Being me, I grew my Rosa rugosa from seeds I 'borrowed' from a neighbour who uses them to surround a manège. Hers are red and white, but maybe white is dominant. I know at least one of the new ones is red, but the others didn't flower.I shall buy a couple of named varieties like this:or this:and work from there in future.

Dave I also thought the wasps would all be gone by now, thanks for the top tip I'll know to avoid the area where ours isHow long did it take for roses from seeds to flower?Just curious because there's a rose on one of my walks that is covered in lovely small red hips, some of which look very loose & could get trapped in my clothing as I mooch byToday was X Ray day, after that into a garden centre, duly distanced, for tea & a cheese sconeI spotted these in a border, guessing a giant thistle but stand to be corrected, artichoke maybe?

Hi all, hope all is okay F with your x-ray. Might be a thistle but I'll leave that to the experts lol.
Still have a wasp or two milling around the nest in my border. I'm hoping they will move on for next year as being stung wasn't nice (as per my other thread) 😔Just my opinion, no offence 🐈1 -
Those are Cynara cardunculus I expect, Faraway as they are still there. A sort of artichoke, but more ornamental than for eating unless you blanch the leaves. About 40 years ago, when we had people nicking stuff on our allotments, I planted out some neatly spaced Cynara as a decoy. Sure enough, most of them went. I often wondered how the thief got on with consuming them!Roses to flower from seed? About 3 years I think, but maybe 4. I just get them to 15cm or so and then bung them in a nursery bed. The ones that stuck to my coat on a garden visit 14 months ago haven't germinated yet.Another quiet day today; just log splitting, chain sawing, angle grinding and a bit of demolition drilling for light relief! One can have too much fun, so I may go for a long walk tomorrow if my friend is up for it.....Booking up for the Rosemoor glow in the dark evenings if there are any spaces left for DB and me. Not really my thing, viewing kale by fairy lights, but have to show willing.2

Were they the named varieties or their seed-raised ones? Never had a problem with Buckingham myself.

Thanks for the plant ID Dave, sounds very likely as it is still there and had an "artichoke" look to it, bit too large to fit one in my space so I'll admire from afarRoses from seed, I'll have to try it now, I suspect a lot revert to bog standard dog roses which I quite like in hedgerows but not my in my gardenEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

Kale by fairy lights is right up my alley D, nice and colorful to look at but no-one in my family will eat it (apart from me) 😸
Hi gb, just wanted to say the dog in your avatar is very cute... it's a dog... but nobody's perfect lol 😜Just my opinion, no offence 🐈0
