  • There  was a window of about 3 hours here yesterday morning between the strong winds and heavy rain where we could actually see some blue sky and sunshine so did a bit on the allotment. The fig tree I inherited has unexpectedly produced more ripe fruits. Some were windfalls,  I'll be making fig chutney today.
Going to be out there with you Faraway, collecting seaweed, I put it in the compost bin. Might also find some sea glass.

Still assessing how I am this morning, but  I seem much better than over the past 4-5 days. :) Wimped out of my flu jab on Saturday, reasoning that as it always makes me feel 'Bleurgh!' for a few days, I couldn't cope with that on top of 'Ouch! x27'  I know people say the effects of the flu jab are all psychosomatic, but if you feel 'Bleurgh!' it's irrelevant where that feeling comes from! :p
Foolishly, I ordered 5 tonnes of concrete aggregate last week and 30 bags of cement, so I have to find somewhere to put it now. :| My problem is, BiL has parked a 20' caravan on the route I'd take to the conservatory floor with it and there's a load of other guff in the way, so I may need to do some serious work, instead of just pottering in the polytunnel and counting sheep... Baa!
I think there will be some sunshine this week for most of us and there's no sign of frost yet.  B)

Great MSE tip F, yoghurt pots and toilet roll middles are handy for seedlings/cuttings, or so I remember someone on Gardeners World saying lol.  It's looking good.  If you could collect the seaweed are you looking to make it into a liquid or perhaps eating it?  🤔
Not likely to collect any TBH, snap on weird hips plus balance.
It wasn't until recently that eating seaweed, apart from the odd nibble by those in the know was even a subject.
Never appealed but mustn't judge because I've never knowingly eaten it, the only time I had a derivative, Agar, the eventual result was extremely unpleasant and not discussed in polite company

Yesterday was a write off with the weather, just awful, this morning looks much better but just in case I've already been out in the garden, taking more grape cuttings, a different variety this time
Plus trying hardwood cuttings from my hibiscus. Ordinary purple one
I grew it from some seed that found it's way into my pocket a few years back, and has always been a "do-er", so I thought of adding one or two into the Volunteer border, for height & showy flowers
No seeds on it this year or I would try some again, hence trying cuttings this time round

Another plant that is a "do-er" in my garden is rose "Deep Secret". I do prune it but doesn't seem to mind a bit of neglect
Here it is, photo taken this morning

I lurve the seaweed after it's been processed and turned into what we call 'laver' here. :) The Welsh call it 'laver bread,' and while I wouldn't dare question their sanity, it looks much more like a pile of black goo to me.  :/ I have it with bacon, when I can, because sources are fewer and the price is pretty high nowadays. Years ago, you only get laver when there was an 'R' in the month, but now it's often frozen.  Any month in Devon has an 'Arr' in front of it anyway, as in:
    "Be it May or June?"
    "Arr, it be June, innit?"
June was a pretty maid! :D<3

Mild but dull, Dr's first thing, then quick check on the volunteer border, amazing how mild it is, still flowers out, including this Blackberry

Fig chutney sounds scrummy!  I'll send you my address and you can send me some! 😘

Beautiful pics F.  Not sure if seaweed is seen as a 'super' food these days.  Never tried it myself.  Makes me feel a little queasy the thought of it swaying about in the ocean with all the plastic and sewage but it's no different to eating fish I guess 😁.  Good luck at the Dr's.

Couldn't help but read your 'arrr' in a pirates voice D.  Be it May or June? Arrr it be June so shiver me timbers you dirty landlubbers!  (Disclaimer: any similarity to pirate quotes alive or dead is purely coincidental) 😸

Oh, that be the wrong 'Arr!' :o Devon Rs are short Rs, whereas pirate Rs are big, long, scary Rs. Mind you, at 5' 4" in my wellies I'm a short Rs person all the time! :D
Might have some exciting photos tomorrow ,as we'll be having some extreme tree surgery nearby when 7 unpopular poplars will be culled. >:)
Today, I cleared a new spot for a deep bed in front of a yew hedge, facing south. Hopefully, we can have a series of them eventually., replacing those we lost a few years ago to another project. I find deep beds are somehow much easier to keep weeded and looking good, but the only ones we have currently are in the polytunnel. The tomatoes and chillies are still hanging on in there, but the lettuce and mizuna, salad mixes etc come into their own now. :)

  • We have a few short R's here in Darrset. BC2, I've never made fig chutney before so not sure how it will turn out.  I'm leaving it to mature until Christmas.

Still amazingly mild here, I spotted an antirrhinum in flower while out walking this morning, it was a bit too low down to risk bending over for a pic at that time of morning [ooer missus]
Found this though, I confess camera has lied because I added the God rays later, I'm sure they would've been there had I loitered for a while

  • Will find out at Xmas ancientm (am) for sure.  Here's hoping it's delicious.

How's the tree felling and toothache going D?

Impressive pic F, decided to go down the old fashioned route (not googling it) and would guess that is a pampas grass?  Nice touch with the god rays lol.  Nice capture.

It's mild here today with that misty (gets you wet without you realising) rain. Popped out briefly to feed the birds and now have my feet up with a cup of coffee.  Today is a very lazy day 🐈
