Usual baking day, it was nice first thing when I went for my prescription, but soon flipped into gas mk 8

2P, hope the little yellow tom turns out tasty, shame about the courgette, but it's early days as you say. My golden balls are just starting to get into it, but can't seem to synchronise boys & girls to come out to play at the same time, I've two plants so did hope they would play fair and give each other a helping hand. Maybe lezbeanism is catching 😁?

High hopes for tom Paul Robeson, he's already twice the size of Divinity, but in true beefsteak tom fashion, a bit shy on fruit. I only have one set so far

Far too hot for any gardening, unless emergency watering. Unlike GB who has sorted the irrigation, just in time as well as the heat may go on & on for another week or so, allegedly

Hose pipe ban here - just as well I got the siphon working. Starts at 1.01am tomorrow morning so I will aim to give all the beds a good soak tonight, but now the siphon is working, I won't fill the IBCs up from the hose :)

What sort of syphon Greenbee? Did you buy it or make it? Any photos?

I use the bathwater too but I'm not to lift heavy things and it takes forever to use a jug into a bucket.

@twopenny https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/127938623633 - I found a length of hose that reaches from the bath to the patio, and there's a hose from the patio to the IBCs. Obviously if you have a water butt under the bathroom window it's even easier! You do need to make sure that the hose is completely full of water (not air) and I couldn't put the whole hose in the bath to fill it. Nor can I fill it from the bathroom tap even with an adapter as it has a stupid tap. So I dragged the tap-connected hose up through the bathroom window, filled everything with water, and swapped it over with the siphon under water. I'm just hoping there's not too much air in it when I try to start it after my next bath, as I will need all that bathwater for the veg plot!

If you can set up drip irrigation, that might be most effective. I have a drip system running off the outside tap for the patio pots, and one running from a water butt in the greenhouse. Both run on solar. And the drip irrigation is exempt from the ban as it has a timer and pressure reducer.

Stinky is very unhappy about the lack of walks since breakfast, but I burned my feet poking about in the flowerbeds, so there's no way he's going on the gravel or the road any time in the next few hours!

I looked at some videos for the syphon and I bought similar years ago that was supposed to work with a bucket washing the car. Frustrating because sometimes it worked and was great and sometimes nothing would make it work. But I'll get one if I see one. Thanks.

I'd need a lot of drip feed to cover the garden but there's not really anything else.

Another scorchio day, but 2p may have some strong gusts of wind along the coast.😀 Here, we stayed at around 25c all night in the house, but I don't find that hinders sleep. Indeed, I've fallen into the habit of siestas again! 😴

Beautifully cool morning so all doors open on the shady side, curtains closed where the sun rises. Looks like I'll have to lock myself in this afternoon to avoid the horrors of yesterday's heat.

Cooler night but still up at five, busy thinking about garden things to do.

I was out gardening by 0630, nice and cool compared to previous days & time, plus a cooling breeze, unlike the blast furnace previously. Supposed to back to scorchio as the sun gets up

I have ripe blackberries, picked a handful while out there, and topped up bird bath, it was bone dry, pruned some roses and made a start on summer pruning some apples, but more left than I had time for this morning

My tasty French pears are looking good, makes up for still no runners on my lezbeans. It's an insult really, never seen healthier and flowerful plants in my garden, just stumps where flowers were & beans should be.

I have carrots 😊, not many, but showing feathery tops. Sown after manky toots removed

Ha Ha with the micro toms 2P, but at least you have some ripe ones, unlike me. I suppose if they grew in bunches, like grapes, they could be poncey addition to a posh salad?

Found a home for one of my Boysenberry rooted tip cuttings, a fellow ex volunteer who was helping with volunteer border. During Covid I gave her a Merton blackberry, which is now fruiting away. She has plenty of fence space, plus a young DGD who, loves picking stuff in Nan's garden. I have just the thing, the Boysenberry has rooted in a wall basket and already has a new cane about a yard long, could well fruit next year

No more gardening today, already had to pop a pill with my back after the early efforts

Following my eventual success in getting a sea holly to grow, here in same vein are alliums, never ever managed to get these before.. Not the jumbo football sized ones, but it's a start
