Cricket burger would surely be up there with all the other highly processed foods they tell us not to eat?. Then, next minute, little Billy is telling us his artificial meat is the way to go. Apparently it doesn't fart or belch. Choose your poison, I guess.

'Sleeper' had me rolling on the floor in hysterics when I first saw it. Very low budget, but some parts were so bang-on they're scary now.

OT: We have rain, but as the late Mike Yarwood would have said, “not a lot.” The predicted thunderstorm never arrived, though it did 'somewhere' in Cornwall, where DD went when the camper van threw a wobbly and then a ferret had to be PTS. Not the one in the photo, I'd add. He's v. young.  They'll set off again on Monday, but NC 500 is out now for this year.

Wind currently from the north seems to be going through all points of the compass, but may hit westerly by afternoon, in which case we can clear some brash from tree cutting etc. Arrggh! Tree cutting is due to start again in about 2 months! I can't keep up!

Nice temperature here this morning, 17 but misty and damp with it and there's not a breath of air out there. But it's cool at least. Hot again yesterday, and nobody seemed able to predict the thunderstorms. They were all (sobers/drunkards/ventusky) showing that a storm was on top of us but we never got a drop of rain or a clap of thunder. I was sat outside talking to my aunt last night and there was silent lightening in the distance but that was hours after it'd meant to have passed and gone out to sea. They had big thunderous crackling storms and torrential rain over there though, properly good my cousin said (she loves storms too). So at least one of us got something  

I'm not into hornets, I've plenty of those of my own. Well I think they're hornets. They're eating the berries that are ripening on the godawful 'american' ivy that covers lovely neighbour's fence. I've snipped off the ones on my side nearest the house cos I don't want them coming in my kitchen windows! 

Sorry to hear of PTS ferret Dusty. Is DD/gc's alright? Will they be getting a replacement? 

If I remember rightly the meeeja made a lot of effort selecting the 'right' sort of people to feature in their break-in-to-fit-a-leccy-meter stories. From memory (can't quote a source but it was poss the energy board on here...) it's truly a last resort to do that, and it takes a court warrant. It was people who'd stopped paying their bill and running up a huge debt, or were bypassing it and using huge amounts. It takes a year(?) before the companies can ask the court for a warrant, then it any means possible to ...err... establish the safety of their equipment. Which is fair enough like. Mind I haven't seen this latest installment that yous are talking about, so that might not be the same thing! 

OT cant decide whether to put a wash on or not. It might be dry 'til 2300 or rain on and off from 1400 or desperate heavy showers throughout the day. Or not. No real wind out there, that's one thing they all agree on. And cooler than yesterday too, but not as cool as tomorrow (can't wait! )

Oh and how did your pears work out Farway....?

Ferret was unwell for some weeks. They're undemanding, but not generally long-lived, so DD has made the decision  several times. A new ferret has been on order for a while.

The meter stuff isn't the same thing. The Bill proposes giving the Secretary of State the power to legislate and force install smart meters, even on those who don't want them and are in credit. Note that it gives the SofS the power to make that law; it isn't the law, even if passed. Some people think that if smart meters become universal, the power companies/government may use them to regulate demand, or even punish individual 'bad' behaviour. I don't feel able to say any more than that.

It's a bit of a nothing day here, with modest sunshine predicted, moderate temperatures (good!) and light winds. I may push us back a little from net zero. Sorry!

Dull but warm start, sun is just starting to creep out now, another hot day and I may have hay fever, at least my eyes are itchy, so it's my assumption

There are a lot of nasty things hidden in the Energy Bill, the sort of "it won't affect you" type, until it does affect you and it's too late

OT, I see EU unelected boss is calling for UN to have digital ID on everyone, just in case we get lurgy again, then they can issue lurgy passports [or not]. No comment

Gardening, jobs for this week, I noticed that my fruit trees, can I upgrade to "orchard"? Need another spot of pruning where the summer pruning I did the other week has fresh growth, I only need to cut back to first leaf, all soft growth but sooner it's done the better

I only have two apples left to pick now, both on Elstar, and that is my crop over with this year

Heard yet again on Farming Today R4 this morning that UK fruit growers are not planting more trees, not being paid enough by SMs yet again, just like the eggs last year and subsequent egg shortage

I think those of use with fruit tree[s] will be very glad in years to come, and anyone thinking about it, now is a good time to really give it some hard thought

Just fine, here is my huge crop of Beurre Alexandre Lucas pears and the sole Pinova apple

Pear does not look ripe despite them coming away from tree easily, should be yellowy with red blushes. Probably yet another one of my mislabelled ones.

They may not look much, but neither variety is available in shops, so something money cannot buy & hence priceless

No idea what they taste like, of course, the apple is allegedly a cross between Golden D & Cox, with my luck it will be the bad bits of each

Morning all, just a quick one between emailing the builder, paying the bill? removing window seals, painting bits of artex between curtain rails while the curtains and blinds are washed etc etc and waiting for an answer to my question on the diy forum.

Stepped into the garden and started planning jobs when I realised there was no time

Still reading between jobs and making notes.

I prefer gardening but perhaps that's why my house needs attention.

Weather - hot and sweaty in the past few days but 18c and cloudy this morning which feels very cool.

Had to chuckle, on the beach last night people all got out their phones to see what the weather would be today re swim.

Each had something different
