Ooh look at you and your hair! Such knees too 😊 And with your hands in your pockets…I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1

Yes, you can work out who the posh children of solicitors and bank managers are. Then there's the upwardly mobile ones, and finally, little ol' me!
No girls, 'cos we were the school's Beekeeping Team, and that's obviously man's work.
There were some strong and feisty girls in my class, though, especially the farmers' daughters. While they couldn't be trusted with insects, they had horses as compensation. I remember trying to feign an interest in horses while pursuing a girl called Hilary, who kept hers in the field where the hives were. It didn't work out. I lacked the empathy necessary to befriend a horse, and it sensed how I really felt. It stood on my foot, bruising me so badly, I decided Hilary wasn't worth the pain.2 -
Rain has stopped for today, like others it has been rotten weather the last few days with only a few leaves left on the trees now, the outdoor toms have all withered up with blight, cold and general malaise, but it's too cold & wet to try & tidy up for the moment, needs a sunny & crisp day for meNothing planned, and my gouty foot is back in ache mode, not keep in bed mode but enough to hobble about with.Bad luck on the leaky roof, mine was ridge tile way back, just needed reseating but as you say, getting someone trustworthy is a big problemThe only horses during my childhood were the milkman's, coalmans & bakers, and that was only because my grandad sent me out with a bucket & shovel for the poo post their visitsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

Farway said:The only horses during my childhood were the milkman's, coalmans & bakers, and that was only because my grandad sent me out with a bucket & shovel for the poo post their visitsHailing from London originally, and just round the corner from Express Dairies, I can just remember the bucket and shovel kept behind many front gates. I'd say the horses were phased-out for electric floats in the mid 50s, but the rag & bone men were still using them.Sorry to hear of Gout2:The Return. The bug I picked up from DB will probably keep me indoors today, but I'm not missing anything either, judging by the pools of water everywhere. The computer's saying "Mainly sunny" but then it thinks I'm in Bridgwater!

Yes I'm in that area and it lied.
Happily I went out walking with friends this morning and it was lovely sunshine. Then more cloud and rain.
Ah yes, in theory days longer by 60seconds a day or so but that doesn't really count.
Ooooo you look so cute Woolly, such a handsome chap.. bet you had the mums twisted round your finger!
Farway so sorry about the gout.. this weather can't help.
Blue I wouldn't bother to read back as it will be the same stories again but the pandemic bit may be interesting if you're ever bored
One thing I enjoyed was cutting a Gertrude Jekyll rose for my bedside table so it's fragrance is really enjoyed. Time to study the petal formation too. Just beautiful!
No ones lingering to notice flowers outside and usually I'm too busy labouring to really appreciate what I've laboured over.
There should be a lesson there

What is this life, if, full of care.... True that.
I can sometimes hear a rag and bone man here, I've not spotted him yet though. He is on a horse cos I can hear the hooves. That'll sort me roses out
My mum had gout. She used to soak her feet in warm water with a bit of mustard powder in it. I can't say if it works but she was forever doing it...
Bladdy awful forecast here for this morning, desperate rain and a bit windy 'til lunch time. Naturally 2 men have turned up to do my guttering. Unannounced.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.2 -

Ooooo you look so cute Woolly, such a handsome chap.. bet you had the mums twisted round your finger! You're right, we don't feel the benefit of those early lengthening days. The weather's usually miserable and cold, so it's no accident around the middle of January is allegedly regarded as the 'most depressing day of the year.'Not sure about 'handsome,' but you can probably detect a hint of 'William-ness' in that early photo of me. I refer to Richmal Crompton's character, of course, not the heir to the throne! There were many ways in which my life and that of William seemed to intersect, probably as we were products of the time. In many respects, we were freer than children today. Having earlier experienced the worst the State had to offer, I was incredibly lucky to arrive in that school, where there was a teacher who believed I might still be saved, if not by Jesus, then by passing the 11+. Mind you, it didn't quite work out like that. The grammar school was a den of iniquity!Sunshine and showers are still the order of the day here, along with gusty winds. Later, the weather will deteriorate, but hopefully my jobs will be done by then. I'm almost over this bug, so no excuse to lurk indoors now...It warms up a little at the weekend. Will that help the gout Farway?

Sun's out, but cold after torrential rain first thing. Gout 2 continues, but managed to hobble off to Mark's earlier. The weather does not seem to affect my gout Woolsery, although arthritis sort of it seems to be its own masterAh, the Just William books, I loved them as nipper even though his fictional life bore no relation to my real oneThe rag and bone man around here has morphed into scrap metal man and cruises around in a pickup truck with old washers etc piled in the back, not used but seems the method is leave scrap out & it goes, must be a few bob in it for someAnother non garden day, but I have my eyes on the Christmas cactus for photo opEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2
