Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Looks like another 'mixed' day again. I may shop, having been spared the chore of going up the wotsit to meet MiL on her %$£st birthday as their car's broken down.
Apparently the vehicle's computer has had a personality upgrade and now says, "Supply your own power for the steering & brakes, just like in the good old days you're always on about!"

...but in my view worth every effort to try! Definitely on my hate list that one!
I can see why in a small garden though ..... in those instances the dwarf range provide all the balze of colour without the height and spread, i have 6 here, put 1 in the ground in spring and it's loving it 👍💖Now there's a thought, I did try taking a cutting from the sole survivor, but it seems to have failed. I shall try again once I prune it backI could buy more but as the three poor performers I had came from T & M not from them next timeInteresting about the brighter colours attracting the butterflies, now it's pointed out it's obviousI had my thieving plant collectors eyes on a pendulous weeping form hanging over a car park near me, but as I was about to pounce it was cut back beyond my light fingersMaybe time to revisit? It's near the chip shop as well, double bonusMixed day here, chucked it down already

Davesnave said:Apodemus said:Davesnave said:You won't kill buddleia, Black Cat!Depends on your situation, I guess. We have a couple of wilder, wooded areas for wildlife, so planted n the fringes of those they're great, especially the Devon variety 'Dartmoor,' which is undoubtedly the best butterfly attractor I know of.I also like the little one 'Buzz Raspberry.' and the clear coloured 'Pink Delight,' but I'm just a sucker for anything that brings in the insects.Speaking of pollinator plants, the very best we've had this year is Erysimum 'Bowles Mauve which literally keeps on flowering until it dies from exhaustion!1

It's a pale lavender so sadly not as bright as the others i have.
I absolutely love Buddleias and grow quite a few, different varieties, here 😍2 -
When i went up the wotsit yesterday it was remarkably quiet, especially as half term's happening as we speak 😬
Weatherwise it was as mixed as it was back home, apparently.
Todays weather is the same, all seasons in one day again 🙄 - and, those temps are most definitely dropping 🙈🙉🙊😉

Bit the bullet and trimmed my buddleias today, ty for the advice. Sat down with a large cup of coffee and looked out at my handy work... bit lopped sided but overall neat. One more thing to cross off my gardening list 🐈Just my opinion, no offence 🐈1

I'm afraid I have Buddleja in the same category as Rhododendron ponticum - I just can't get past seeing it as an invasive species. It seeds itself in places where it can do a lot of damage and can be really difficult to remove. Of course, I shouldn't tar sterile Buddleja hybrids with the same brush.
I'm all for feeding the local insect life, but in most cases, the Buddleia is only acting as an indicator of local butterfly prevalence - feeding the adults that are in the area, but not providing breeding sites or feeding sites for the caterpillars. My Escallonia hedge provides a similar niche in my garden, provides nectar for the adult butterflies but doesn't self-seed itself across the county!1 -

Sadly the wood pidgeons love the berries so i didn't get rid of them all, i left the 1 plant just for them - and remove any seedling on sight.
Huge thunderstorms, with hailstones, this afternoon 🙄😏0 -
That's fair enough A, buddleia don't appeal to everyone and their gardens. I have a little scruffy patch of nettles I've let grow under my rhoderdendrum (probably spelt wrong) as I remember Monty (swoon) saying they are great for caterpillars. My buddleias haven't seeded themselves anywhere else (yet) but if they do then I'm sending them to F lol.
C, no hail here although we did have a right old downpour mid afternoon ☔
D, did you end up shopping today as you planned?Just my opinion, no offence 🐈1
