Thanks Farway! Pruning and training is something I need to get thinking about sooner rather than later, as It'll be a lot easier if I start now!
Having said that, I still have a lot of scything to do in the orchard, and no clue when it will get done. Four roses arrived yesterday, and there's a honeysuckle to replant and the veg plot to tackle. Fig needs training, blackberry needs training... I really do need a premium bond win. Or for someone to start paying the cat for squirrel corpses.6 -
Think I've spent too much time on this forum.
When I was woken at 4am this morning I was dreaming about tying fleece around fruit trees and then meeting puppies 😀
Lovely sunny day running round dealing with phones. Went to decompress on the beach and photographing a beautiful peregrine falcon that was sat on top of a tree.
Only gardening, begging some Viburnum cuttings from a council gardener trimming a large tree. Mine is alive but the leaves remain brown. Interesting chat.
Hopefully photos and I can move back through the thread to remind me what everyone is doing 😊I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Good morning all, on Claude Monet's birthday
I'm only having a quick go cos I'm a bit behind meself this morning.
I'm glad yous liked the church pic. Credit to Less for the 'framing things through a hole in the trees' type setup
Gb You wanna start hiring that cat out for cash *nodding* I'd pay good money for him to come here for a week and clear the churchyard of squirrels
Bluddy filthy weather out there, lashing rain and a gusterly easterly and it's only to get worse as the day goes on. Wind could top out at 48mph around bedtime, say the drunkards. It's 8'c but the Feels Like is -1
It's to rain all day and all night and won't stop 'til tomorrow afternoon. Himself is gonna have a fun drive back up from Epsom
Oh and Billion Dollar Baby
"One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate change policy is environmental policy. Instead, climate change policy is about how we redistribute de facto the world's wealth." - Ottmar Edenhofer, IPCC economist, interviewed at COP164 -
Claudia doesn't seem too troublesome here yet.
The rivers are still within their banks and the wind's nothing special. It seems we shall have a goodly amount of rain dumped on us before it clears-up in the afternoon, but I may ignore all the dire warnings and go shopping.
According to the sloshed seers, it's not until Monday night we'll see our first frost. Currently, it's still around 12/13c, so we're going to notice that!
Yesterday, as predicted, Mrs Dusty, attacked the mature Portuguese laurel hedge surrounding our drying area, using the new Bosch hedge trimmer we had to buy when both batteries on the previous model failed. As we couldn't tell if it was the unit or the batteries at fault, we purchased a larger model, so now we've two sharing the one battery.
As the originals are so unreliable, and expensive, I'll probably go Chinese for some compatibles. Both machines are great, so it's a pity I can't recommend them wholeheartedly.
While Mrs D made lots of mess, I started the long job of clearing the brush from behind the fences on the top field with my chainsaw. Managed around 30m, so 'only' 170m left!
After hefting the saw over barbed wire in the morning, I was glad to do picking up for Mrs D in the afternoon. We filled 5 dumpy bags and got them into the van before the rain at 17.00, so that was good.
Recycling centre on Monday....
T'was a masterpiece, nonetheless!YoungBlueEyes said:I'm glad yous liked the church pic. Credit to Less for the 'framing things through a hole in the trees' type setup

Wet & windy here as well, luckily nothing that must be done, it'll all wait
You've "broke" my dream, I was doing something with fleece as well, pegging it down I thinktwopenny said:Think I've spent too much time on this forum.

Hope phone is now sorted & the peregrine pic turns out a masterpieceAnd the cuttings, given freely, not quite as exciting as gathering your own, but a nice chat wiht gardener will ad to the memories when the "new" Viburnum flowerOnly garden update is the daffs I planted the other week, in wall baskets on my handrail, well I have shoots showing so looks like I won't need to borrow GB cat, now if only you could train it to get lily beetles & vine weevilsAny one noticed the price of seeds lately? I looked at some and over £3 is "normal" it seems. I don't "need" any but gourds are a possibility, and I'm a sucker for bargain different tomatoesOn a gloomy day, here's Morries show garden, how could anyone resist the temptations

I just buy on-line.T&M are doing an 89p offer at present, but half of what I chose didn't register, so I've not bothered. I'm hardly short of seeds!
That's a truly disgusting effort by your local Morries!
I'd boycott them altogether, were it not for their cheese and the fact there are no proper fishmongers. We can do cheese in the nearest market town, but it's still a 22 mile round trip and other things are unavailable there. Shopping here is like planning a military campaign!
I've noticed pp isn't about this week
.Hope she's OK, and Bertigo hasn't struck again. Sending virtual hugs over the border....

It's tipping down here and blowing. All containers overflowing.
Dusty I used to buy cheese in big town when I was there, portion it and freeze it.
Mostly it's cheddar here.
Phone not yet sorted and supposed to go into town today but it's market day and heavy rain so not sure if I can park.
I've bought a cheap big phone which still has a headphone jack. It will do well if I ever get to hospital because it covers everything. But I've lost the spare SIM so that's this afternoon job.
I'm also getting a second hand small one for daily use. Decided life was too short to worry.
Farway, yes there was a few tying up the fleece.
Only gardening was cutting another rose for indoors. It's so cheery. I'm going to stick them in the garden after to see if they'll root. Never any luck with rose cuttings but eventually one has got to take 😐
Bluey that church and autumn photo gorgeous 😊
And dog owners, did you know you can get glow in the dark balls for doggy play? Brilliant idea 👍I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

2p - where can I get glow in the dark balls for Stinky? He loves playing ball in the dark but I'm fed up with hanging around for ages when he misses one...
YBE - cat says it's too cold and wet thanks, and she'd like muntjac served to her in front of the log burner.4 -

Yes I get my seeds on line offers, just have to wait & seeSnap on Morries cheese & fish, mine usually has a reasonable selection and the cheese counter folks are very helpful, checking what is "out the back" for instance, same for fresh fish, and meatTheir plants used to be mostly good, but I assume staff cutbacks, no one in sole charge etc
I just Duck'd and the River has them, as do Pets at Home, take a bulging wallet with you !greenbee said:2p - where can I get glow in the dark balls for Stinky? I've just had my first Christmas card!
From my younger cousin, now widowed and getting on with life, flew out to Miami on Monday, picked up a cruise ship, Caribbean and then up the Amazon. It was African / Kenya safari this time last year, she has the right idea.Numerus non sum3 -
I'm with the cat Greenbee.
Got to go out for a charity quiz tonight and it's already been a carp day+++
Farway, don't get an Apple phone unless you want to pay for everything 😬
I'll post full findings when I've got out of the pickle I've found myself in.
But the Honour is cheap and easy. Has everything it's just huge 😲I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
