Started cloudy and drizzly but not enough to wet more than exposed areas which dried almost immediately.
High winds and a glimmer of sun now.
Wow farway! Is that flower from the cutting? I have forsythia rooted in water but too dry even to pot it successfully. But that's an easy one.
How do you rooot your rose cuttings please?
Want to try it on my deceased neighbours rose which is a favourite of mine.
Her garden is growing massively. Problem for the buyers eventually but lovely for my view of billowing plants where it was previously sterile.
Not sure about gardening today.
High winds, hot and cold, wet and dry.....drinks with friends would be just the job Wort
Dusty I agree with what you say about length of flowering. My lavenders and roses are full of bees and insects for 2/3yr.
Bluey, that patio is going to be interesting. Maybe it could be something else if you don't agree

Sharing plants is always a good move Farway. Yesterday I was viewing my friend's mild garden with a particularly keen eye, mainly because there were around half a dozen subjects I'd lost last winter.
By next year, they'll be large enough to consider as divisions or cuttings.
Windy with variable cloud here, but it's another re-run of 'Back to the Hoover' for me.P.S. Missed it, but there were 7 Goldfinches on the feeder an hour ago!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity5 -

Her garden is growing massively. Problem for the buyers eventually but lovely for my view of billowing plants where it was previously sterile.Nothing special, not muck & magic. All I do is take whatever there is, I find the hardwood ones easier, but given the circumstances just go with what there is before it's in a skip. For my style, any ripe, woody but a bit bendy at the top, shoot, about a foot long, remove lower leaves and all but a couple from the top, remove any flowersEither poke about lower 9 inches into a pot with gritty soil, not mud. Or shady spot in garden, poke into the ground but mark where, or you'll "weed" them at some timeI take as many as I can get, sort of scatter gun, in hope that one or two will succeed, if all do then lots to give awayOnce in pot / ground, leave well alone at least until next Spring, no fiddling about or gentle tugging to check for rootsIf they've taken new leaves will appear, just leave them to get on with it, patience. If not take, just brown twigs resultLoads on YouTube, but this chap is always good and knows his stuff, Monty is on YT as well

Thanks Farway. I'll give it a go. Nowt to loose except some dignity.
I've not taken them long enough perhaps.
I'll use pots - and perhaps some in water (is that pointless) because I did have a hothouse supermarket rose grow roots. My only one and I didn't care for it at the time.
Dusty, your Rosebay wh. Why not use it? Often heard people say "isn't that lovely" in fact only a few days ago about a big patch in Devon. Maybe yours
With the number of people who also asked about the blue plant in my paving rather the ones i cultivated when I posted a photo then campanula would be another !

Rosebay Willow Herb: https://www.plant-lore.com/rosebay-willowherb/Edit : Although it's pretty, one reason for not wanting the above plant around is it's a host for fuchsia rust.Cold out there again tonight. Looks like it will be modest temperatures and precipitation in the south this coming week.

2P, good luck with any rose cuttings, I have not had any takers trying to root roses in water, so you are ahead there, if you have enough I'd try water as well, belt & braces, in fact it would be an interesting trial.Rosebay WH, we have it in the volunteer border, just turned up announced, but have let it grow because it is ideally suited to the poor, dry, parched soil there, impervious to people parking and walking on it and pretty. It would be hard to find something as useful to replace it, and we do not have fuchsias so rust not a problem eitherJobs for the day, not much but would like to tie in the Merton blackberry again, still growing so needs to be trained for 2024I've sprayed the conservatory toms for whitefly, keeping them in check so far, and squished the first appearance of blackfly on my runners, just a few advance scouts so far which if I can keep at it may avoid a plagueMy goosegogs are ripe & ready, sampled some yesterday, nice right off the bush, don't know the variety, possibly a Lidl special. I have trained it upright, sort of standard, but now it just droops but dripping with goosegogsI expect I'll pick them today or tomorrowThe big leaves, centre right, are my going rampant this year, Lakemont grape. No grapesBottom leaves are pear, no pearsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8

Yes I'll try both but I have a feeling rooting in water only works late spring, early summer.
Now I have to wait for the neighbour who never speaks to go out. The roe is coming over the fence right by her living room window. 3 of us were talking about getting a ladder up there for cuttings.
Yesterday I did more dead headingand put some of the brassicas in - with 2yrs of this summer dry no rain they .had to go in randomly and too close because I can't dig out more bed and everything is out of sync.
Lots of ants nests because the ground is dry and undisturbed. Large stones coming up to the top. I'm going to have to build a wall or use them as hardcore!
Cool this morning, thick cloud which has made the plants perk up from collapsed
Still no rain forcast.

Dibs on your ant stones/hardcore 2p!!
Roses - himself 'acquired' some from over the fence a few months ago (I can't remember exactly when, which isn't helpful). I watched a couple of ootoob vids to get going and have got a couple of goers. I cut straight across the bottoms of the 'acquired' sticks, and cut the tops on a slant so the rain can run off them. I snipped all the leaves and floppy top bits off them and sat them in a mug of water. None of them were happy about that. I ended up deciding to put them in pots because the water was only sitting there and getting stale. So, out of the water, fresh cuts to get rid of the slimey bottom bit, I made a few gentle slashes in the very lowest parts, dipped them in rooting powder then into pots of compost. I didn't water them in in case it washed the powder away down, I sat the whole thing in a dish of water. I did all the stalks even though some were already on the brink of deciding to die and some had died already anyway. The dead ones aren't any deader, and the living ones are showing good signs. I'll go get a pic. I didn't get many want-to-lives in return for my efforts though - I think out of a dozen I have 2 that'll make it. Unless in saying that I've just cursed them entirely!
Bladdy windy here and cool with it. Drunkards, sobers, they're all wrong. They keep saying it's v cloudy and about to stop raining and/or about to start raining. Well there's not a cloud up there....I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Rose sticks. One has good leaves on it, a couple have new little nobbles sprouted so 🤞🏻 The rest are brown top to bottom but I’m leaving them alone in case they change their minds…
