Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Something ‘right’ turned up when I went to the beach instead of the interview and had it all to myself 😎 it’s only a wee beach, but it’s sandy and has gorgeous views. I got there just in time to see the Isle of Mull ferry going past too… 💙
That’s a lovely photo of the Crocosmia (auto correct wants to change it to crocodile 😳).
And good and bad news from your meeting - I hope more good than bad, although it sounds like you’ve got things up your sleeve anyway.I think you’re right with the interview nerves waking me up, wort. I still feel it was the right decision to cancel though - absolutely no regrets 😊
I love the pic of the Jersey Tiger, Farway. I think twopenny (??) linked to something about them and I remember seeing a BBC article saying that sightings should be reported (if you can be bothered).
Im so tempted to just buy an elderberry - I’ll have to look at the one you’ve ordered for your DD.
A couple more pics from the beach… the forecast was correct with sunny spells and feeling mild, but there was a big dark squally looking ball of cloud in the distance…'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Those are stunning photos Poppy 💗 so wish that was me on the beach all to myself.
I might have to hobble down to the one I used to go to for some r n r. Doesn't have a view like that though.
Tried some blackberries here and there and I reckon the ones down the road are as good as any. At least they are soft with only a little flavour but you take what you can.
New experiment. I've watered one half of the garden as well as possible considering it just runs off.
I'll do the other half tomorrow and so on.
I need to level the bed as it's on a slope. I have the boards iif I can cut them. Annoying as the duff leg means I need a man in to do all the little jobs that are half done.
Grey and cold here, around 14c with a north wind but it's a relief tbh. No rain forecast still.
I can't flip pages on my tablet but following everyone news.
Which reminds me to dip into FB . Having had 2 people run into my car when its stationary I parked for the hairdresser on a quiet slow road and came back to find road closed. Someone had flipped an Audi onto its roof just a couple of feet away. Roof scrunched to seat height. No one was hurt but 60yr old guy in the police car . So many people not concentrating.
Just hoping that was my 3rd.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Ooh, I bet it was a shock to see that, twopenny. Glad it missed your car though.
I too picked a handful of brambles when I was out for a quick walk yesterday - silly me forgot to taste them before I washed and froze them thoughI'm sure they'll be nice. I'll do a proper forage today - I didn't have time yesterday.
It really was bliss on the beach - a couple of tourists were arriving just as I was leaving, so I timed it just right.
Hmm, no interviews on the horizon and yet I'm still awake ridiculously early. I'm still waiting to hear from Monday's debacle interview, plus another outstanding issue, so I'm guessing it's just too much information overload whizzing around my brain
Talking of whizzing, Wisley was featured in a programme I was watching the other night - it looks really nice there and I can see why you keep going back, Farway. Any more trips planned??
It's looking like a nice day today (or so the forecast tells me because it's still pitch black outside) sunny spells and light winds and not too warm - perfect for doing a bit of brambling...

Deffo seems the right move to have cancelled the interview pp considering the relief you felt
Maybe you don't need a job at all if you don't need a wee convertible or a boatplane, then you can spend all day at that beautiful beach and looking round Oh And A Few Plants centers
#SubversivesRUs. Fingers crossed you have better luck there for your brambling
Not OCD wort, you've got Proper Standards, same as me. And @ArbitraryRandom iirr
Mmmmmm pork pie Farway, was it good meat and proper pastry and heavenly? That's a lovely Jersey Tiger pic, they really are a little wonder aren't they. That looks like a fab present for DD, does it come with a free watering can...?
Good to hear you've got a Plan B Dusty, so the Poacher-turned-Gamekeeper wasn't a total waste of time and money then? I wonder if Sir CS invented his buggy now it'd be better received... now we're all worried about our carbon footprint and emissions and stuff. Funny you should say about dementia, I'm sure there was something about that scrolling along the bottom of my screen (but I didn't read it). Love your crocosmia, and the diddy blue things behind itIt's got a look of a freesia about it, does it smell good?
I reckon that's your third 2p, you've enough on without another thing to deal with. Mid-life crisis drivers are a pain in the hole  Mind, round here they buy ugly fat big expensive motorbikes and go wrecking about the place and over the bridge - you can hear them for miles. Hopefully your masterplan for watering will work rightlyWhat I did when we had that hot spell was go round with a watering can just to dampen the soil first, then go round again and give them a bit more. That worked ok when the ground was baked solid, and I'm on clay so it really was tough
Speaking of SuckItUps - I'm sure I read somewhere (on here probably) that if you want a new hoover you should buy one that does wet'n'dry. I know they rounded down all the power in them a few years ago because Brekshit/global boiling etc, but they had to leave the power in the wet'n'dry ones for the wet bit to work. So even if you only use it dry it'll have a proper amount of poke about it. Or buy one online from abroad where they don't tolerate such nonsense. I'd start with France
OT more of the same, happily. Cool at 13'c and a high of 18' to come but the breeze will keep the top off that. Cloudy all day but we might get a bit of sun later this evening
OffT RIP non-fab Gerry Anderson. 11 years gone but you’re still missed.I had a hen who could count her own eggs - she was a mathemachicken.6 -
Oh, you live in a gorgeous place, pp! I know this one isn't bad, but my Scottish genes give my heart a flutter every time you post views like those!
In another life.....
It's just as well you don't love your wee car 2p, if people keep trying to destroy it. You don't think its pinkishness is something to do with it?When we were wherever we were the other day, I looked at the big wagons around ours in the car park and thought how tatty it looked, but then I remembered depreciation, and the fact that we actually own ours.
It may have been me Bluey who told you the wet & dry versions in the Henry clan have more powerful motors. I'm not sure if you'll get better abroad, though. It was complying with EU regs that emasculated our Henry in the first place!Judging by how many of us are 'far-right' now, I think there could be a good market for a new model painted like the flag of St George with a 2500 watt motor, and called Tommy!
MSE seems to be only part functional this morning, so I can't quote, but no the Solfatere crocosmia isn't scented, unfortunately, Bluey. And yes, we have a Plan B which has evolved recently as a result of the dire economic situation, which may get much worse in '26. Of course, this being a money-orientated site we can't talk economics here, but my crystal ball is showing me an inauspicious convergence of various cyclical phenomena. In other words, all of them deliberately vague(!) it might be wiser to hold onto things with intrinsic value, than trust in promises, or magic beans, like Jack did. It's all a Panto, y'know.Nobody knows for sure what's around the corner, and I certainly didn't yesterday when next door's gardener turned up to cut the hedges between us. This meant going into hedging mode a month earlier than expected. As our Bosch trimmer battery has just packed-up again...I didn't run over it with the car this time!....we slipped him a few bob to do our side.
As you can see, there's not much flowering now, except Rozanne! The grey day contained just enough rain for me to have a short bonfire too, and to dig some accumulated carp out of the stream where Mr Canute blocked it. It's actually damn good mulch!Gerry Anderson....I'm guessing not the Thunderbirds one. They were one of the better things to come from the 60s. Not the story lines, which were thinly disguised propaganda, but the effects and the music.OT: A sunnier day today and warm without going OTT. It felt like autumn this morning when I released the hens. 9c in pyjamas was definitely chilly! Dew and cobwebs in abundance.

I'm trying to persuade my DH to retire early, YBE, then I won't bother getting another job. I'd have to forego the wee convertible and boat plane though.
I've finally had the 'sorry but' email from Monday's interview this morning - no surprise thereAlso some relief that I didn't get it, which says a lot.
I think I broke MSE when I was posting at silly 'o' clock, Dusty. I was trying to post some photos and the site went a bit weird - something about the server.
Your beech hedge looks in good condition, even if it's a bit of a monster. I pass a fledgling beech hedge on one of my walks and I've considered planting one as I like the leaves. One of the many things that'll never get done...
The sun is trying to come out, but it was very grey when I woke up for the second time today.'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
The pics I was trying to post earlier…
A wee handful of brambles from yesterday, the last of the bonus tatties (the white ones were a surprise as I assumed they’d all be red - I think they might be Maris Pipers) and a wee moth that was in the bathroom last night…

Oh wow! I've never seen one like that and I used to paint moths for a living.
How beautiful is that 😍I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

A bit later today, I think all the restless nights finally caught up, and I slept on & on, feeling much better for it, and the sun's out as well.I've just realised it's Bank Holiday weekend, thought it was next week. Oh well, makes no différance when retired, except for crowds to avoid.Great pics as usual PP, the ferry one would make good tourist brochure, misty mountains in the backgroundI'm biased, but go on, go on, buy an elderberry. The link I gave, he has national collection and was on GW, I bet if asked he could suggest an ideal one for your requirements, environment, intended use, shape, colour, fruit, flowers etc.Once I stared looking, it's surprising the variety there are, not just the white blobby thing in field.Wisley, no more visits planned yet, we try to avoid school hols and all the kids, plenty of space but prefer quieter times, and it can get very hot there, often gets the hottest in UK spot.YoungBlueEyes said:Mmmmmm pork pie Farway, was it good meat and proper pastry and heavenly? And Rozanne doing well, as is my one in DP border.Today I hope to at last make a start on pear pruning, get some done before back starts anywayThe red pears do look good, I must find something to do with them, easy that is booze free, so pickled in Brandy etc is outtwopenny said:Oh wow! How beautiful is that 😍Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
I laughed out loud at that wee picture, Farway
I'm guessing Wisley must be quite sheltered if it's a UK hot spot. I don't blame you for giving it a miss during the school holidays though.
I'll definitely be buying an elderberry and have made a note of the supplier's website, thank you
Mmm, I haven't had a decent pork pie in years. I used to buy one years ago from a butcher who made them on the premises - they were still warm and had lovely runny jelly inside, which probably sounds disgusting, but they were absolutely delicious. Proper pastry too.
twopenny, the moth was just a tiny wee thing, probably the size of my thumbnail.
What a nice job that must have been, painting moths.'A watched potato will never chit'...5
