Wet and soggy at 7c right now, then drying a little and cooling before more rain. It looks like Wednesday will be the first day for 'proper' activity outdoors, but I may be able to do something useful between the waves of H2O. It won't be lawn mowing anyway; there's always an up-side!Our hedge-cutting tractor man failed to materialise yesterday, much as expected.
Today, we're due to see the digger man about work in the spring to carve out our new farm track and change a few other things our difficult neighbours won't know about until we do them.
Much as though I'd love to push on with that right now, unless there are compelling reasons to move quickly, it makes sense to wait until winter is done and the land isn't a mass of sogginess.
Hope the MoT goes better for you than you expect 2p. The same for your experiences with the Dr and dentist; it's all coming at once for you! When Mrs Dusty and I were in a medical establishment last Saturday, I noticed their hebes were in desperate need of a trim. While I wasn't able to help much, one or two extra long bits were dealt with and brought home, rather than leaving them untidily on the footpath. I hope they do as well as my Hebe morrisoni carparkii did!
Somebody mention cats? I have one, somewhat chameleon-like, wondering what's inside this hollow bit of elm:"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8 -
Bladdy hell, that's queer innit - the cat and elm being the same colour, and the cut end of the elm looks like a paw print
Morrisoni carparkii, that made me chuckle!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
I have same weather as Dusty today, wet & soggy but heatwave at 8C, it's very dark as well and needs a light on indoors at the momentGood luck with MOT and the rest of it 2P, not ideal timing just before Christmas, but then it is never a good time.Garden waste wheelie bin has made it round the front ready for collection tomorrow, if they turn up etc. While juggling the bin into position, I noticed some of my sedums that had been broken down and snapped off by passing trades folk delivering "stuff" were growing, lots of fresh cuttings to find homes for. They do root readily, probably easier than Hebe morrisoni carparkii or in my case Buddleia co-opiiiEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6

Dusty that's a beautiful kitkat you've got there
One of the things I love about here vs when I lived in a city has been that the cats stay closer to home - purely because there's enough to keep them interested/entertained in the nearby gardens with them not all being small concrete things. I could do without the seemingly endless supply of frogs that my kitten seems to think are squeaky toys though
YBE - I used to love reading and spending a lot of time doing it, but I realised in the dark times of 2020 that it had been years since I read a book for pleasure... so I've been doubling(ish) my reading target each year. Biggest challenge has been finding books I enjoy enough to actually finish (plus the app only counts books read in the app). I'm fairly sure I'm not going to meet the goal this year, but I think anything above 100 is a win.
I woke up to my knee aching at me this morning and ended up taking a couple of ibuprofen and I'm currently sitting with a heat pad on it. I hope this is sleeping badly one night and isn't going to be a new thing... If I start falling apart now before I'm, even 40 then I'll have nowhere to go when I'm officially 'old'I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.7 -
Farway said:-taff said:I didn't realise haricots were so difficult to grow, or do they mean grow commercially?I think easy to grow, but there's something about British grown that makes our ones not suitable for normal baked beans, maybe weather or soil or whatever.Like British wheat not really suitable for modern bread making without cheating on baking, milling methods, loads of fertiliser, due to lack of protein or summat.I never knew that about wheat either, I learn something new every day! YBL, I would try your soup but not with baked beans
I like all beans, as long as they aren't baked beans in a tin. I do have a craving for a half sized tin every couple of years, eaten cold out of the can with a spoon but no...just no....I did like the sheltland cam though, I spied a couple of walkers when it shifted to the left, they looked cold. nice snow pic too.
2p, that sounds like my perfect job being as I read every day and can get through a book in a couple of hours[or less, depending]. My sister puts the african gamekeepers channel to watch on while she's working sometimes, lots of roaming round in jeeps telling tourists where to look, some of them are very funny.Dusty, impressive plant snatchage going on there. I have some Costcoian santolina somehwerepretty kitty!
And don't worry arb, there's always a further down to go to....:) on that happy note....time to do some washing since it's damp and cold outside and that means I am not gardening today.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6 -
Bad luck with the knee Abs. You've probably 'just done something to it' being the spring chicken you are30 is usually the age when mispent youth things come back to bite you but you've got another 30yrs before it really kicks inKeep in mind that I won the limbo dancing at the barbeque on a beach party in the Indian Ocean in my 60's. something else for B to want photos ofHow's the chilblane Bluey? You used to be able to get chilblane cream that was great stuff but it's probably been withdrawn on health and safety grounds now.Lovely photo Dusty. Love an inquisitive cat. This morning I got up early to deliver the car for it's mot to be told 'all the mechanics are off sick' so it can't be fixed for a few days...........Then a call for my first visit with a doctor in 4yrs was cancelled because they're off sick.Funny how this sickness comes around when school Christmas concerts come around. So I broke open the Christmas liqueuer chocolates.Just got a call from the garage - passed and fixed-ish for way less than I thought. So must go via the shops and get him some chocolate biscuits.Got a call from the doctors and I'm seeing a locum on Friday. Not a lot of help as I need someone to know me all round but looks like it's DIY maybe with a bit of help.So 2 down, one to go. Dentist tomorrow.Back to the garden. I've celebratorily stuck gold sparkly birds to the tree out front. Lights and reindeer all in place. Can't bring the Christmas tree in as it's all wet.So Wednesday it is then Dusty.Warmish at 8c after recent weather, very wet but light rain so that's ok.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Fingers crossed for your bins Farway. Maybe they’ll be full of Christmas spirit and actually do their job. Or maybe they’ll be too full of Christmas spirit to see them clearly
I’m an avid reader but that many books in a year would feel like chore to me Arb. I’d need paying well to get through them that fast… Reading multiple books at will is one of the joys of my life, it really is. Hope there’s nothing actually wrong with your knee and you’ve just slept wrong 🤞🏻If you don’t fancy doing my soup taff, get a friend to do it and go round for a bowl. It’s lovely, you can’t taste the beans but they add a nice thickness and flavour to it (from the sugar and spices and whatever all else is in them). Aye aren’t the cams brilliant? Bit addictive though, cycling through them to see what’s occurring.I’ll forgo the photos if you give us the story 2p :nodding: Maybe having a locum rather than your own doc will be a good thing. That’s what happened with Broken Bummed Karen - the locum started from scratch rather than just continuing on with whatever the last doc said, and it sorted her out. And woohoo for your car!
Oh and the chilblain’s while sore. I was saying to Cissie about it last night and she told me off. Apparently you’re meant to keep them warm and what was stopping me wearing wool gloves all day? But it throbs and hurts when it gets warm… Aye that’s cos they’re HEALING! You’ve got to put up with it til it’s gone and you can thank me later. God I do love herI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -

If I start falling apart now before I'm, even 40 then I'll have nowhere to go when I'm officially 'old'The cat's mine, but I'll admit now the photo's my DD's.We only have tortie cats, because they're mad. Your youngsters will like frogs until they pick up a toad. Toads exude a foul tasting substance,
soon as wink.
I mashed both knees in different motorcycle accidents in my 20s and couldn't sit cross-legged for years, but I can now, so knees may repair themselves. At present, my right knee is still giving a bit of trouble, but it's improving. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with taking 2tbsp extra-virgin olive oil every day, which is the only 'different' thing I've done lately. My walking friend takes fish oil (yeuk!) and we both take supplements called Gl and Ch which I can't mention the full name of here 'cos it's bordering on medical advice.
Result on the car 2p. Hurrah!Your minimalist reindeer are great fun and better for not singing.
