YoungBlueEyes said:Jeez that awarenessdays website is a proper rabbit hole woolsery! Is it? It was just the one at the top of Gogglie, and I didn't think Winnie The Pooh Days etc were very rabbit-hole centric. I might have missed something, though; my ad-blocker was working overtime there. Some people speak of rabbit holes, plural, meaning complex, which I think you're doing. In my understanding, 'The Rabbit Hole' refers to something else, rather like the blue pill and the red pill.I'll leave that here. You can always PM me if you want more clarification. I'm still here sniffing and sneezing, but the cough is gone. Yay!0

I thought we were going to get the whole poem....?Oh, hang on, is it Haiku? If it is, you're let off.
From what I remember, which isn't much, it was OK here at that time. Mr Sainsbury had just called, having somehow found this far-flung place. We had a conversation, in which he revealed his last drop wasn't until 22.30, which amazed me. He appeared not to be fighting any wind or rain at that time.Halfway through the afternoon, it was a different story. There were several claps of thunder and some torrential rain which had me trapped in the wood shed for 10 minutes, but that's becoming almost traditional. By the time I see something nasty approaching, it's too late to grab the wheelbarrow, go to the sheds, load up two feed bags of fuel and get back before the heavens open. With no gardening news, perhaps I should add a cheerful photo, so here is a Mahonia we inherited and brought back to health. I expect it's 'Charity,' but I haven't studied these shrubs in any detail.

Yeah I know what you mean woolsery. I meant in the sense it’s a time sucker. I was only on to look at the lengthening days thing and ended up clicking through all sorts. Winnie the Pooh day, popcorn day (?!) I musta been an hour on it 😳 Lucky I didn’t have anything else to do ha haa!Nice pic too btw. And hurrah for no cough! How’s DB?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1

Well the gutter didn't get mended - because it was raining!! Ideal time I'd have thought but hey ho. The guy put up some shelves and helped with the recalcitrant pressure washer and strip light. Also got me a plumber for the bathroom that never was.(having an obstinately uncooperative attitude towards authority or discipline.)My bulbs sit in the garage still. Too wet, cold and sticky soil to plant but did harvest 3 more tomatoes. That Mahonia is a blaze of sunshine in these days. Well worth the effort of saving. Now I want one.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

No one likes to depend on others for stuff like getting into the shower etc. DB's been battling for years, ever since we re-roofed the bungalow with help from another fit pensioner with some knowledge. Up and down ladders all day was too much for her. The obvious take-away from that is, "Even if you have to wait, get a roofer!" No leaks though. As for gutters; I did our dodgy one in the better weather after it collapsed in Eunice. Getting the brackets was the hard part. The manufacturer's ones were flawed, and they'd gone bust. However, I found someone had filled the gap in the market with better ones....at a price. £35 for 5 bits of plastic!
I wasn't originally fond of them, but in a 'breezy' location it does a great protection job, and it is cheery. It's also possible to be really brutal with pruning if one gets out of hand. No bulbs planted here yet. I have Minnow and Tete a Tete to go in the woodland edge. Everything is cold and mushy though, and I'm so behind with murdering weevil larvae!twopenny said:That Mahonia is a blaze of sunshine in these days. Well worth the effort of saving. Now I want one.

Blue sky & sunshine this morning. Good going on tomato picking 2P, I checked mine yesterday on my way out & they have all gone, blackened by blight and rain nowNo bulbs planted here this year, but I already have tete a tete in pots that pop up every year, and Albert Einstein pops up, poor one that is IMO so TBH I have enough. I do keep my eyes open for any Jetfire daffs even since the squirrels destroyed my last lot, but not found any at the "right price"Waiting on Spring to see how successful or otherwise the replanting of the volunteer border "Mount Hood" was, a nice if floppy daff, hoping it will be better saying upright in a border / bed than in the pots where it was getting overcrowdedVine weevil slaughter is still on my list as well, no point at the moment in watering killer on as I think it would just be washed out within an hour given present weatherEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

Yes, what a difference a day makes! It's so pleasant here this morning, I'm going to stay home instead of going off to have a 'consumer experience' at the supermarket. Still sneezing a bit, so another day to shoo-off the remaining bugs may benefit those I might have otherwise shared them with!Farway, I'll check your theory about the weevil mix running out of the pots. We can't have that, given the cost of the stuff! My most vulnerable plants have been given a generous dose, and they've sat out there in the rain through the past dismal week.
Around that most depressing day of the year I'll randomly test a few.
Our first primrose of the season's been spotted by the stream...3 -
Nice early bird pic there Woolsery, my cultivated primroses at the front have a few flowers on but looking very battered and weather-worn, they are really this year's crop not fresh flowered ones, but it's all there is with any colour at the momentToday's gardening will consist of looking through the B Friday dahlia offers on T & M, I was thinking of trying some large plate size flowered dahlias next year and a bit of daydreaming while on offer will not go amiss. At least if I grow them, I can mix & match with slugs & earwigsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Should've kept my big mouth shut!
Managed a few hours in sunshine yesterday, and then, while indoors having lunch, there was a massive downpour. The 5% possibility of rain had struck, and it lasted much of the afternoon.
The youngsters have volunteered to shop for us today, so I'm hanging around to see if hedge-cutting tractor man appears, though that will most likely be tomorrow. I'm also wondering where the digger I saw being delivered nearby is now and what it might be digging.
Here, no one cares what car you drive because they're all covered in mud, but digger envy is rife!
My best guess is that some troublesome drainage I know about is being tackled, and not for the first time.....
Tomorrow looks fairly benign and next week looks cold. Some oaks are still hanging onto their leaves, but it won't be long now before we're out of autumn and into you-know-what!3
