Coincedentally I've got some seeds for them to sow next year so we'll see how they do!In a brilliant further bit of synchronicity....Since tapping-out this morning's modest contribution, I've delved into my new Chiltern Seeds Catalogue, and found they've Mangelwurzel seed, red and white. First time ever!
Obviously, 2026 is going to be 'The Year of the Wurzel,' though probably not here. Mrs D doesn't even like beetroot.
Incidentally, I think it was 2p with the hellebores and a daphne in flower.
Another post I almost missed somehow.

Bright, but grey at the same time, at least it's dry for the moment. nowhere near as nice as Dusty's sky pic.
Nice fresh choices to be had 2P, there are similar around here, but certainly not cheaper, it's arm & leg premium territorytwopenny said:Beetroot is involved in the making of bovaer which they fed to cows supplying supermarkets. Doesn't go into the milk so they say.

Just given the choice I like stuff to be not shifted hundreds of miles and messed about with but then I have the staples here in eggs milk, cheese and ice cream made locally. And it's cheaper.
Even the sausages I could know the name of the breeding sow - which I declined 😵💫 too much. And the meat from named local farmers. Here's a surprise, said no one ever, Beeb misinformation / misdirection on Bovaer. Welsh choirboy anyone?I asked AI, and got a long response, in summary"Short answer: No — Bovaer is not derived from beetroot. That claim circulating online is misinformation.
: Bovaer is a chemically manufactured additive, not a vegetable extract. Claims that it’s “from beetroot” are inaccurate — it’s chemically related only insofar as some ingredient building blocks might come from plant-based feedstocks during synthesis, which is quite different from being derived from beetroot itself. "
Could be AI is fibbing, been known, but a fibbing Beeb is also known. DYOR as they say
Knee continues to improve, I did get to limp around the garden yesterday, a few more green shoots spotted, clematis leaf buds and some crocus leavesThe large clay flower pot I have an apple in is starting to flake away with frost, so much for frost proof
I've got a suitable large plastic one so over the winter dormant period I'll move it over.
After my beet post I asked about growing sugar beet and getting sugar out, as expected, not worth the effort in time & money.Dustyevsky said:-taff said:I'm thinking your pic is mangelwurzels, at least I hope so. Also experimenting with photos, have the MSE app and wondered if uploading on that would automatically resize my pics, so they don't look so in your face on a laptop... Trying with another dead tree, from this morning's walk...
Hmm, unfortunately, although it offers me the option to browse for the image, it doesn't go anywhere when I try...

Will have to be an in your face pic then...

Quite pleased that I was able to edit out an intrusive telephone wire, which spoilt that shot, but I think adds drama je ne sais quois to this one...

No pictures yet of our annual foray to find the perfect tree, but here are the hedgehog houses I promised to upload. They need painting with animal-friendly stuff (I'm told Ducksback is OK) but otherwise they're ready for action.
Mrs Dusty has kilos of dried beech leaves to go in the sleeping area on the right side below:
Now I expect the hog people will be too busy with their own Christmas prep, so we won't need then till the New Year!

Those hog houses look strong & stable Dusty,
The lino floors are a nice touchI prefer the first in my face tree Less, it's fine on my desktopPhone troubles behind you now 2P? My new one, Honor, is in limbo right now, still need to move my SIM over but keep putting it offI loaded a camera app on, which is supposed to give lots of control, but I'm struggling with thatNumerus non sum3 -
Ha! Haha Dusty. That's a nice place for your rogue cat to sleep 😄
Farway mines an honour too. I've spent more time playing with stuff and finding out how to get rid of the gazillions of messages about more apps.
I should have been getting phone numbers on.
Have got my music on a micro card though.
Less I can adjust the photo sizes on my laptop. Click for a frame and drag. Just make sure it's not select and delete. That's the trick 😊
Linke the triangles.
Saw one big shooting star last night 🙂I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
