Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Storm Evert is currently livening things up here. Yesterday, while we had a bit of sun I took a quick snap of the awkwardly named 'Paul's Best Yellow,' which has a very fat flower compared with 'Lucifer.' There's a few Lucifers trying to photobomb in the background too....Most of the afternoon yesterday was taken up with finishing the bit of tiling I was unhappy with on the conservatory floor. Now, with the tile shop crowing that they've sourced more of the tiles they should have sold us in the first place, I can get the guy who's doing it back to finish off, hopefully with no more problems.
This one stemmed from him making an error laying the final barrow-load of concrete and even self levelling compound didn't fix it. 3 days extra work from a few minutes of carelessness, but at least it's fixed now and I'm happy with the result.

The rain / deluge failed to arrive in force, just miserable drizzle, windy & dull this morning, not a day to be in the gardenOnly garden related is the garden waste wheelie bin has been emptied so I can start refilling once the weather improvesI have a "Buzz" buddlia, sort of dwarf and quite a nice dark purple, while dead heading it I've decided to try some cuttings from it, if they take that'll be few easy space fillers for the volunteer borderMy tree lilies are looking good, but would look even better in warm sunshine, however here's a pic just in case they get wrecked by the wind & rainEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens9

Loving the sunny yellows on such an autumnal day 😄
Storm Evert didn't make much of an impression here either - there was one huge deluge of rain at about 11pm last night and it's dull, cold and slightly blowy today with a few bursts of drizzle...but that's it so far.
Before the storm *arrived* (or didn't!) we cleared more stuff from the building site area - adjacent to our front door - where we plan to start digging footings over the weekend.
Tomorrow I'm going to be moving some of the rockery - including fairly large rocks, for which I'll no doubt need DH's assistance - as it's located where one wall of windows is planned 🙄 Today, however, I'm staying inside - concentrating on creating artwork for the guest bedroom.Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Just popping in to say that if you want rain we have entirely too much of the stuff hereabouts and would be very happy to give it to someone/where else! If anyone has any tips for growing gills I would appreciate them.
Meanwhile I stumbled across this very funny article on lawn improvement in the Independent and thought others might enjoy reading it too. How I rescued my lawn – but ruined my life | The Independent4 -
Blowing a hoolie here but worse a couple of nights ago. Isn't it just the way when I moved the potted bay away from shelter and didn't bother to secure the pot thinking 'it's summer' but all ok so far.It was interesting trying to pick some raspberries for breakfast with the massive cane blowing in the wind and me just half awake. The garden is looking a bit a lot of a shambles at the moment. It's going to take a good seeing to when it's not too hot/not too wet/not too windyBut I feel quite relaxed about it now. I have a garden, it's ok, flowers seen from every window and it's productive. The detail can wait.Just love the colours of the Crocosmia. The red I'm seeing in quite a few gardens and it makes you feel happier just looking at that colour. And enjoying seeing all the individual gardens.Goldfinches I'll watch that but I've improved my lawn thanks to this forum and the secret ingredient. Of course the neighbours now put it down to the owner 20yrs ago returffing
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Another dull day, not one to inspire much gardening. I poked my head out earlier and found the dwarf French beans are now just skeletal remains after overnight snail chomp festOld jokette, but they are has beans nowForecast is drier next week so maybe make a start on summer pruning the apples before they become a jungleEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens3

So-so day here too, but I will visit the Market and then fill holes in the conservatory to make the plaster job quicker for the building guy.twopenny said:The garden is looking a bit a lot of a shambles at the moment. The detail can wait. That's the right attitude. I know ours is going to get away from us soon because of other distractions and I cannot handle it + building work alone, but with every autumn comes a chance to catch-up and re-assess.
Things seem rather dire at present from my perspective, so the wayward nature of nature is almost a comfort. I'll be off again soon to have another look at Rosemoor's titivated acres and see if the hot garden has moved beyond luke warm......Ah yes, Luke Warm was a character in play I was in a few years back, a galaxy away now.
Edit:Just found this guy with one antenna apparently missing in the living room. Flew away OK though...

Hi, those photo's of Crocosmia got me thinking that Crocosmia ( Montbretia ?) is one of the few rogue plants that survives in road verges in the Isle of Skye, seems to be left alone by sheep and deer. Anyone else notice this in verges and have any idea why they seem to be left alone.5

There's lots of deer-resistant plants on the RHS web site and crocosmia is in there. We don't have problems with deer, rabbits or even pigeons here.
