Miserable, dark, cloudy, raining and only 6c!
Apart from Feb that's unheard of for here but times are changing.
Defo no gardening. Hope for enough dry to get some washing done as I'm running out of warm fleeces.
The marigold chat gave me an idea for pot marigolds in the side alley. No diseases, slugs don't like them, they can be trampled by workmen or me and skill come back.
And they bloom all year.
So i located a seed source and some fell in my pocket
Bluey, we used to have local free training courses and help with bookkeeping. I wonder if there is still something like that?
Ask around because they were good. Just enough help and info without being interfering.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

YoungBlueEyes said:Forgive me going completely off topic but I don’t know where to start with this. Where would I find info about the differences between doing your job as an employed person and doing it self-employed? Can anyone recommend some good plain speaking websites…?
Have always found good clear info on this website (for instance when HMRC website takes you round and round on a fruitless loop...(wasn't that one of those sweets they want to revive?)) (link to specific page on the topic): https://www.litrg.org.uk/tax-guides/employment/am-i-employed-self-employed-both-or-neither

Thanks muchly folks, I'll read all the links/vids in a min. I posted on the employment board and quickly got some good answers. I say this often but I'm pleased of this place cos folks are so helpful and knowledgeable when stuff happens.
Those lights are pretty Dusty but I prefer the naturally lighted one. You can't beat nature, you really can't
Drunken elves Farway - depending how my day was going I might pay good money to go see thatGood news about DGD, those are actual famous people. Fingers crossed for the chainsaw exam.
We started our fence with pots of paint and brushes, quickly went and bought a sprayer thing. Himself got the whole thing coated twice in the time it took to do one panel with a brush. Well worth it, quicker and neater and easier all round. Even quicker and easier if your gardener can do it Arb.
I hope your seeds are English marigolds 2p, remember the pic of my French ones....
No gardening today after all. Despite assurances it would be dry all day it's quietly drizzling away out there. Seems about right cos it's all going wrong here at Shawshank Patch. Himself is possibly looking at some ....interesting times... at work, and we lost MiL on Tuesday. And I stabbed myself in the palm with a paring knife last night while peeling parsnips so I'm cack-handed. Never rains but it pours.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Sorry to read of your triple woes, Bluey. At least the hand will soon mend. You know what happens when the going gets tough and I'm sure you will.
As I hinted yesterday, I tell my youngest to be wary of 'interesting times,' but does she listen?
She does have broad-ranging skills, but nothing like Farway's DGD with her flower arranging and chainsawing.
Could sure be 'interesting times,' combining those!
Yes, the lights are pretty, and I think it would be great taking the grandchildren to see them near Christmastime. Trouble is, from experience, it's likely to be rammed and you'll end up in a long crocodile, and that's after queuing to get in and finding a parking space. Of course, the kids won't notice or care about any of that, and there'd probably be few drunken elves, especially at the restaurant prices.I have a sneaky feeling that one might get a short show by attending late on a cloudy December afternoon.
After all, they'd switched some of them on by 3pm last week. Mrs Dusty and I are going to visit tomorrow, if it's dry. We need a bit of distraction relaxation.
It brightened-up here an hour or so ago, sun came out and I counted the sheep. Then, more cloud and huge spots of rain again.Car said 5c

Just wrapping up work to head into town for my second jab of the week. I'm heading in a little early so I can have a wander around - hopefully not buying a lot... but maybe something will fall into my bag or I'll see something worth taking a snapshot of
Forecast is dry for at least the next few hours - rain due overnight. Generally I'd like dry days and wet nights, but it's not giving the ground any chance to dry out at all.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.2 -
Aww Bluey sorry to hear that. No gardening for you till it heals.I did similar once with my prized new supersharp knife. I ended up in a&e and the knife binned.Good luck Abs! My Grandmother always used to say 'did you treat yourself to something' when nasty stuff happened.........I still stand by that

Thanks Dusty. Please be careful with paring knives folks, stabbing yourself in your mount of venus is Not Wise. I slathered in with alcohol gel, waited for it to dry, then coated it with superglue. This is not medical advice
Good job I'm not a follower of palmistry, cos I might have banjaxed my whole financial/romantic future in one swoop ha haa!
MiL was ready to go imo, but it hasn't stopped himself's younger sister talking about a neglect case and lawyers etc. We'll see what transpires (hopefully nothing for that way madness lies).
Thanks Farway and Less, 2 lots of helpful info there. I'm more aware of the possibles now so I'll see that himself thinks when he gets home tonight.
Good luck on your excursion ArbI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
Nothing much exciting about - interesting that at the vax centre there was no queue and I actually got seen a good half hour early (which somewhat put paid to my sneaky shopping plans). Don't know if that means they're organising things better or less demand/uptake (or maybe this time of day/week just isn't as popular).
Meant I could get a slightly earlier train home - so back before dark - but still had time to go the long way so my exercise was done for the week
It's a bit sparse re plant life, only a few very small flowers, but spotting them did make me smile, so worth itOne I know is a lavender (it's one of mine!); one I think is a hebe of some variety; and the other... I want to say honeysuckle...? Beautiful flowers and foliage on an otherwise quite grey walk.
Edit: I'm sorry, I didn't really read the threads when I was heading out earlier and just read your troubles YBEs. I hope the old adage of threes has some truth to it and that's you done with the bad stuff for a while. Hope you have a chance to do something good over the coming weekend for you and OH.

LessImpecunious said:. In the past I would have advised that it's best to stick to the "Latin" names to avoid confusion, but those are such a state of turmoil at the moment (due to developments in taxonomy) that often those names have changed as well!I went to Jekkas herb farm this year for an open day and listened to the talks etc and she was very very miffed that the official name of rosemary chagned from Rosmarinus officinalis to Salvia rosmarinus. Most miffed.Tafway, I am envious of your gd...I wish I knew which end of chainsaw to swing properly. And I would have done fan girl vlushing and embarassment if I had to talk to either of those two.2p, Slugs bloody love my marigolds...I don't know what they're doing differnetly, And they'e the French kind, really smelly...Love them.Arb, I used one of those quid spray bottles with fence paint and just brushed any blobby bits, was a lot faster than just brushing.condolences ybl...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6
