Today has been a bit of a wet, cold and miserable day - so quite traditional for a bank holiday.

I was hoping the squash flowers would open today, but it won't be much longer I think; they have a yellow tint to the tips of the bud that I noted on the male before it opened.

Nothing much more of note to say about the garden other than I'm considering getting a quote to replace the fence out front... it's been a couple of months now waiting for the council to send someone out and it's just a bit of a mess as it stands. My neighbour won't pay towards the replacement (we had a quite reasonable conversation and as they pay rent they - understandably - view it as the council's job to pay their half), but if I do it at least I'll know it's something to my taste and done before spring!

The garden waste wheelie bin is full & awaiting collection now so couldn't get any more in, but I did have just enough room to get in the Devon sourced red cherry toms :) now succumbed to blight :'(
Nice to hear the Yellow Balcony did well, mine are still going in the conservatory but now getting straggly and will be removed soon
I hope you got some sweet cherry toms before they succumbed. It looks like the Balcony Yellows will go on for at least another month. They really are chunky and healthy plants, needing minimal support and they've not gone straggly at all. :)
I'm not saying much about meeja here. I can't watch most mainstream TV now. Mrs Dusty's even dumped her candy floss shows.  About 3.5 years ago, social and behavioural plans failed to work on us and we had to go off-script. We never looked back. If that sounds smug, it's not meant to. Although we're red-pilled enough to know what's not right, knowing the correct way forward is much harder. There are many false profits!

"False profits" - very good  I'm annoyed I had to buy a tv licence, considering how little we watch at all. And I wish it was easier to watch tv differently so we could legitimately not pay, but they've made it so hard to do. Naturally. Actually I'd not buy one on principle - the way they've handled some of their umm ...internal doings..... was bladdy wrong and I'd dump it just for those reasons. But while I'm like that, himself isn't.

Anyway. If you're only wanting to watch lovely neighbour's tomato'y nephew and wife, they're at the end after the weather. 10 mins from the end I think it was. Wife was the one with a baby strapped to her, nephew was the tall dark-haired bearded fellah on the till. I didn't realise that was the set-up, it's a really good idea. Especially if plenty more people do it :)

I didn't watch Beechgrove but I get it on catchup. A system to work out if blight is coming would be good. I remember when I was looking up about blight there was a website that kept track of it and you could report you've got it in your area, which I thought was rather good. BlightSpy maybe?

Arb good luck with your fences.  At least if you buy them yourself you can get exactly what you want. As long as the council don't try claiming they own half :o

I'll listen to that link later 2p while I'm doing domestic nonsense. I do like Brian Cox. And the other Brian Cox too actually. And as for having gin in my tonic Farway, that wouldn't have been wise while we were grafting. If I drink himself wants one and he can't take his drink. I can suck gin down like it's mammy's milk, whiskey too. But a couple of halves of lager and I'm a sweating gibbering sicky mess. I don't know how that works but there you are.

OT the sunrises and sunsets are getting better, but still nothing pic worthy. It was almost cold last night, but then we'd had showers in the evening so that takes the heat off. I did get a pic of some snails that leapt to their death from lovely neighbour's dreadful ivy while we were working. They must have rubber shells cos there's not a mark on them and they've quite pretty markings too  .

Snails. I put them on a leaf to sit them in the sun. The one on the left is the same snail in both pics, he was quite happy where he was. Or maybe he was shell-shocked….

I'm not sure about the ID of those smaller snails, Bluey, but they're a darn sight tougher than the standard variety. There are quite a few snails in this wildlife blog I found recently, which has loads of good photos and a well-paced commentary. It's easy to dip in and out of, and it won't make you feel bad about your garden, either! :D The butterfly section is especially useful as a reference, too.

I'll try to look at the tomato people on iplayer later. Too much going on here with the GC, who are not being noticeably D! :s
Calm and dull start here, but not cold; a good day to get the jackhammer out and worry the neighbours! >:) I'm demolishing the thresholds at each end of the old polytunnel site and wishing I'd not been quite so diligent with the concrete! The sleepers I embedded are still good after 13 years, so they'll get a coat of the banned stuff and go back again in the new one. ;)

Your nice, trustworthy, Mr JVT....Heard he had a close encounter of a monetary kind with a revolving door. ;)

  • The snails must be made of proper tuff stuff - they fell about 6 ft from the top of the ivy covered fence down on to hardcore. Good luck to them ha haa!

Awww JVT is erm fiscally flexible? I always rather liked him. I took notice of the goggly eyed one too (Chris …something?) I liked them both a wee bit more when they gave up being BoJo’s puppets.

Maybe they’re right. Ignorance is bliss.
