wort said:been chucking down all day, just home from work and due out for a meal, typical choose a day when I have no clue what to wear, it still feels quite warm, but might need wellies !!No one think it odd if you go for a pub meal here in wellies. It'll just look like you didn't have time to change out of uniform!I took a photo of that honeysuckle because it looked so presentable, but it was half a mile from the nearest garden. This one also looks 'garden-ish,' but I once introduced it as a border plant, then wished I hadn't!
The likeness to other well-behaved ones makes its 'family' an easy guess.

Dusty - I love that pouty bottom lip.
Just gets better as the flower head matures as it goes from looking down it's nose at you to sulking you're ignoring itI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.3 -
I was one of those children who lived breathed and loved horses. I love heavy horses, what a beautiful pic.Sorry YBL, definitely blight and personally, I wouldn't try and ripen the fruit, I'd use it for a green chutney or something, the spores can send them rotten in a blink and you'll miss it fashion.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

I’ve read through the rhs link Arb, I have some of everything in those pictures
It’s properly pouring down here now so I’ll snip off the toms and bring them in then see about sorting/binning the plants tomorrow.
Please god don’t let me lose the lotI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -

Don't be disheartened Bluey, it's not been a good or easy year for anyone I suspect.Remember my toms still haven't grown, nor the green veg, no raspberries, pests and diseases seem rife.Just picked the rest of the plums off the tree. It's still small and it was a good crop but all ripened at once be cause of the weather.I'm keeping an eye on my first crop of eating apples. They don't look ripe but with it still being dry I think they will fall anyway. Again all growing and ripening at once. No sun and no rain they aren't going to be the best for flavour but still, first crop I'm a proud parent.Massive flesh coloured slug on my gravel this morning as in 3"..... yuuuuck......sent it flying over the fence via a trowel and just hoped I got my aim right an it didn't drop on meRained seemingly decently last night and into this morning. Very windy, and dense cloud. Soil still not wet.A neighbour returned from a trip out and asked 'did you have any rain here' - 'no' - 'Oh bad luck'Now that's a phrase I never thought to hear!Outside a village garden.............
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

We were all posting about the same time yesterday, not often that happens!
I like your horse pics RAS, the contrasting coats look very tactile eh
Thanks for the link Arb, I'll be getting a few extra ingredients when I'm out this morning then. I've got the 'Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe' book and I'm sure I remember it's one of the recipes in there. I'll have to dig it out. Or there's maybe an interesting something in my new old cookbook....
I've snipped off all the toms, keeping each plants' separate. My growbag ones look healthy so I may get a few ripe ones yet :fingerscrossed: Do I need to go buy Jeyes FLuid or can I bleach everything out? I don't want to be spreading it round unknowinglyTrust me to have a go at growing things in a bad year ha haa! No rasps here either now I think about it... Nor apples or pears but I'm a long way off that I think.
I like your scarecrow pic 2p. I was wondering where me hat wentSlugs galore here some nights. You'd think a gravel pit would be an obstacle but it sure doesn't stop them.
Well St Fiacre has taken pity on me, finally, and sent a decent sunrise. It wasn't a belter but it was a improvement on what there has beenSo maybe that's to even out the blighty toms, dearth of rasps, and suicidal lettuces. And whatever those pretty purpley things were that I planted that died anyway so now their name doesn't matter
It has the look of a nice day here so my washer's on and nearly done with another load sat waiting
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
You don't have to buy anything or bleach anything. The spores come from a variety of places and humidity or rain and a warm temperature make them active. You can't bleach into oblivion unfortunately. Which is not to say you can't if you want to, just that it isn't going to guarantee it won't appear again.I too have a hopeful wash on, and a mountain of pans to clean, blech...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi4

I'll bleach out the tubs for peace of mind then. That link said to give everything a good wash with Jeyes to kill resting (?) spores, including any equipment that touched the blight in case of spreading infection.
Oh I don't mind cleaning pans - swop ya!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
Oh no, I'm really sorry to read you have blight, YBE - after all your hard work and excitement at growing things for the first time
I hope you still get some edible toms from the growbag ones and can make something with the others. Fingers firmly crossed for you.
Twopenny, I'm sorry if this sounds clueless, but is every garden where you live having the same problems as you with the lack of rain?? Is there anything you can do to the soil so it retains any rain that you do have, or any watering that you do?? Like I said, Mrs Clueless here as we don't usually suffer from lack of rain in Scotland (although we did in June this year)...
It turned into a beautiful day yesterday, with an equally beautiful orange sunset. Today is looking cloudy so far, with sun promised for later in the day.'A watched potato will never chit'...3
