Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Is the site piggin' about this morning? It's having a good long think before letting me scroll up and down. Gawd, this'll be a properly short post as I'm doing it from memory!
Your Pilgrim progs 2p, where were they on cos that sounds very watchable. Please don't say Fletnix or summat cos we only have plain telly. Was there a Solomon's Seal or a Love Lies Bleeding in one of your pics..?Hopefully it'll all pull through now the weather's broken. Cig butt for scale
I love a beach pic Dusty, yours looked calm and mildToms looked yummy yum yum too, what I wouldn't give...
You've half pound pears Farway bluddy nora! I liked your traffic-light toms, and the nasturtiums (?) wiggling through them.
Christ this is agony - I just tried scrolling up and the whole page went white for a minute Grrrrr.
No sign of WorkingMum or Less or Lunatic but I see you're still out there taff. Pitch in if something astonishing happens won't you
I’ve upset OMM, again. When I took Big Boss Man up a coffee he thanked me for coming in on so many Fridays and asked if I wanted Tuesday off so I said “aye I will if you don't mind”OMM said it was too short notice and couldn’t be accommodated and who else was off already? “Couldn’t tell ya, BBM offered and I said yes”. Silence… “Oh.” Silence…. And then the phone rang so I answered it. She must hate me
OT lovely and samey out there. 13'c currently with a high of 19' to come. Cloudy all day 'til about 1900 is when the sun will come outStill dry though, and no rain forecast for the next 10 days, possibly.
They're cracking on with the flats though, they've stupidly bright lights all over now and I'm gonna have to say something I think. I struggled to find anything useful on our council's website (shocker) about how bright lights can be or how high they're allowed to be, so I'm gonna trot round next week and see if I can talk the fellahs into doing something about it. This pic doesn't do it justice tbh but it'll give yous a flavour -
That was at a half four in the morning, they're just permanently on. That's not right is it? Any help or tips or websites appreciated please. Before I go out and spend silly money on not-as-effective-as-the-label-says black out curtains and blinds. Oh to be back in the good old days when I thought the street light was bad enough... *sigh*I had a hen who could count her own eggs - she was a mathemachicken.3 -
Those lights are ridiculous YBE, I’d try the housing board here for advice (and let me know as I have neighbours who have mounted an outside light on the top of their gable and it shines into everyone’s garden… no one is prepared to talk to them about it, but as it shines into my house I’m going to have to say something.
eta - found this https://www.cpre.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/light-pollution-as-a-statutory-nuisance-a-how-to-guide.pdf
i hope you’re making good use of all the money you’re getting for those extra Fridays. It would be a pity to spend it on blackout blinds and curtains.4 -
I missed your post last night, 2p. Wow! Your garden is dry, but I bet many of the plants will recover if you just keep giving them the odd can and a little grey water. We can't be far from a change in the flow of dry wind now.
They're saying westerlies before the end of next week.
Yes, the beach was Instow. It's estuarine and I wouldn't swim there, but that area's good for quiet, non-commercialised activities, dog walking etc.
Here are a few photos from our walk yesterday. There was some method in our madness, because it wasn't one I'd attempt at other times of the year, or even in a wet summer, due to some severe bogginess on the tops. We got to over 1500' and it was obvious from the number of bridges and boardwalks what it's normally like! And we still had these to contend with..."Yes, we're coming right through where you lot are standing!" They were grumpy, but all, except No46, moved aside. At the top, we could see Dunkery Beacon (about 200' higher) and the valley of the infant River Exe.Then we got a little lost, but corrected things before going too far. We also met a few sheep like these, which I couldn't ID.The downward bit looked easy, but it was harder than going up. Further down, in the combe on the right of the picture, we both fell into deep holes concealed by grasses and bracken etc. Usually, it's just me who does that.Eventually, we emerged through woodland to find the river path closed, but I was happy to use the road by then!4 miles? My erse! Whoever put that walk together, describing it as 'moderate,' was having a laugh, but maybe they were extremely fit, and/or not in their mid-70s. We'll be sticking to lower ground for the next one.OT: Today, it's supposed to be a few degrees warmer, but clouding-up in the late morning and afternoon. No chance of rain, though. Mrs Dusty and I will be staying home, hiding from the crowds and exploring the apple orchard. Yesterday, Mrs D found a perfect apple to go with the blackberries we have, so there may be some peeling and freezing going on. I've been watering my Clone 20 Bramley in the hope of a first crop this year, so I'll be having a look at that.3 -
Bluey, AI says you have a clear course of action in the case of intrusive lighting:
- Talk to your neighbour:
- If the intrusive light comes from a neighbour's property, the simplest solution is often to talk to them tactfully.
- Suggest they move, shield, or adjust the light, such as adding a motion sensor to a security light.
- You and they can consider if the light constitutes a statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
If talking to the neighbour doesn't work, contact your local council's environmental health department.- Explore solutions with the council:
If the council finds the light is a nuisance, they can take action, such as issuing an abatement notice to the owner.Consider legal action:If the owner fails to comply with an abatement notice, you can take legal action in the Magistrates' Court.
Not sure about the last one, but being 'in the business' you might know about costs, chances of recovering them etc!2 -
Thanks both. I'll have a good read of your link gb before I decided what to do. Frustratingly himself doesn't see the issue, but I'm having to close the upstairs doors to keep the light out and it makes it too warm and stuffy for sleep. The issue is it's the builders that are still in there, and they're not the owners so I don't know if the usual 'neighbour' rules apply Dusty. Hopefully gb's link will give me parameters cos I don't want to kick up a fuss when technically it's all perfectly legal and fine.I had a hen who could count her own eggs - she was a mathemachicken.2

Good luck with that Bluey. I had the same with school security lights last place and tennis court lights this. We fought on legit grounds but made no difference.
It's who you know not what you know.
Perhaps time to use your job connections 😉
I now view it that it saves on my electric bill.
Pilgrim is iPlayer.
I was looking up nick hewer on a search when I saw he was in it and went down a pleasurable rabbit hole. Wasn't sure if for me it was just being part of a walking talking group vicariously as I miss doing that.
Dusty dunkery clear as day from there. I hope the heather is still out when the tourists depart and I can enjoy it.
Love instow beach. I'm told Hockins is great ice cream. And if Johns deli is still there, the pasties are amazing!
Nowt much on today in gardening except watering. I'm tempted to grow only Eriginon What's it. But last summer all rain and cool.
So clearing out the garage and finishing off house stuff. Will have to dig out some podcasts to keep my brain alive!
Oh edit: it's darn chilly here morning and evening but hot in the day. Very Mediterranean. I'd say autumn was coming early but it can't be, spring was so late 🤔I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

A lot to catch up on but makes a nice start to the day, and I've two BGs & A GW to catch up with as well, a gardening Bank HolidayBack to early start this morning, up by six and raring to go.Weather is sunny but nicely fresh & coolCracked on with feed & watering the front pots, now my back is back to only hurting a bit I thought I should do it "just in case" the back goes ricked againYBE, yes it is nasturtiums wiggling through my hanging toms, those nasturtiums are super-duper, ideal spot wiggling along the front. The cabbage white caterpillars are just starting to eat them now, which is fine by me, part of my nature friendly garden. They remove all the leaves, but leave the flowers & the seeds drop for next year, caterpillars turn into butterflies next year, rinse & repeat.Your lights Blue, it could just be the workmen are unaware and perhaps a word in right lughole could get them angled down more?My neighbours love lights, the garden type that make it look like a pub garden, not bad enough to keep me awake though, just tacky IMO.However, they are very good and helpful neighbours, and if tacky lights are the price to pay, I'm happy to pay it.
Good walk there, Dusty, and looks great. I was never a big walker, but I do miss the ability to wander if I fancied it.Dustyevsky said:4 miles? My erse! Hope it works well.I've still got to sort my picked apples out for freezing.Liked the cyclamen 2P, one thing I'd like to grow but never do. Just a shame about the brown garden, but it's been a struggle everywhere this year. I've seen some large mature trees that are obviously gasping and may not make it.Thanks for the T & M link Dusty, I've not had that offer, so I'll have a look this weekend, thinking about ###%$£ dahlia seedsNow it's pear time, they are starting to smell ripe, could this be my reward after ten long years, hope your Clone 20 is quicker DustyHere are some with 50P for scale, non-smoker so fag butt not availableHere's one on the scales, 252g!Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens3
