And woke up to snow falling :o , not a lot, but way too much for March. Not settled and now a weak sun is out

Hope you got your new plants covered in time YBE, another "trick" is moving them next to a house wall, they get any reflected warmth, plus bit shelter from icy blasts, a cheap and easy emergency must do something fix
Sounds like your rat problem is in hand, I know decking is well known as rat home, and why not? Nice and sheltered, plus maybe the odd scrap of dropped food.

Made my first seed sowing yesterday as hoped, Cos lettuce & the achillea. The seeds of both are tiny, so it was more of a sprinkle than sowing. Both now in poly bags in the airing cupboard to germinate

No other gardening planned for today

Ooh good luck with your seeds :) I really must sort out my tomatoes and get the seeds sown.

Yep plants covered and trees moved into the conservatory. Mind it's as cold in there as it is outside but should be a bit calmer for them. The decking is coming up shortly (himself promised "in the Spring") so that'll be the proper cure I think. I might have to go away for the weekend while he does it, I don't wanna be seeing all the tunnels and trails and stuff in my sleep.... :s

Seeds! Usually Feb for me but not a chance with this cold. You do realise that its a full moon? Seeds to plant on the waxing moon and they'll germinate quicker. If done on a waning moon they sit in the soil longer and may rot or get eaten..........an old wives tale. And it's usually right
Still no seeds that I want in the 89p site. Aparantly they come in and are sold almost immediately so my new hobby will be a visit each day.
Yes, I'd be away too Blue. Yuck. I haven't had the courage to peer under the flooring of the porch to see what's there. My imagination thinks it should stay undiscovered - but it might be steps.
So it was a nice sunny day after all that on the tv. 3c but no wind and sunshine. Went on a walk all dressed for artic temperatures and nearly expired from heat stroke.
Supposed to be icy cold tomorrow and wet so the garden can wait for the tropical temperatures of the weekend.
I'm curious about a dead looking shrub, just a bunch of sticks and seems to have been something from a pot worth saving. Can't for the life of me think what it was. I may never know.

Blue, the addiction was already there I believe when you wanted a garden, that's how it starts. I did one time walk round a huge new garden centre looking for specific things and come out with nothing. I was so pleased with myself. Then as I left the cashier said there's 30% off for the opening week......I walked back in and came out with one of the new Helebores and something else. But a bargain is a bargain :D

True! a bargain is a bargain whether you need it or not :D Imagine getting out with nothing bought... I think you're right - it was always in me. Mum wasn't a gardener but both her parents had green thumbs. Granda particularly, he loved geraniums and roses. Ooh I nearly bought a geranium in Lidl yesterday but the leaves didn't look like mum's ones and didn't have that smell when you rubbed them :( The leaves were more sort of pointy shaped, like holly. Is that what they're like now?

It was a beautiful moon this morning when I opened the back bedroom curtains (I didn't bother trying for a pic). Musta been quite cold here last night cos the condensation is back with a vengeance. V cold out there and no sun today.

I didn't know that about the lunar cycle and seeds. Interesting :) I wonder why it works....

The moon thing comes from a book Old Wives Lore for Gardeners - Maureen and Bridget Boland
"The moon affects the earths atmosphere so that statistically it is more likely to rain after a new or full moon"
It's full of tips known for centuaries like companion planting backed up by current science. You'd love it.

Snowing here too - and all the more lovely because it's going to be warming up a lot tomorrow :)

Lovely potential garden, plants and pots and tables to eat at spaces. Fun to design. And birds singing in those trees.

Photos later as I'm enjoying not having to dash off for the stuff I was intending to do.

Snow here as well, not deep but enough to look pretty if indoors looking out. I'm glad my pear blossom had the sense to stay as buds for now

YBE, geraniums is used to cover things that aren't really, like pelargoniums, chances are your mum's were pelargoniums which can have scented leaves. True geraniums are hardy perennials, very pretty in their own way
You can buy various scented leaves pelargoniums, insipid small flowers, though. I grew some once but apart from smelling like lemons or moth balls when leaves brushed were nothing inspiring

Lunar seed sowing, I seem to member someone, maybe Which? Did a trial on it, can't remember the results, probably inconclusive, or we'd all be out there on a full moon.
There was thought it was something to do with water / tidal / pull of the moon increasing water near top soil.

I was determinedly house hunting in Devon/Dorset last week. Tempted by a thatched cottage but it's been reduced several times and now it's on as auction so there might be something wrong hiding in there. Then I swing over and find a nearly new build in walking distance of the sea. What to do? Neither had the garden I'm used to but then will I need that when I'm nearer 80 than 60?

Wellies, I have had a smoke signal from the West Country from a banished former inmate regarding this cottage, as it may be near his reservation.
If you'd like to signal a return message let me know on here & I'll PM you

The snow has melted & turned to rain, only needs to freeze now to complete the mess

So the snow has stopped and a lot washed off with some gentle rain. Glad about that because I was tempted to go out and knock it off the veg brrrrr......it;s eased itself up to 2c now. Not long to go.

Thanks for the book recommendation 2p, sounds like it’s right up my street 😀 My snow disappeared too under a persistent drizzle. It’s flurried on and off all aft but it’s just wet now. Be an ice risk in the morning ☹️

Farway now you’ve said pelargoniums it rings a bell. The label might have called them that as well as geraniums (would that make sense..?)

Hope the BD and his DB are alright.
