What d’ya call that plant that loses its leaves in winter then starts again with lovely wee yellow flowers in Spring before doing leaves again? Well there’s one at the end of my road, and for some reason the council butchered it yesterday! You can’t tell from this pic but there’s a good pavement on the other side of it so it wasn’t for sight line reasons. Shipbags.Honi swanky malyponze. Or something.6 -
Probably Winter Jasmine. It will shoot out again. It's a tough old beast.
If you want some pull a branch or two out and stick it in the garden. Or check around the roots because it will root into the ground where it touches. You could have some in your garden for next year then.
Wonder why they would cut that and not the mucky ivy?
Relatively warm again this morning so joy 😊
Got to be places but hope it will stay fine and I can get some sorting out done in the garden.
Blimey, even the sun has come out!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I consider your sky very calming and certainly not unbeautiful WM. There's a place for the blue, pink, and grey. Thinking that reminded me of this song from my youth....rather uncharacteristic for the artists concerned!
Sorry the pink & blue went down as an 'attitude problem' for you, Bluey. “The eye only sees what the mind brings means of seeing,” as someone once said. Tell her that!
Oh, and the airstrip is safe. We can offset the cost against tax by tapping into a rural development fund, or else claim it as a basking site for rare lizards, I'm sure there's something.
Commiserations for the rude response at City Plumbing 2p. I'm feeling similarly deflated, having asked about the government's Eco scheme for those on low incomes with EPCs of D and below. Our postcode's, 'Not Eligible,' so I guess they think all's fine and dandy, out here in ruralshire. No something for us!
And at present, with the sun streaming into the conservatory and double figure temperatures outside, I must admit it's very pleasant here, right now. Stiff back or no, ( I was daft and moved a heavy planter on my own yesterday
) I'll not be able to stay indoors. Round 3 from the HogCam last night was a decisive win for Mrs Dusty:
However, there was no hog activity. We will continue to monitor, but it's likely all are now hibernating. There are plenty of places for them here to do that.

Blue sky, which still manages to be dull & grey somehowHappy Black Friday everybody

I took had a silly bit of domestic nonsense. Went into city plumbing and there's a miserable guy in charge now who said that I go in lots and never buy anything (which isn't true) so he wouldn't serve me! I am still fuming but you can't change stupid.
I did a tiny bit of gardening. I pulled huge weeds out of rain sodden pots which should have bulbs in. I resisted the urge to dig around and see if the bulbs have rotted so that's a job for the weekend 😐IF I manage to grow the pepper seeds, then yes, potentially more peppers if I don't knock them over etcBlimey, what an attitude in CP, and folk blame The River for Death of High Street. I've never been in a CP shop, can't think why I'd go and browse there anyway when I can potter among the dead Morries plantsYour rain sodden pots. I had that & it was due to the bottom holes being blocked, having blocked bottom holes can give drainage issues
Agree, we keep Airstrip One, perhaps we could have a Small Nuclear reactor powering an AI date centre in the secluded woods / forested area to supplement our income?YoungBlueEyes said:Well stripey socks went down badly. They too are unprofessional, further comments were made re my 'attitude problem', and I didn't laugh once! BBM said what are you poking her for, she's like a dog with a bone now and it's not funny any more. So if I make it funny it's alright...? He said she's met her match in you... Please, that woman is not my match - and he laughed
So I've added StickOn Googly Eyes to my shopping list and when himself asks me what I want for my Christmas box I'm gonna say a bright pink yellow black pair of Five Fingers shoes
Oh and what has Rach from Accounts done to our Rottery Acres dream?! Cow. I vote we batter on regardless... and we need to keep the airstrip or how will I get out in me wee spotty plane!Or go all 007 and tunnel into our mountain with secret villains lair.OH, tread lightly there YBE, sometimes a bitten tongue is preferable to a P45. Just reminder Karma and maybe buy a Voodoo doll
Forsythia? The stems left look similar and description fits. If it is, at least it will bounce back. Cuttings are easy as well, next time you pass by.YoungBlueEyes said:What d’ya call that plant that loses its leaves in winter then starts again with lovely wee yellow flowers in Spring before doing leaves again? No gardening again, looking very uninspiring out there right now, dead and limp plants everywhereNumerus non sum7 -
Ugh!! Have just lost a huge post!! Will try my best to remember the important bits!!
The Who song wasn't what I expected Dusty - there's a lesson in there isn't there! I strive to bloom where I am planted (we are in the gardening corner of the Forum!!). I am working from Mum's today and was rewarded with a beautiful sky - the air was crisp but it was sludgy underfoot. No sign of the albino blackie though 2P and YBE - it is like a blackbird in every aspect except he is white all over - his yellow beak stands out!! I tend to only see him at dawn and dusk so wonder if this is some form of defence mechanism??
Pomander Sunday is where I get a gang of pals together Less and we make Christmas pomanders!! They cost a fortune normally but I charge a tenner and my friends create some gorgeous results. One friend told her neighbour that hers had come from Fortnum and Mason last year!!

I swept my lawn of leaves as I am a bit like Hyacinth Bucket and want it to look nice for everyone
To be fair it was a job I'd been ignoring so it gave me a good excuse!!
I love the idea of Rottery Acres having a secret nuclear bunker and energy plant Farway - it'd be good to know we can survive "off grid" and still threaten world peace if required!
Anyway I have to dash, I wish everyone an amazing weekend.

It's been a cold one today but only a spit of rain which was nice being as I decided out fo the jobs to do to set out the next step, so that's done, screwed together and filled with blocks, awaiting painting and gravel on top. My OH is off now until January having broken his ankle while on holiday so I'm free to do the stuff I like for the most part, so tomorrows joys might be taking apart the sleeper beds to take to the allotment. Looking forward to that...farway, these are the bulbs, any ideas? They were a gift and I've forgottne what she said they were or she didn't tell me, one or tother...
I think shouting at the tv should be an olympic sportImpressed with continued tomatoes 2p! Have you seen the ones that are grown for storage? I keep seeing them on She GrowsVeg posts...might have to investigate next year but you're already doing it
Bloody jobsworth people too, ahlf the fun of going to places like that is the chat about what you need and what else you could use...The hawthron canopy looks very smart, amazing what a difference it can make...Your lily is brave too...Love your pomander WM, I may copy you and stick a bracket up that's been languishing awaiting a home and make one. I'm doing a wreath making in December with friends so that should be interesting again..I do love making anything...how cool is a white blackbird too!Less, giant parsnips? How fabulous too!ybe, be careful, if she's in bbms good books and less dispensible....etc etc...the Swifty may suffer...but then sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do too. That's a bot fo a hatchet job on whatever it was...I can't even tell what it was to be fair.well done Mrs Dusty, she could join the Marine Corps now with all the adapting improvising and overcoming...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6 -

Bought 500litres of oil at a good price though.
We've had good service at two City Plumbing outlets used in recent years. In the end, most of our en-suite stuff was purchased elsewhere, but I bought the basin tap at CP because the chap had been so helpful. It's luck of the draw with shops....after all, in one DIY outlet near here, you might get Mr Canute on one of his bad days!
I'm with you on Forsythia, but this could run and run, in which case it might easily become the Forsythia Saga.....I'll get me coat!
Yes, not everything by The Who is 'meat & potatoes' as they once described their output. It's like Heavy Metal appearing all doom and gloom from this side of the world, but in Japan, much is upbeat and delivered by young ladies who look like they've dressed for a prom!Working_Mum said:The Who song wasn't what I expected Dusty - there's a lesson in there isn't there!
I know which I prefer!
That's a lovely, welcoming porch, very similar to ours, but we're missing the pomander, and you're missing our spiders and woodlice!
Not a bad day here, weatherwise. Sunny and showers. I did what I could in the polytunnel, but having stupidly hurt my back shifting a soggy planter yesterday, that wasn't as much as I'd hoped.
The pain's wearing off, so I'm no longer doing Quasimodo impressions, and hopefully it's back to normal tomorrow with a lesson learned.
Next Monday doesn't look too special, darn sarth!

I remember those gorgeous decorations from last year Working Mum 🙂
I feel I should give it a go and I will one day.
We used to have similar hanging around a yarn market in a village nearby and it really cheered up a winters return from work. I'll have to see if I can dig out some photos but it happened every year - till it didn't so I bet I haven't got any.
Around 6-8c here with a light warm wind so that'll do.
But wet of course.
Blue sky one way, charcoal grey the other.
I keep looking at the garden and the jobs but it's still too wet to get out there. But if the weeds get bigger they are easier to pull out.
Not worried about city plumbing. I waited 4yrs for the bathroom but went to big town CP and he had it ordered, a firm to put it in all in 5 weeks. I think that's where the attitude comes from.
Still we have another plumbing supplier, two builders merchants and a Toolstation in nearby town. I wonder if my difficulty in getting trades is because they've been bad mouthing me so I'll find out which ones use the other suppliers 😈
Looking forward to finding out what Taffs bulbs are. They look familiar but I can't put my finger on it.
Oh and Dusty, have you heard that Brymore closed because of a sickness outbreak and another school has now closed too for the same reason. Norovirus. I shan't be round the shops for a while and if I have to go it will be with a bucket of sanitizer!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Weather, drizzle & grey, and what's with this snowmageddon stuff? We had our Southern snow ration the other week, went on & on for about an hour, it was nearly a blizzard, some flakes even settled for a few minutes.
I'll have camera fully charged though, just in caseForsythia Saga, love that.
I have a cutting, which should flower 2026, taken from the one I planted in my old Volunteer border. Only took it because I could, poke stick in the ground style. It's just a non de-script one, not whack in eye with stunning beautyTaff, bulbs, look like mad hyacinths, possible? They are common pot plants and often fail to flower if "not right"No gardening again, wet & soggyNumerus non sum7 -
Late to the party today, thanks to shopping, visiting DD2's place, and calling-in at the garden centre. I took a few photos at the latter, so there may be something I can show here among them.

Farway may have done it again with the ID.twopenny said:Looking forward to finding out what Taffs bulbs are. They look familiar but I can't put my finger on it.

I thought they looked like 'blind' hyacinths too, but didn't like to say.
Surely the immature flowers would be showing by that stage, if they were going to put on a display? I didn't know about the norovirus outbreaks. Bridgwater isn't local to me, but I can be there in an hour, if I push it, so not that far either!
One never knows who was pushing the trolley before, so since well before Convid, I've kept sanitiser in the car over winter. I suppose there's no logical reason why not in summer too, except that the UV in sunshine is a good germ destroyer.
It was very mixed for us today, and there was a bitter wind at times, but I believe it's actually icy up Bluey and WM's way.Farway said:Weather, drizzle & grey, and what's with this snowmageddon stuff? We had our Southern snow ration the other week, went on & on for about an hour, it was nearly a blizzard, some flakes even settled for a few minutes.
As an aside, I was reading an Exmoor history book the other day in which the author casually mentioned agriculture around 1500BC at more than 1000', adding, "Of course, the climate then was a good deal warmer." What??
Hmm, it must've been all that peat burning and cow farting, I guess.
Things are still mild enough here for one hedgehog to have put in an appearance last night, but it didn't hang around.
The cat also showed-up, hours later, gave things a cursory inspection and moved on.
With all this talk of cold and wet, I'm posting an exotic-looking plant snapped in Rosemoor's fruit & veg area early this month. It'll be mush now.
We grew these a few years ago and perhaps next year we'll have another go, if the seeds will still germinate. Cobea scandens or Cup & Saucer Vine:
