Farway said:Nice pic AR, what plant is it with the brown bit? I don't recognise it, but it's a tad close up for me. Probably nothing to worry about anyway. However, if the plant has loads of leaves, and it won't make the plant look lop sided, just remove that one to be on the safe sideGulp, nearly passed out at the price of the anti squirrel feeder, must be doubly annoying when it is a flopIt was booster jab this morning, so went and watered the volunteer pots while I was out and before my arm drops off
. The Californian poppy seedlings I transplanted seem to have settled in & are looking like they've taken now
Still hot & sunny with a cooling breeze here, and the LG lettuce sown last week is showing green shoots, mind you another, earlier sowing is still a "no show" I do wonder if they get scoffed even as they germinate? Here is one of my red pears, mislabelled, of course. The foliage is looking very healthy this year. And now it will probably die overnightThe

I reckon there'll be a queue for that Murphybear
His and hers sheds sounds perfect Eeny! (Are you listening Santa?) Himself is a messer too. Sometimes I stand and think 'yeah but, how have you actually done this?!
I've done no gardening other than watching my sunflower shrub grow - I had to bring it in to save it from the squirrels. I need to get my toms and rasps into their growbags really. They're tall and starting to flower, and I've had enough of moving the buckets round the garden so they keep in the sun ha haa! I've a lovely big nettle patch that's all but flowering, I hope they're pretty when they come out. Oh and poppies have appeared in the patch where previous owners had a trampoline. Turning into a right wildflower meadow
There's a new hole in the fence with the gravel up against it, so I'm no longer varmint-freeIt might only be a mouse but that's no use to me when I like all my doors and windows thrown open.... I'll be cross if it's the rats back.
Another lovely cool autumnal dawn here, thanks St FiacreNot a drop of rain though. The drunkards have given up on the alert thing, it's now just wall to wall scorchio. Weather app that's not the drunkards says we'll get <1mm of rain a week on Thursday....

Wall-to-wall mist here and the quietness that comes with it.I did something in the garden yesterday, but wasted half of it on another letter to the council which, in essence, said, "Your woman in torture and punishment enforcement has got our knickers in such a twist, we just want a way out now. We will even cross your greasy palms with silver if you tell us the secret code or hand-shake needed, so we can carry out our plans."Apart from that, I remember sowing some Mertonesis foxgloves and Water Forget-me-Nots; the latter intended to go in the stream for what is essentially a spring display. Right now, it's buried in long grasses, ferns, and valerian."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity2

YoungBlueEyes said:Oh Dusty, I thought yous were moving through the process..? What's torture and punishment woman's problem now?'Tis too complex to explain fully. She is definitely wrong about some stuff, but it's not good politics to argue with planners and 'win' in one context, if their discretion might be used against you in more important situations later. Planners and building inspectors love feeling useful and giving advice, so it's best to use that, even if there's a small fee involved, as in this case.Just occasionally, it may be worth arguing. For example, my BiL once hired a big digger to take out foundations, when a planning guy, alerted by the neighbour, arrived and 'advised' him to stop work. BiL told the enforcement guy to go forth and multiply because he knew he was in the right and the digger was costing him. However, although he was correct, BiL didn't find the council very helpful subsequently and he endured much hassle overall on his self-build.No new photos, weather related or otherwise, so here is one from the archives: good old Alchemilla, but erythropoda, not mollis..."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Two sheds works for us. Mine is only small (5x2'ft in old money) my own design. Like a wardrobe really, with shelves. The big stuff goes in his shed
The merchants we ordered from queried the measurements but it works great for me, and I can keep it tidy
Luckily OH is very handy and has built and adapted things to suit me for which I'm very grateful. (I'm only about 5'2 so often can't reach things)
Sorry to hear that 'Planning' is still being a problem Dusty. Have anyone noticed how many 'buildings' have appeared during the recent 'troubles' which I suspect didn't receive any type of permission? I don't suppose there'll be any scrutinising of them.
PS Like the Alchemilla, I didn't know that there were two types, very nice. The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

Sacrificing the battle to win the war… smart if you’ve the patience
I’m glad I was up and out early, the heat is making people fractious. They were definitely arsier on the roads on my way home than on my way there.I’ll have a go on himself’s phone when he gets home, have a look for sheds and greenhouses. He’s on facefook etc, in an effort to keep the spending downI oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.2 -
An old shed or bike shelter could be adapted. Think larder
(But make sure it's properly anchored, mine blew over during storm Ninio although it was fastened to the fence!
We've heard from a bee-keeping friend that even the bees are angry! They've had to be moved to a more isolated spot for a while ....???The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

YBE, could varmit be a young rat out on patrol? Very hard to tell. One of those times, a webcam would be handy to check what is coming & goingDusty, oh dear with the planners, Jeremy C referred to it as the Red Tape factory when he was making his farming programme, sums it up but hard to know where lines should be drawn, next thing you know someone famous in Whitehall builds an agricultural farm labourer's dwelling and then lives in it, no names, no pack drill hurrumphManaged to cover my strawberries, I used perforated plastic bags I had left over from buying bulbs, ideal hopefully, air flow but out of birdy eyesightEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2
