twopenny said:Dusty there's a talk on greencombe gardens next week at the nearby village hall. I hope to goodness it's illustrated otherwise it could be very boring.I go to some talks, but it's not something I'd travel far for. I'm sure they'll have photos, usually on a laptop these days. The last talk Mrs Dusty and I did was to a WI group in around 2010. I had to take a full sized desktop computer to that!Missing in action due to an elderly family member going into hospital yesterday, and helping Mrs Dusty to prepare & provide back-up. She arrived, 100 miles away, at around 23.00, just in time to ferry the old folks back home. The emergency is over, but she's staying for a few days to ensure all is well. So, with the other residents here in India, here I am on Easter Sunday on my ownsome!
It's not too bad, though.
Bright, if not sunny, and out of the wind about 11c. That'll do.
Arb, I tried to find an old photo of my covers for deep beds, but without success.Love the big, hairy, pyracantha monster pp!I will take a picture of one today.

My focus on this cold, wet and grey day is inside - namely trying the drain cleaning stuff I bought to see if that helps the dishwasher (on the assumption that when I cleaned the filter maybe I pushed some nastiness further down the mechanism).
As for easter chocolate, I bought a pack of 6 brownies from a bakery last week - had one fresh and the rest in the freezer. Microwaved one today as a treat... then immediately microwaved a second

Just back from a lovely walk along a beach 😎 where the rocks looked tartan...
And a wee reminder that we are in Scotland too... 🏴
Beautiful views...
And a daffodil selfie after I spotted a different variety on the way home (it was the only way I could take a pic because they were all facing down 😂)...

Oh that looks lovely Pops! But Scotland has the most beautiful beaches. What a nice way to spend the day.
Well the rain didn't happen after all so this afternoon I actually got to lift some turf so that will help the compost heap and room for vegfelt quite mild and just briefly the sun nearly came out.
Got some annuals planted and staking for tomatoes and beans - I'm optimistic.
I checked my seedling pots for slugs and a few enjoying the damp went on a journey next door.
Bluey, the reason I won't cut the hedge to show the tulips is because the once I did it that let the box moth in
They've grown a bit taller now it's stopped hailing on them.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I am happy, happy, happy
Hit 13 degrees but more importantly no wind
Did 6 hours in the garden, I ache all over but I am happy with what I got done
Still a mountain to climb and no more good weather forecast but Rome wasn't built in a day
Lots of neighbours cut their grass but mine is still too wet due to orientation and neighbours extension and overgrown trees and shrubs
It's still March there is time, I have to keep telling myself this as I would love to blitz all the jobs in one day
But the garden is big and I am little8 -
Aw Paspatur, well done. Do you have a bath in your house? or feet up on the settee with the beverage of your choice..Don't do it all in one day unless you are in your 20s!Just dropped in to say - internet not streaming and then suddenly torrential rain straight down, hail, thunderSuch a switch around.Looks like it's right along the south west but missing Farway and Dusty.Watching the soil wash down from the lawn all over my clean paving
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I loved The Well Gardened Mind @Paspatur. I’m also suffering after a couple of days of hard gardening - I have a couple more no-dig beds built and have shifted a lot of compost and soil to fill them. I now need to work out where the rest will go and how much more topsoil and compost I’ll need to fill them. I’m running short of bricks/rocks to hold the sides up (but my mum apparently has some that she wants gone), and wood (but have two pallets to take apart - unfortunately they’re nice strong euro pallets not flimsy ones so might take some work). I’m also taking a branch off the apple tree - I’ve done everything I can with loppers, and started the next stage with a pruning saw, so by the time I do the main limb with a bow saw it won’t be too heavy or unwieldy.
Lots of people are giving me seeds and plants, so I really need to get going.7 -
Good morning all, raining here to start the day... but I've opened the gate as apparently I'm expecting the builders in the next hour or two. Need to remember tonight to put the bins out (and to tell the builders it's bin day for any bits of rubbish they're accumulating or finding in the garden).
Remember when I planted out all those lavender in the front last year? Well I basically dug a maybe 10 inch wide trench in what was 'lawn', filled it with compost, and put the lavender in... I assumed the lavender would grow fast enough I didn't need to worry about the grass regrowing/reseeding the area. That seems to have been a mistake as I can't actually see the lavender plants at this point. How do I weed grass stems (do I weed grass stems) without pulling up the lavender plants (which are now about maybe 15/20cm tall - or should I just wait and the lavender will get a growth spurt as soon as it warms up a but... or should I dig the whole lot back out again and just buy more lavenderI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -
Forget what I said about yous dropping to bits cos I'm in the same boat now
Well probably 'used some muscles and they're now in shock' would be more accurate but still. It was quite a nice day here yesterday, not warm and the sun went in about 3 ish when the wind got up and wasn't warm at all really. But I've got the grass cut, and got a good few seeds in so fingers crossed they'll be happy enough to grow now. Maybe the reason smaller bags of compost are more popular is cos the big ones are bladdy heavy! Himself finished painting the fence so I was stirring big tubs of paint to refill his wee tub from, and bending and holding back my plants for him to paint behind. Jeez I can feel it this morning. But it's all done, for now
Dusty I hope the family are ok and it was nothing serious? Bread and jam and pints of beer for your dinner yesterday then was it ha haa!
Did you get your dishwasher to behave Arb? If not they'll maybe have some ideas on the In My Home board. It'd save calling someone out...
That looks like a cracking beach pp, if I had a beach like that near me I'd never be off itLove your patriotic rocks, and how about them daffs!
Good weather and good work done, I'd be happy happy happy about that too Pas
Oh aye, your box moth 2pThat just leaves raising your self/chair higher while they grow to full height. Where there's a will...
So have you got a plan for your garden then gb? What plants and seeds are people giving you...?
Miserable and damp and drizzly and cool out there this morning. It's been raining since about 7 last night and I reckon it might go all day cos there's no wind to blow it over. The drunkards say no rain and the sobers say it stopped an hour ago, so it will therefore rain 'til tomorrow.
Oh and Lovely Neighbour left a couple hours ago for Spain for a week, and I'm on cat dutyI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5
