I have a friend with a lot of sparkly shiny things hanging in her trees to deter birds - she uses those mosaic covered things you get in tat shops, love hearts and baubles etc as well as cds. Could you try those kmn9?

Thanks for the invite to the Sick Bay, is that +1? Cos that cat presented himself for breakfast this morning with a baldy toe and we're not even 24 hours in. Spiteful little heathen. Could Hattie Jacques diagnose that, or will I ring Lovely Neighbour? Or ignore it and hope it cures itself? (Serious question.) My aches from actually using some muscles have submitted to my cure-all Burny Water Medicine and a good sleep, thankfully. How's the rest of the poorlies?

Not that I could tell you where I even got the packet from (naturally) but one of the things I planted was T+M Cosmos but I'm not expecting much cos it says to keep them around 25' :) The only reason it'd be that warm in my house if is if that was the outdoor temp ha haa! Echinacea is another one. I suspect I've really only given my seeds a change of scenery while they die, but *shrug* #Shawshank

I'm glad it's not just me that has a bother with the time. I keep my car clock at the real time too - it's a wee digital thing sunk into the dashboard - but my chewy brain can't bear looking at it when it's 'wrong' so I stick a blob of blutack over it 'til it comes good again

Hopefully we all get some better weather today, I'd settle for a bit less rain and some dry wind tbh. Sunshine would be good but I don't wanna push it. At least its not cold :)

So here's the baldy toe - any suggestions gratefully received. Unless it's amputation and smoothing the fur over the hole, because I don't think he'd sit still enough for that.

I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.

Looking at it, I'd guess it's a small abscess (either a cut or bite that got a bit infected). If that's right, with my cats, I know what I'd do... which I don't think I'm allowed to post on here? There's lots of resources on cat first aid online :)

But at the same time, this is not your cat, so I'd suggest it's up to you if you get in touch with the owner and ask them what they would like you to do?

Thanks Arb. I was thinking it might be an abscess cos he had 2 big ones on his back last year (they burst open leaving 2 slits down his back - hence his name). I've text a pic to Lovely Neighbour but she hasn't replied.

Why on earth not? We aren't supposed to give human health advice beyond, “Mind how you go!” but cats aren't human, even if they think they are! :D  For wounds I'd say iodine, and if that's not available, a bathe in good old salty water would come first anyway. Cat won't love you either way, but I'd bathe it and see how things go. Cats usually let you know if they're really in distress.
In other news, it's not raining here, but the drunks say it will later. They're often next to useless *, but I'd better get a wiggle on, just in case they're right! ;)

    * That's not hate speech, is it? I mean, if JKR can be investigated for saying she knows the difference between men and women, this social media's becoming a minefield. Much easier in the old days; men were the ones who wore trousers and went out to work, or at worst, pretended to work and went to the pub with the National Assistance money! >:)

Thanks all for the advice. The butterfly mesh we have atm is attempting to protect our veg patch from further deposits from a neighbourhood cat who's decided it's their litter tray. My parents have a few fruit trees in their garden and have tried the CDs/twirly things to no avail but their trees are in quite a small enclosed space that doesn't get much light or wind so nothing really spins or reflects any light. I will have a dig around my craft room and my OHs office and see what I can find that might fit the bill - there'll be some old CDs somewhere!

Not sure, but I remember posts being removed from the pets sub forum on the basis that we're not vets so shouldn't be recommending home treatment. But it's always horrible as well when you're looking after someone else's animal trying to guess what they would do/want you to do.

A while back I was on holiday a few days and someone popping by to feed/check in on the cats once a day. They called out a locksmith because they couldn't get the door open - forgetting that I'd said it sticks in the morning/when it's cold and to call late in the day or use the back door. Fine, she was worried and couldn't get hold of me immediately, but I didn't half feel annoyed at having to reimburse her the cost as well as what I was giving her for calling in to look after them... :D
