-taff said:`Got to disagree about the hawkweed, I like it, very pretty and good at covering ground in the odd bit.Yeah, but no, there's more than one sort. I think the one you mean is known as 'Fox & Cubs' and it is pretty...pretty successful too!I've had a bad trip, man! :*Took ages getting home from civilisation, thanks to thunderstorms not discernable in the town I visited, where t-shirt and daps were still appropriate dress. 10 miles further south, all hell was being let loose, with flash flooding and serious amounts of debris being washed across the roads. Not sure how deep the water was, but we had maybe 6 places where the swirling pools of surface water were 50 - 100m long.3 miles from home, a woman was waving her arms and indicating the main road was impassable, but as I was about eighth in the queue, I used local knowledge, turned around and took a side road. That worked for a mile or so, and then a lady motorcyclist who was parked-up stopped me, saying: “There's some plonker in a truck stuck at the bridge. You won't get through!”As 'truck' means a 4x4 pickup around here, I knew she was right. It turned out the arm-waving lady was wrong.
If one of those was trapped.....
I was in Dear Wife's automatic OAP wagon and still wearing my daps!
So, I snapped this (untweaked) photo of the 'little brook' which goes under that bridge, turned the car and returned to the main road.....
The main road was bad, but not impassible. Apparently we have a thunderstorm and flash flood warning until 22.00, but the worst is probably over now. Sure livened-up a trip to Sainsburys!

Bl00dy hell Dusty, that's some water eh?! Glad you got back safely. Did everyone else make it home alright? We did get a bit of a thunderstorm around 7pm, stair rod rain and a few crackles of lightening. Nothing really. Well I could've stood a lot more of it, I love a good storm!
I wonder if my mystery leaves will end up as hawkshead then. Time will tell. Jeez you need patience as a gardener eh.
I've got the dentist this morning. Woman has an uncanny knack of spotting problems before I even know they're there, but luckily for me she can fix them so I never know a thing about them. Isn't cash a wonderous thing. Well she's struck out this time for I'm keeping the economy going in ant powder and tom bags. I wonder if I'll notice any difference...?
Oh and I spotted a couple of coal tits yesterday so I had to buy another feeder for different food for them. Himself hasn't noticed it so it doesn't count
OT - sunny and mild here but humid with it.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -

The water was not so much of an issue for her as the big stones hidden under it in places, especially on a 4-mile section of the main road. There, the valley sides are very steep, so when there's intense rain, everything on the surface travels downwards fast, though the woodland keeps most of the underlying stuff stable. Landslides happen, though.DD's train got through OK. Usually, it's the first thing to fail. I saw my farmer friend in his truck heading north, so knowing he'd normally be seeing to his animals, it's a fair guess there was a tree down somewhere. He's part of a network of people who magically attend when trees fall over in the road.Had a reply from the council. It looks like we may be asked to seek planning, but reading between the lines, it looks 100% we'll get it.
Sleeping on that, it might be best. Nothing like approval from the planners for shutting people up!

Torrential rain most of yesterday, some flooding but nothing like Dustys!
On the up side how's the reservoir doing?
The forecast was for sunny spells. I'm convinced there's actually no one in the met office. They've just left a bunch of work experience kids in the room sticking pins randomly into a map.
Today was supposed to be this weeks sunny day, stll saying that but it's grey skies, it's been raining and every sign there's more coming so no gardening again!!!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Think I'll take the 4x4, though, if only for the potholes on that route!
Roadford Lake does look like it still needs topping up: https://www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/locations/roadford-lakeWimbleball looks OK:https://www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/locations/wimbleball-lake

We had rain, but I must be in a preferred spot, no lightning or hail, even though local Beeb news was full of photos of same. Sunny now but grot due laterSounds like everyone survived anyway, and goodish news ref planning DustyPoppy's late pepper must be catching, I have a Runner emerge this morning, been about six weeks, the rest seem to have rotted, but one is up at last. Too late, Its replacement was sown & are being planted out this weekend weather permittingYet again I failed to plant on the toms, as it's still too soggy outside to prep the pots for themWhat a difference a few miles along the coast make, here's one I took yesterday afternoon while Dusty was battling the elements, blue sky and my Judas Tree at its bestEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5

Seems your rain has headed up here today, dark sky fine wet stuff and sun at the same time!! You can keep the floods Dusty 🤪
Yesterday was glorious after a walk first thing decided to tackle the evergreen clematis that is holding up my pergola😳 covered in brown leaves it looked dreadful, I could have left it to see if it would resprout, but my eye kept being drawn to it , it took a few hours and much cursing at myself when I chopped pieces that looked dead but when I pulled them out were full of life at the other end.
Got a good bit of other tidying in and the green bin is out for the bin men today. Spent the last hour sitting with a cup of tea enjoying the fruits of my Labour and the sun.
lots of things sprouting up , and not sure if they are things I’ve planted or weeds ! So unless they are in a totally unwanted spot they are being given a chance. I may regret that !
had a moment of madness and took some cutting from lavender , then thought it’s probably the wrong time . My peppers haven’t popped up either and maybe going too.
Saw someone online using the handheld rechargeable clippers quite small and wonder if any of you have them? My hedge trimmer is a middle of Lidl buy and is heavy and corded I always worry about going through the wire.
Lovely pics as always, There are hundreds of the dandelion clock seeds on the breeze yesterday coming off the fields at the back now getting watered in! On the other thread someone is making dandelion honey 🍯 I hope they make sure it’s from a source that’s not been “weed” on.
Good luck with planning Dusty.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.2 -
So I’ve had me chops picked at/prodding/sandblasted. Once I mentioned I hoped she didn’t find any problems cos I’m short of pennies she announced my whole mouth was in fine form altogether. #ThisIsWhyI’mCynical 🤨
I’ve the opposite gameplan here wort. If I didn’t plant it there I’m hoying it out. I’ve only planted bulbs and actual plants so all the wee bits of stuff that appear overnight are given short shrift!I wonder if the drunkards are actually just a bot or some kind of algorithm malarkey… it’s lovely here now but all the apps tell me it’s drizzling and about to rain. There’s not a cloud up there 😎
Your Judas tree is a belter Farway 😍I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
