Sunny day ahead, so certainly be out there doing something today

Drilled holes in my new plastic tubs, these will be on the front steps in full sun but look quite sturdy, can't be worse than the frosted broken ones any way. All, and my back, being well, I'll pot them up later today
It did briefly cross my mind to construct some sort of low container on the steps, but decided against it given my limited bricklaying skills

Yesterday I cleared the dead nasturtiums away, and some buddleias, I still have the plum tree pot to weed & other buddleia to prune, and a foxglove to move from a pot, and I found some crocus in the same pot :) so must sort out some mesh before the squirrels spot them

And, most important, my Tete a Test daffs have started to open :) , once the sun comes round its camera time this afternoon

Sunny but chilly out of the sun. Bit of a cold breeze too.

My neighbour built a planter in the actual steps by cutting out the middle of a paver. Looked really nice and wanted to do that. Possibly a 'step' too far for you and I getting down there to tend  ;)
What about trainee bricklayers from college? Could they be persuaded to build for you? Raised planters with class. Pre pandemic they used to invite people to have their hair cut for a small contribution and even a massage. Must look into that to see if they are still doing it now I've thought about it.

No gardening today. too busy trying to get confidence back in the car starting etc.
Oh and admiring my final layout of the lawn/beds. Until I get restless of course :)

It was lovely and sunny yesterday, managed to get quite a lot done, and was on a promise from Met Office for sunshine today, liars :s , dull & grey so far

I did get the dahlia potted up to start growth for cuttings later. It's Edge of Joy BTW, seems a nice one
Also repotted the Buzz dahlia from its broken pot on the steps. Hardly any roots left :'( , vine weevils I guess, no wonder it struggled, I've planted it deeper this time hoping it recovers and sprouts more roots

The carnation & hardy geranium in pots l just came up in a puff of dust, more rootless vine weevil damage
I MUST get some vine weevil killer PDQ, I'd use the nematodes, but they're even more expensive and have tricky temperature requirements, given the location on my front steps, baked in sunshine they'd probably fry

Next thing is finding some plant to go in the other pots, next time I'm in Home Bargains, no rush

Did they get to the bottom of non-starting cause? What was it?

Finally, picture time, some of the Tete a Tete in yesterday's sunshine

We got sun yesterday when we weren't supposed to then a thick covering of cloud.
The most I did was buy some more dutch iris.
Today some sun and we aren't supposed to.......
Will plant said surfit of iris because they seem the earliest and strudy when other things are such prima donnas. I may be a little over compensating and it will overwhelm next year.

The tete a tete are also reliable. Such a joy and need no tending.

Where is everyone? Are they all gardening and some lovely pics to come?

Quite mild here today, I should be out in the garden but feeling a little delicate after a night out 🥂it’s the last one that does it 😂
flowering at the moment are muscari ,tete a tete, snowdrops, primulas, scillias. There are buds on forsythia ,Choisya, Bowles Mauve, and an evergreen clematis that isn’t looking very green but has flower buds.

I got lucky at work and got 2 pots of iris and 2 of tete a tete for free the flowers have gone over now on the iris so will plant out for next year, the tête-à-tête are on the window sill they are a bit taller than mine , but will go out after flowering is over. Just need to find space for them😳
I’ve  plenty of moss Farway !! It looks nice close up too.

Notice loads of tiny weeds in the bed where I planted the acer, obviously because I disturbed the soil ,they jumped in there! Should get my Arris in gear and deal with them.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

Love the snowdrops and daffs together. Hadn't thought of that. Some shuffling to be done tomorrow for next year  :)

Weeds? They soak up excess rain or provide root shade ........best veg I had was after a long trip to Oz and the weeds grew.

  • Ooh lovely pics - the moss close up is fab. I'm also pinching the tetes/snowdrop mix! I took a pic yesterday in the sunshine of a few wee flowers growing from the gnarly root of the tree at the end of my road. They're so hopeful  I've got some crocuses popped up too, but they've only lasted a couple of days and are dying now! Daffs are trying and should be out. I've not done any gardening, but I have bought another plant, an azalea, and I've sweet williams in the hanging basket on the front.

That pretty wee mouse that I spotted a couple of weeks ago has turned into a family of rats. They're living under the decking and eating the foundations of our conservatory :rage: The council want stupid money to come sort it so I've been out looking for proper poison to put down there. Found some in a farm supplies shop. Fingers crossed it works fast.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.
