checked and I've nothing sprouting from my tom seeds at all yet. And speaking of seeds and sproutings Farway - if you're worried about your cosmos cos I said I'd pircked mine out then good news! I spelt cosmos wrong, I meant to say Persian JewelsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
Gawd imagine being up trees in that wind
I bet it’s not a woman up there.
Agree about place names taff. On this side of the country we have all kinds of left overs from various invaders, and place names especially are a bit of a rabbit hole. Oh that means ‘Land of Person’ does it. And where was he from? He came all that far did he? So what’s that name? Oh wife got to name the stream did she? Etc etc. Love it.Would you not start some Persian Jewels inside Farway? In case of bad weather/global broiling/ice caps slipping down the globe etc?I got a wash out before I went food shopping, just in time for the rain to arrive. Well it can stop out there now, I’m not running it to the tumblers cos the road works here are dispiriting.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
Don’t send your rain west please YBE I’ve got washing out, windy and sunny here at the mo , but keeping an eye out. Thought it might of rained whilst I took his lordship to the vets for his annual booster, poor guy he cries the whole time.🐯
Im envious of you all with your seedlings everything I try doesn’t germinate, you watch all these programs that state buy seeds cheap get hundreds of plants 😩 I actually had a Farway moment when whilst drying my hair I decided to try to warm the seeds in pots on the windowsill 😉 well the clingfilm blew off and soil ended up everywhere ! Hoping it woke the seeds up .
I have definitely no room for trees , but you lot discuss them and suddenly I want one. Even though I’m not an apple fan the red one looks lovely,
I’m debating putting the last lot of seeds straight out into the garden, they are Canterbury bells mixed./ campanula but bigger than the ones I have already .🧐Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Amazed the clematis has survived the stormy weather, also the upright blossom in the background.

Wort... purple haze are a true columnar - so you could maybe squeeze it in next to that arch...
My beds are now mostly full of soil. Not the best quality have to say, very sandy, but if I can get some manure and organic material on them they should do quite well. Just sent a message to my log supplier to ask if they'd maybe do me a couple of barrow bags of chippings.
Render and rest of the path will now be towards the end of the week, so hopefully this stage will be all finished by the weekend.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.6 -
@wort I'm fairly convinced that Clematis will survive the apocalypse. We have one trailing over our shed which I hate as it blocks the path when it gets too bushy and it's a dark leaved, dark flower variety so I don't find it particularly pretty. After all my moaning last summer OH cut it down as far as he physically could and assumed that that would be that (we can't pull it up as it's rooted until the patio). Low and behold, two dark green shoots have jutted up out of the dead wood at the bottom and it's on it's way back again.
The cherry blossoms have been out for a couple of weeks now I think so perhaps you're right and some of the fruit has set already! Lazy ginger cat spent most of the morning out today so no pigeon party in the tree today.£2023 in 2023 challenge - £17.79 January6 -
Ahh Arb stop it 😆I’d have to dig the patio up , I used to have a lovely willow along the fence there but next door complained it was blocking his light 🥹 They don’t have a single plant in their garden !KMN clematis love to be cut back after flowering, so it probably invigorated it. Could you train it higher and cut off all lower sticky out bits, none of mine are bushy, so not sure if it can be done.but then the flowers and leaves would be higher up.
Decided to sow the seeds outside and do a YBE and let Shawshank prevail. Tried a method I’ve seen on tv, and chucked them into a bit of compost then scattered about. Snipped a few bits and put some feed on anything with a flower!! I always forget to feed😞
just finishing when a black cloud appeared so washing brought in just in time for the downpour. Stopped after 5 min but washing was virtually dry so it’s on the airer with dehumidifier on.
The buds are on the lilac and will possibly flower when I go on holiday and I’ll miss the delicious scent. The red rhododendron is in flower now and looking great.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Went out for lunch with Mrs Dusty today, and 'just happened' to take the Rosemoor road on the way home. This was the central Long Border, about 2 hours before closing time. The sun was out!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity6

The sun was out here too - made a nice change. Hope you and Mrs Dusty had a lovely time.
Pretty pic, wort. I'm supposed to be getting a wooden pergola, but am wondering now about a metal arch.
Hope you're feeling better today, YBE. Sorry, I meant to say that yesterday.
Missed the Aurora last night - lots of photos on Faceache this morning.
I was busy in the garden yesterday - digging out an area that was supposed to be a wee sitooterie until my neighbours put their bins on the other side of the low fence. They didn't know my cunning plan, so fair enough. I've been wondering what to do with it (it gets sun in the afternoon) and was thinking about still putting slate down and putting our bins there in the shaded bit and my potatoes in bags or pots on the sunny side, but my latest bright idea is to have a greenhouse there. The only problem is it's not a big area (I need to measure it) so squeezing one in would be tricky. I would really love a greenhouse though...
It's looking like another nice morning here - washing is swirling away in the machine ready to be pegged outside.'A watched potato will never chit'...6
