Starting off lovely sunny morning
more October than August though.
Even the trees are turning colour but they did this with the dry last year then came good after a good dousing.
Poppy it's been dry for most of 3mts now and you can't keep watering. At least the veg is alive and healthy so I'll just water with soluble feed occasionally and hope for a warm autumn.
Even the heather on the moor is a dull colour and late blooming.
What's really annoying is the cold and grey and stiff wind so not even beach weather!
No gardening planned for today but I've been out and looked at all the jobs that need doing.
Does that count?I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Another photo from Sunday's garden.
I've looked at various other hellebores but can't see anything that should flower at this time of year with these leaves. Or is it orientalis thrown by the strange season? Any thoughts?
It is greenish white rather than pure white. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing5 -
Oh dear YBE, so sorry it turned out to be blight, not much can be done to prevent really, the spores come on the wind, normally from the West 'cos that is the way the wind blows in UK. Even if you stopped it, one of the neighbours would have it, so spores would come alongSome years are better than others, this year was wet at the wrong timeBe very careful about using them for chutney, they can be tainted despite looking good, and will impart a yucky taste, hate for you to spend hours making chutney and then have a big letdown at ChristmasIf you are tempted, taste them as you prepare themThey get hard brown shoulders, the start is looking like the one you say was not ripening properly. They often just drop off the truss despite looking fineSome of the ones I bought in to ripen have since "come out" and shown their Blighty credentialsSunny day ahead, maybe even be dry enough for me to get on and complete my Blight patrol and check the blackberries over, need to pick before they go mouldy in the dampI'm expecting most of my toms to now be blight ridden, Sungold was the latest victimMay have another fig later, looks ripe but been too wet to get out & checkEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5

Very pretty flower Ras no ideas to what it is though.
managed to miss the rain last night, and possibly may have stayed for 1 too many. But it’s not a regular thing.
looking showery so far today, though the forcast is no rain sunny intervals! There’s been a turnaround for the forcast for the rest of the week too, showing dry up to Friday then a whole week of rain !
BIL was going to come around Friday to help put up an arch in the garden , which is sods law.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.4 -
Just popped back with pic of blighted tomatoes, just in case YBE needs a clueI don't think anyone would consider these wholesome but just in caseEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4

Looks like I'm about to be part of the 'blight' club.My San Mazano (which only managed two unripe toms anyway) is getting black edged leaves. I think that's coming out.I'll prune back on the leaves of the nearby big one that was an experiment as that's not looking good generally. Hard to tell if it's just feed and lack of water that is making them fail. The GD cherry ones seem healthy so far.The one that's growing well I'm going to let the lead shoot do what it likes and hopefully end up with a triffid and more tomatoes. The raspberries have some sort of bug in the new leaves. The Bramley apples have codling moth despite my care with any incoming apples and the Cox is taking so long to ripen in this weather the birds are having a go. Even they left after a couple of bites.Think it's time to get my weak and still potted broccoli in the space in hope I get a glut of thatClouded over now and cool with the stiff breeze.

Thanks everyone for being kind and patient and knowledgeable about my blightedness. I really do appreciate this thread 👏🏻😃
That’s very helpful Farway, thank you. Saves me asking where the shoulder is! Yep a good few of mine look like that, more than half really. I’m thinking I might just bin the lot. I don’t have many that are ‘fine’ and a few that are ‘maybes’. Most are blighted I think. I’ve still the growbag ones so all’s not lost (so far). And I’ve got all the bits for chutney so I can still do that.
Sorry you’ve joined us 2p, it’s not a nice club to be in.Oh and Aldi have Roses lime and lemon+lime marmalade for £1.49. Down the middle, not on the shelf. You hung over then wort?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Your pic looks like my one RAS. It’s a lovely pale limey creamy green sort of colour and is therefore called Pink Beauty.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4

Cox is renowned for late, it's what it does.Coddling moths also fly, little bu66ers. You can buy pherome traps but given the cost I don't, I just cut out the manky moth bits when cooking. The moth maggots are not normally in every apple, so plenty to go roundPicked some runners for dinner, and even after all the rain I needed to water some of the pots, unbelievableYoungBlueEyes said:Thanks everyone for being kind and patient and knowledgeable about my blightedness.
