Farway I agree LLB would look great with coleus. I love them but they don't survive long in my garden. I think it must be the overnight temperatures, just checked my greenhouse thermometer and in August it went as low as 7.3 degrees so obviously lower outside (and that is supposed to be a summer month)2

Big new border this year has a few Love Lies Bleeding which are hugely impressive from seed and have filled gaps until trees, shrubs and perennials fill out a bit.I've already sent for Castor Oil [Ricinus] seeds intending to use as "dot" plants, LLB could just add to the reddish theme given I've also ordered coleus black dragon with red in the leaves, and dahlia seed Bishops Children. I need a bigger gardenMy Kong coleus, sown six days ago, is up and raring to go. I'm passing one on to my granddaughter, the plant mad one going to Sparholt, she is off for a job placement interview this morning with Head gardener at Exbury Gardens , her course requires work experience in somewhere like that. I imagine anyone could learn a lot just by tagging along behind the gardeners there, and this time of year it should start to look stunning with the leaves, of course some of the work experience could be raking up acres of leaves & composting themHere's my newly hatched Kong coleus5 -
Ganga, the coin is my Money Tree but it's not yet germinatedDull & warm, only garden related job is more blackberries & apples to be harvested for a crumbleMy coleus cuttings have started to show roots in water, that's ten days. As per normal with water rooting I'll leave them to grow a bit before moving to compostRang RHS Wisley ref booking an electric mobility scooter for me, sorted [and free] but first available date is 26th, fingers crossed the rain keeps away on that day. I think I'll try and do it like online shopping, book slot and cancel if not required, maybe try for one mid October next time just in case it tips down on 26thThe cabbage whites on my nasturtiums are growing now, after me thinking the birds had scoffed them. As said before I just let them get on with itHere they are munching away this morningEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6

I am ashamed reading Farway's post because my Ricinus haven't made it into the border yet and I doubt they'll survive winter in the poly.OTOH, I was growing Bishop's Children dahlias before they were even a twinkle in the cleric's eye, and there's a long story behind that....but sadly no time to tell it now. I'm still growing them though.Last year, I booked Rosemoor 3x before getting a monsoon-free day, but this year I've been lucky and now it's back to a free for all.....err, well, not exactly free. We'll be in there next for the great seed dispersal, I expect.4

Yes, that's what happens with the free entry days. Surprisingly they often aren't crowded. It's so little known about like the Heritage Days that occour in September. I often do these but they clash with out 1940s week end this yearDone nothing to the garden as I've been off enjoying the 1940s. Looks like tomorrow too. All I've done is visit the charity plants lady to offer some plants.I did see some Gertrude Jekyll rose at the Watchet Railway station growing in another shrub. Great ideas as it's beautiful but leggy so something I intend to copy for mine and it was a problem.Always keep your eyes open - though I'm preaching to the converted.

Another day with no gardening other than looking and making no decision.
There's still fun and games here. And warm, dry, perfect for being out.
My arum lilly which has been flourishing has lost all its leaves, they went yellow and eventually rotted. I expected some, that's normal end of season but now there's a gaping hole.
I think there's a new leaf emerging from the base but not sure if it's just wishful thinking.
Any ideas?

Rain threatened here in the virtual world and reality, but I'm pleased nothing happened.
With a social event here next Friday, I was keen to get as much grass cut as possible, including a car park area in the field I've worked on for a week. Today, the hay that generated had to be cleared, so I was wielding a rake for 90 minutes or more and pushing the collecting mower for the same amount of time. Only one area to go now.
I was asked to rescue a field mouse from our woolly cat tonight, but by the time I arrived she'd been distracted by a fairly large hedgehog and lost the rodent. We saw a huge hedgehog last night, so they're definitely back with us again and I must try to get a photo.3
