Just keeping up with what everyone's doing.thread with a short line about the weather is interesting.
Different parts of the country, different chores and some interesting ideas, hints and tips.
A bit of humour is a great boost to keep the digging moving along  :)

Nice pics Rebekah, Iv'e tried growing both iris & cyclemen but find I'm only providing squirrels' breakfast so I no longer try them

Snap about Hampshire as well, last real snow was years ago, and now it we'll have blizzards at Easter

Very frosty morning and sun's out but too cold for me to venture out at the moment, I'd like to clear the Merton Thornless blackberry up, remove last year's wood etc and there's a few "water shoots" to remove from my old apple tree. But both jobs can wait a wee while until it's milder

What a nightmare on the squirrels! These are in a pot outside my front door. Try that? Ooh what a small world. I'm in Winchester where be you?

Only garden job today is to clean out the chooks. Otherwise it's hiding from the cold for me. Got some filing to do! Joy oh joy!! Want to go bowling just to get us all out the house but no one's going for it! Guess i'll just have to do some decluttering of photos on my laptop and backing them up to external harddrive and hubby's pc!

Gardening doesn't really start for me until 1st March! Then I force myself out!

I've had some sucess with sheeps wool recently to deter slugs.
I've heard of using horse hair in the past to put around bulbs to protect them from mice.
So putting either round bulbs to deter squirrels may work.
I put stones over my precious wild snowdrop bulbs to deter my hedgehog and that worked.
So worth trying either or all of this?
Sheeps wool i can gather from fences and fields around here. A walk with the kids Rbha?
Weather showers and a very cool wind. The promised sun seems to have gone awol so my trip out with the camera is off and I guess I carry on with the cleaning, sorting out computer files etc lol.
    Happy days  :s

Well worth doing, if only for back up before they vanish overnight :'(

It’s absolutely hammering down with rain & very windy, no gardening for today

On a brighter note here’s a picture of my polyanthus, Showstopper “Fire Dragon”, the ones I was planting out earlier this week and now getting a darn good watering

They were from D T Brown, bought in Oct, potted on overwintered outside by me. Here’s a post I made when they arrived https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6197328/awful-weather-typical-brits-talk/p219

Wrongly identified by me and now it's forever on the image, grrr.

Lovely Farway, and well named. Really brightens up the day.

I've been missing in action, the operative bit being in action. I volunteer once a week and we've spent time at least once a week working on the bee kit, apiary etc. Just cutting back, severely pruning, the hedge at the back took three mornings and another one lugging the branches and feeding the big chipper. Then I've worked on my plot until late pm.

We've had a dry spell which meant I could get on the plot, but a lot of it has been heaving out errant raspberry canes, pruning vines, fruit bushes, and trees. Still got a lot to do on the ground. Of course the last two weekends have been difficult weather-wise; four trees down in the park at the back of the house. Glad the big ash went the way it did; would have damaged a couple of houses going the other way. Both the ones that shattered just missed the tennis courts, diagonally opposite corners.

Can't sort out the loganberry because of the wind; that's probably priority for when we next get a calm day. And can't get the tree stakes I wanted either. Must have another hunt this week so I can drag a couple of cordons back into line.

My primroses aren't going to be anything like as interesting but I noted that the old Wanda on the plot is starting to flower and know it can make a good show if protected from the slugs and brought in for a bit. Might pot one on for a temporary house plant.

Meantime the snowdrops are out and the first crocus is showing a bud.
