Those photos make me chuckle.
It's pretty much what people have been trying to get rid of for decades. Now it's a thingalways loved little areas like that.
Well it's one of'those' days. Overslept, 2lots of bin lorries and machines going behind the house and neighbour mowing the lawn.
Places to visit closed on Monday so went out to water the garden and de blackfly the beans...how do they appear overnight?
Thought I'd take my neighbour to Tarr Steps for a walk. She's never been.
And out of nowhere, rain!
Mind no more than a dusting.
Bluey, I'm only eating light so no washing up water to speak of. I have tried that on established plants in soil like raspberries. It's ok. They aren't keen especially when it's very dry on their roots.
Now if it's not going to rain I hope it dries out by this evening so I can prune, mow and feed. Got a feeling today is going to be an odd one.
Looking forward to the barrow ponds.
Defo going to have to try grow figs if I can find somewhere to put them. Farways tales make me dream of fig cake.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I knew I had a photo somewhere that featured rock crevices, alpine-type terraces and a fig....so here it is.
Garden near here, sometimes open under NGS:

Farways tales make me dream of fig cake.Dreaming is about as far as it goes with my figs, never enough for cake etc, but oh so scrumptious right off the tree in the sunshineIt amazes me, I see figs in some large gardens, just dripping with them, but mine never seem to have oodles of them. If I had room I'd plant it in the ground, in my walled garden wot I bought when my Premium Bond came inI have however just picked oodles of goosegogs, top N tailing not yet done, but I think it's Fool time tomorrowDusty, I think you win today's photo prize, three subjects in one

.Edit: I have a tomato turning ....
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's 'Moskvich.'

Ah fig cake isn't a cake..
It's the figs, almonds, sesame seeds and honey (brandy if wished) squeezed into a flat shape.
Lasts forever, can be carried as a snack, no cooking involved.
Pan de Higo.

In spain they just squidge the figs with whatever you fancy. Mine was just chopped figs with almonds, maybe a bit of honey to stick it together. Yummy

Funny how people can see different things in the same photo - I saw tropical in wort's pic, with shrieking birds and a crouched David Attenborough
I love the slate/crevice garden pics, I've not seen anything like that before. Aren't they striking! I particularly like your last photo Dusty, all that moss and a tiny pondIs that an espaliered (sp?) something on the wall?
I love fresh figs, on their own or with just a wee bit of cheese, and maybe a few crackers
No gardening to report, I've not done a thing. My 'Peace Lily' has 4 new flowers on it, which is nice.
Now that we've established that the wind machine works, could whoever's sat near the socket pull the plug please!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
Oh and Nick-3PO has had a makeover - his old self is still face down on the leaf, very securely attached it is too.

I'm relieved to see what looks like a 'proper' ladybird as I have them too. I'm seeing a strange assortment of ladybirds in the garden. My initial excitement has turned to cautious optimism... Still, there's not much we can do about it is there? I always feel like the garden starts taking control about now. Leaves getting raggy, , lots of dead heading to be done etc. Oh well that's gardening, and nature, for you
I agree with the 'wind' problem YBE. I've been trying to limit the damage by moving pots to shelter and tying back where possible. It's not the look I wanted though. The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
