wort said:Dusty I’ve never had crayfish but would be up for trying them, but not the winkles . Hope you get a good result soon.lovely dahlias there Farway. I haven’t a lot flowering at the moment lots of lush greenery but only white anemones,,clematis ,hydrangeas and weiglias .I didn't get the crayfish either.
DD took them up-country with her! She did local research, and then stopped off to catch them on her way home to the Midlands.
The anemones, weigela, clematis etc sound all good to me. It's having plenty of something at this end of summer that matters. We have a 'result' from the planners this morning. Today was the last day by law they could send it validly, so I wonder what makes me think they aren't keen to be helpful! It's a qualified 'Yes,' though the reasons for the qualification aren't clear, so I need to get some reading in and tackle them. No worries. These things are sent to test us.

Back from minor medical bits, routine stuff and now fully topped up with supply of NHS sweeties to keep blood pumping & breath puffingScorchio already, luckily a bit of a breeze to helpLovely dahlia there Dusty, I'm tempted to have a bash at trying to cross pollinate some of mine and see what I get, I fancy trying yellow & red mixedDustyevsky said:Lots of similarities with Farway's, but it's the little variations which make random breeding interesting.

Some of my Champion apples are ripe, picked some yesterday and will try for more later this afternoon. They do keep & improve once picked, which is goodKnocked over a bottle of liquid fertiliser, which of course has leaked out. Luckily it was nearly empty so not a huge loss, just a mess to clear up
While mooching for apples yesterday, spotted the weather has really confused some plant clocksBlackberry & honeysuckleEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5 -
Crayfish - that's the word my brain refused to provide. They do look yummy though eh. Cracked open, bit of melted herby butter, some fresh brown bread, delish
I can't believe all the gardening yous are doing, makes me hot just thinking about it! It's too hoo hot here for me now, I watered last night and that's all the gardening I'm managing cos it's pure melting. Same for the next few days tooHimself is whack-a-plating (or however you spell it) and I could just have a heart attack even looking at it! It's cracking along though, thank god.
Good news on your planning thing Dusty, hopefully your research will shed light on any remaining dark cornersIt sure taken long enough, but you seem to be just about at the end now? :fingerscrossed:
I got a pic of a pretty flower earlier. It's a crocosmia/cosmia something? (stoopid brain). Lovely neighbour gave it to me because she's lovely. It was only gonna be a little thing she said, so I planted it at the front and now it's a few feet tall. Naturally. The coleopsis (?) is behind it, which was meant to get quite tall and spread happily but is only little. Naturally.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Also it’s the wrong colour, apparently. It’s meant to be white.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5

We are still getting blackberry blossom, Farway. I was supposed to be collecting more brambles this morning, but it was just too warm.
Is that Cosmos, YBE?? Pretty, even if it was supposed to be white'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -
If you told me that was a silk flower, I'd laugh at how the person who made it hadn't seen a real flower before - it looks like one giant crimped petal
(Good job no one ever told the flower
)

Cosmos, that could be it! Aye it's a queer thing, no fragrance and the wrong colour and just one all-the-way-round petal. I'm quite fond of it already and it only bloomed this morning.
So you've still more brambles to come Farway? And I can almost smell that honeysuckle

Yep, cosmos, hate to brag, but we have white ones, self seeded, at my volunteer place. I sowed them last year & they were a dead loss in all the heat, but obviously a few must have seeded. If you get a border full, or large clump, they are a joy, all feathery green with those flowers, very cottage gardeny.I do have more blackberries to come, not a crumbles worth but a taster now & thenOne of the white cosmos in 2022

Ooh it does look good in white
So is that the pay-off then - the right colour with lots of petals, or the wrong colour and one wrap-around petal?
Edit I hope it does self seed all over the place, I could stick a lot of them I reckonI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
I've never been lucky with Cosmos. So pretty and a joy when you get a free oneI'll stick some seeds in early this year and ignore what it says on the packet. That usually works. So when we had the Grannys Bonnet seeds on offer I bet you thought I was being a spoil-sport not asking for any but here's why.I sort of have 50 or so just in this one spot. So for a small garden that's plenty. And am I the first on the germination front? How's it all going? The dead twig on the bottom right was my Lemon Thyme. Seems there is a catterpillar or somesuch as 3 out of 4 were affected.3 are fine but the 4th is a lost cause. I'm so fed up of renewing them each year. Never used to have to.Bluey, it looks like a Cosmos but it's petals are all joined together.Save the seed quick as you may be onto a fortune! Ah, don't come true from seed. How do you get cuttings from such a fragile plant?
