Funny you should say air rifle gb, that was my first thought. But I've made too much fuss now I think (I've been round there 3 times) for me to not get the blame... What I should have done was keep my mouth shut and let himself's bro in law come round and shoot them out but I thought I'd be a decent person and just ask nicely  I asked Lovely Neighbour would she go round and she said yes, but I don't think she has. She's in Croatia atm and a friend is house/dog sitting. Handsome has never been happier or quieter - she's a Dog Person, rather then a person with a dog like Lovely Neighbour :) Anyway, are you still suffering bright lights...?

Awww isn't that awful Dusty that you're auld and forgetful now and don't get round to jobs as efficiently as you used to ;) I would do the comfrey barrel thing, if I had comfrey and a barrel, but they're the wrong way on to me. My garden's N/NW facing and we mostly get gusterly sou'westerlys so it would end up over Lovely Neighbour. My 'plan' now is just wait for people to move in and realise how sore they are on the electric. Although I might try one more go, citing lack of hedgehogs and owls and stuff. Maybe. So are you sliding in to the mainstream or is R4 slipping towards the edge..? :no_mouth:

Ooh I'll keep my camera ready for the Blood Moon eclipse, ta Farway. I can't get a decent pic of the thing at the best of times but it doesn't stop me trying :) Imagine getting that chatty bot to apologise! Did it call you sir and everything? Ixnay on the lights being angled or less powerful bulbs put in there or motion sensor put on them - that's what I asked for. Apparently a big box of marks' cookies is not good enough :( You're welcome re the Jesus Gene, and long may you get use of it :) I'm happy to leave my Jesus figs now, they look kinda like yours so we might get fresh figs yet

Ah interviews not offers, that's a different thing pp. How long ago was the interview for the job you do want? Should you have heard by now or is it too early to ring them...? Congrats on finding accommodation :clapping:Shocking potholes galore on Skye - noted :) Tbh I've given up entirely and am looking at the Lakes instead... I don't know how long the builders will be in there, ages I suspect. The last one I was talking to was a lovely fellah, he was telling me it's a pig of a job cos the whole building is sinking at one end so there's not a square corner in the place. Instead of shoring up the building they're bodging doing the best they can to right it as they go along :grimace:

Less a slightly elevated ridge might be just the place to see the eclipse  Isn't it only supposed to be low in the sky when it gets eclipsed...? Not sure where I've got that from now. Lots of ladybirds of multiple species, is that that global broiling or summat? Renovation pruning is rejuvenating the trees so they're producing flowers which attracts the ladybirds who pollenate them and then you've a goodly harvest of apples. A virtuous circle indeed :innocent:

It was George and Calum on BG last night  Probably no actual news for proper gardeners but it was a good watch. The 'lets go look at community gardens' section was in Maryhill and had a woman on it - big glasses on her - who was just thrilled at everything. Sunshine, picking + eating fresh fruit, taking strawberry runners home, making jam. One of those people that is utterly and deeply happy, she was a joy to watch

OT 11'c currently with a high of 20' to come, they say. No rain or wind nor nothing, just still and mild and pleasant. Lovely. Might nip to our little oh-and-a-few-plants centre to see if they've any more good compost.

Hiya Poppy, yes still around and reading.
Gammy leg is still gammy, can't do much so not a lot to report.
it's rained lots and we have 2 dry days so everyone is washing anything that needs to be washed.
And clearing up the mess from desperate plants.

Autumn has well and truly set in 2 months early but the colours are wonderful with the sun still high in the sky.

Have spring wisteria blooming as well as the winter witch hazel.
I saw the little autumn cyclamen for sale and thought of Bluey so keep your eyes open. So tempted to get some more but at £2 each it's a bit pricey.
Was very taken by a tiny,  pink anemone. If it's still there tomorrow it may be mine 😉

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Supposed to be a warm day, not raining anyway.
Farway I looked into summer pruning dates last year (needed to remove watershoots especially after my too vigorous renovation pruning  :D and realised I'd left it a bit late) - conclusion was it was better to do it late rather than not at all, as long as leaves were still green on the trees... and I've had regrowth too, doing it earlier...
Sounds like you're going through the learning curve I went through a few years back, very dependent on local area & the tree, especially given your location
From what I've heard, it's been a great year everywhere for apples
Regrowth, FWIW I remove that at one leaf joint, in vain hope I'll get a spare “freebie” fruit bud

Well done on the Pound bargains, Dusty. I had a similar bargain, pre covid, from Wilko, which also gives a clue on how long ago.
I found not only do they quickly fly off shop shelves, they retain their flying ability once on your window sill.  :s

Commiserations on the fig growth, FWIW my canna skills are still missing, no sign of a flower, so doubtful this year, I think time is running out. Maybe I should oik them out & plant figs?  >:)

If weather, and body, permit, I hope to get out there & tie in the new blackberry & boysenberry canes. The recent rain has given them a kick up the growth bum, so need tying before any damage done.
If I find a suitable shoot, I'll peg it down for a new plant.

These are my Champion apples, still hanging on the tree, but a lovely apple which keeps, rats permitting, they ate them last year.  :'(

Just refreshed, looking forward to BG now, I like happy enthusiasts

Sorry your lag is still gammy 2P, I know just how frustrating lack of mobility can be

one of my seeds bloomed , the lidl ones I just threw on the soil, back at the beginning of summer.
Farway my nasturtium I got 2 one front and one back from those seeds and I've had a few more flowers on those. Cornflower got 2 stems also.
Plus a butterfly that didn't fly away.

My pots are still OK, not as much flowers now but had a great display. Plus the phlox which is recent buy, must decide where to put it .

I knew there was someone I'd missed - yes, hope W_M is okay too. YBE, have you heard from her??

I obviously wasn't quite with it when I was reading this morning, as I thought I was reading YBE's post, but it was Dusty's. I was going to congratulate her on learning how to add text to photos :D  The trays were a bargain anyway.

YBE, the job I wanted is not to be - I got a sorry but email yesterday afternoon and didn't even get an interview. It actually made me smile, because I applied for the same job a couple of years ago and did get offered an interview. I had to cancel (I know I sound like a serial interview canceller :D ) because I think I had covid at the time.

The Lake District is gorgeous - whereabouts are you going?? We've been a few times and my DH actually proposed to me there <3 The first time we went he said it reminded him of Scotland. I found out this morning that we have to drive through those nightmare potholes on Skye on our way home from our October hols.

I'm glad you're (mostly) okay, twopenny. If the wee anemone is going to bring you joy, then buy it :)

Your Champion apple photos are brilliant, Farway. Hope you get to eat them before the rats find them.

wort, it's rubbish when you have the lurgy :(  Lying around eating rubbish sounds good to me though.

No idea what your white flower is, but it's very pretty. And your pots are looking great.

It's a bit of a nothing day today - cloudy and still.

Curtains are getting closed earlier, candles are being lit. Autumn is coming... ;)
