It's too early to say how Covid has affected suicides and mental health generally BC, but from what we know from past periods of economic gloom, the effects won't be good. We do have data for the number of medical scans completed this year, and that's down by about 5 million, so a lot of potential trouble not being dealt with and stored-up for the future.
On a brighter note, we shall be into something colder and drier after today, with some sunshine for those brisk walks over Christmas. B)

If any of you need cheering-up, here's one American parent who's used school closure and lockdown creatively with his brood:

  • Lol, it's how I imagine Jack Black would be with his kids!  Ty for sharing, big grin here 😁

And another wet day here but looking brighter :)
I have Santa + small Elf  [son + Gdaughter] popping by later for a socially distanced hand over of pressies to Granddad, just in time I suspect because given the news this morning about tier changes I reckon it's a odds on I'll be in T4 by Boxing Day because I am surrounded by T4 areas which start at the end of my road, in fact I break the rules if I go out because it is impossible for me to exit from my road without entering T4

One more garden task I missed and to be done if weather improves is remove the never going to ripen figs
Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens

Happy New Year! Yes, the longest day has passed and the new year starts as the sun will now get higher in the sky pdq making days brighter. Even if it's still wet and cold we should begin to get rid of the dark.

Glad to hear of someone else that recognises the solar seasons rather than the strange versions that the press and weather-gurus always quote. Really gets me going when I read on 21st June that it is the "first day of summer" or on the 22nd December that it's the "first day of winter"...how can summer start on mid-summers day?

I have logistical issues. :#  My face is sore and swollen after Monday's failed root canal job and I think it may be infected, so I need antibiotics. :s However, I also want to get Dearly Beloved's Christmas presents which are 22 miles away and deliver all the local cards...to say nothing of hoovering....and I don't like driving in the dark these days. :'(
Time to put my big boy pants on!

Oh D, that's awful ☹😟 , i can hear your emotion coming over the airwaves 😕
Is there no-one else you could get to do those errands - or leave it til tomorrow ..... not ideal, that, i know 😕
If i were closer i'd do it for you.

I've sunk 3 Sumatriptan tablets, this morning, and feeling quite human now, the longer i'm on them the longer they take to work - but at least they do.
  • Gosh both, hope you both feel better soon x

I'm OK now I've picked up the prescription, had it made up, so I feel covered over Christmas if I really need it, like I did last time. :) I'm not so happy with the £500 bill that's going to come my way from the specialist who will sort things out mid-January though! :s
Cards are delivered, apart from one where I couldn't get through, due to a bus and a lorry stuck together trying to pass in the village! :o I know these things can take up to half an hour to sort out when they happen. It's daft.
Anyway, I'm hoovering as the weather is so awful now. I will go out early tomorrow instead. Rivers are rising fast.....
Oh, and no one knows where the Christmas bird is, but we either have to collect it from the middle of nowhere, or Exeter! :/
Edit: We and bird are apparently supposed to rendezvous at a local market tomorrow, so that's good news, especially as it's on my way to where I have to go anyway, so things are working out despite fairly chaotic Devon planning! :D
