Snows all gone, just drizzle but milder this morning, looking very drab & miserable out there, thank heaven for the daffs and a bit of colourThe canna seeds I hacksawed a few days back have tiny white "eyes" appearing, if I look hard I can imagine they are embryo shoots. Another day in the airing cupboard will clinch itNo signs yet of the lettuce etc I sowed, but it's a bit too soon, by the weekend maybeNext thing is sort out what tomatoes to grow this year, One I always grow is Balcony Yellow because it always succeeds in my conservatory, and this year I have a red cherry type sent to me by our banned colleague, if I had space I'd grow loads of varieties, but space limits me to about half a dozen plantsYoungBlueEyes said:Hope the BD and his DB are alright.I've been extra-busy this winter. The hedges are all done, and most other clearing-up is too. While it's been cold, the unusual February dryness has been a huge help.Love to all on the thread. I'm watching, and I'd like to thank everyone for keeping it interesting.

Very cold but 5c without wind so feeling much better. Rain of course and still plenty of snow on nearby fields.
Warm air hit the cold so thick cloud.
No gardening again but I'm watching the gardeners world progs I missed and I'm full of great ideas that I can't possibly accomplish.

Bladdy cold out there this morning. The snow was in full swing when I got up a coupla hours ago, and the N/NE wind would cut right through you.
I've not seen or heard anything from the varmints under the decking. I know I prolly shouldn't but I'm gonna put out a little bird food before all my wee birds starve. Blacky's breaking my heart staring in my kitchen windowJust a few bits in the seed catcher wire tray thing. One good thing is all them damned pigeons have given up coming! Every cloud eh.
I'm with you on the great ideas I can't possibly accomplish 2p, nice to daydream about it though. I'm at risk of getting beyond myself. The garden here is a decent size compared to what I'm used to, but I'm looking at books+progs like - well I'm never gonna fit all my ideas in this garden, we'll just have to move
I've finished Shuggie Bain so went looking for another book (something lighter cos Shuggie rips the stuffing outta ya.) I found a some packets of scatter-these-about-for-a-pretty-cottage-garden seeds. Two of them are seeds implanted in tape, I don't even remember buying themI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.2 -
Dry and no snow, cold though, but expected to get worse later as the icy blasts come south.I may move my newly potted up streptocarpus cuttings away from the unheated conservatory windows just in case, it's never been frosted in there, but they are one of the more tender plants so a few minutes work could be worthwhileThe ornamental cherry tree opposite my house has taken on a pink haze as the buds are getting ready to pop, hope they can bide a wee while and miss the icy blastsMy fig in the conservatory has green leaf buds unfurling, could this be the year I pick yummy figs while slouching busy in the conservatory?Ta Da- trumpets please !!.The seeds sown on 7th are up, it's now the 10th, these were sprinkled on the surface, lightly sprayed with water to dampen them, into poly bags & into airing cupboardI have removed them from poly bags & they are now on a window sill, I'll let them get a bit larger and settled then they can go into the unheated conservatory because they are quite hardyThe Achillea is way too many, but nice to have a choice. Hard to imagine given reasonable conditions, by the end of summer they will be flowering above head heightEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4

Lol Farway are you trying to prove the moon thing wrong? That's a great result. I may try it on my veg seeds as this cold weather is going to be for the whole month. It's still freezing cold and been dry today but the clothes didn't dry and for the short time I've been out the back everything is soo cold now that even the sun doesn't warm it. Even the buds and blossom are holding fire waiting for some warmth. So I've been looking at the lambs from the car. Poor little things must be shivering being born into this. Here's the very first one of the yearBlue, how lovely to have friendly birds
I had a family of them that would come to feed and pick worms. Loved watching them from the window. They disappeared during the heatwave and haven't come back

Trumpets - parr prr prr prr par par par paaaarrrrrrrp! Those tiny wee dots of achillea will be above head height?? Jeez nature's amazing eh. And those lettuce look good too. If you plants tomatoes next Farway you'll be a squillionaire by xmas!
Also - mmmmm figs
I wonder if buds can hold themselves back if/when we get an icy blast? That'd be so clever. Wouldn't surprise me though.
Poor wee babby lambs 2p, it's a wonder they get enough to eat, or survive at all when they're born into this.
I wonder where your birds have gone? Do you still put food out? Or is there something deterring them from your garden, like some new hawks or something?
Sun's out here now, not really cold, but there's a decent layer of ice formed last night. The temps must have properly dropped....I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1 -
The sun’s hitting the bottom of the garden now so I’ve moved my pots out from under the fleece. And look at this puppy! It was barely a bump in the soil the other day, the cold and dark evidently suits it. I’ve forgotten what I planted, naturally.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3

Some sort of lily? Or fritillary? Imperialis?
Snow, squealy wheels and pavement scraping here. And sunshine. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing2 -
Sort of weak sun, still cold but a tad warmer.Nice result there YBE, could it be a lily of some sort? Mine have heads poking up and if yours was under fleece, maybe it got a shift on?The lambs, I suspect they soon get used to it, especially hill or moor sheep, and they already have woolly jackets and no doubt stick close to the mum for shelter. But I seem to recall seeing some with manufactured jackets, like dog coats, so perhaps it all depends on when & whereNo gardening today, but hoping to sort through the tomato seeds and pick some outThe Canna seeds in water, definitely have visible white germination sprouts now, and I have changed the water.I reckon a couple more days to get a real root & I can pot them up and get them in the propagator along with my soon-to-be sown tomatoesEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

I wouldn't have bought a lily, because what if it came up white? Mum always said white lillies are for death. I remember it was a big bulb.... time will tell. Whatever it is it sure got a shift on - it's done all that in a few days! So that's 3 mystery plants I've got growing now. The other 2 have had a go at pushing some buds out and look happy enough.
You can get dog coats for lambs. Gawd how did they all manage years ago ha haa!
Blacky's taken to eating from the catcher trayI thought they were ground feeders? Shows what I know eh.
