Farway said:Last pic, very interesting one, worth seeing what it turns into with the variegated leavesCould the 'thistles' be Hawkweed? https://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/common-hawkweed-0Keep one or two, just to see, then, either way, evict them! Not much going on here
. Still dreich, and the planning issue is really getting to me now. All I want is a blooming decision. If it's so hard, why are the public expected to interpret and apply the rules themselves? I can't even get a human being on the council phone line, as we seem to be in a loop that goes "Record your message after the tone, or press star to speak to the switchboard ...Beep!" So I press star and get,"Record your mess....."
I reckon they've gone on a bender with the drunkards, who are predicting thunderstorms around midday. DD2 was 2 hours late home last night after a supposed lightning strike on signalling, yet my app showed no lightning anywhere closer than Mid Wales.Son-in-law is back from his bender in Amsterdam: (sounds of snoring off-stage) No hamsters and no jam, but the biggest bar of triangular chocolate in a flavour none of us likes!Did I say the vet sent DD a condolence card for her ferret, which passed away peacefully about a week ago and is now powering the growth of a shrubby potentilla? Nice touch.

RAS said:I think the second one is cherry? My first thoughts as well, but wasn't sureI spent a few years nurturing a Kiwi that was really a cuckoo hazel from a squirrel
, so I'm no expert on spotting hazels
I suppose the fact it has aphids points more to cherry than hazel?Another one to keep a [young blue] eye on. May turn into something with huge juicy & sweet black cherries that birds hateEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4 -
Desperate thunderstorms here for 3pm, so I’ve got me bedding washed and out ha haa! Thanks for the help everyone, I so appreciate it
Top pic isn’t thistles, they're on the other side happily marching their way into my grass. Along with (pulled them out first thing this morning) mares tails! 😢
@-taff The pink leaves don’t smell like anything, not even after a gentle squish and a rub. They’re a bit thinner than the green leaves below them tho, if that’s a clue? The mys-tree I brought with me, grown from a seed that a bird poo’d out. I had 4 but only 2 survived. One in that bucket and one planted. The other one doesn’t have bugs on, I’ve just checked. The both did last year though, VERY sticky and hard to get offDusty would it be worth your while going in to speak to someone? Bring it to a head?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
My pepper seeds haven’t done anything either. In fact the compost is looking a bit furry now so they’ll probably have to be thrown out.
Tom is thriving though 🍅 I think it’s getting too big for the pot so I’ll have to find a bigger one for it soon.
My relocated rhubarb is doing okay. One clump has a new leaf, the other two are just kind of surviving.
Lots of baby birds here. I tried to help out by reusing some half coconut shells and filling them with a fatty, oaty, seedy concoction. Unfortunately I think they’ve set like concrete so the birds are finding them a bit hard going. I made 10 of them as well 😂
Cloudy and sunny here. Very mild though - perfect midge weather after the rain yesterday.'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
`Got to disagree about the hawkweed, I like it, very pretty and good at covering ground in the odd bit. I transplanted soem from the lawn [lawn, ha!] out the back to the front garden to cover some bits in the corner by the lillies, I love it's little orange fuzzy face. And I don't mind it seeding either, I just yank some out when it's a bit too much.Got thunderstorms here too apparently. And my eyesight is getting worse, I can't tell what those plants are YBE, they look like some kind of fern without my glasses on and eyes glued to the screen...there's some close up hawkweed if you need some..the fat green furry leaves [open image in a new tab to see a closer version]Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi4

I think I spoke too soon about the peppers!! 😳
About to throw them out and one of them has sprouted - it definitely wasn’t there yesterday. I’ve given them all a drop of water to see what happens...'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
Ooh hurrah for your peppers pink poppy 😃 mine still aren’t having it so I’ve told them they’ve got 7 days then it’s bin time. Shawshank rules!Zooming in on your leaves, mine do look similar taff. That’s the one to beat I think. Is that an old pic is it or are yours tuffety now?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3
