twopenny said:My camera has come out in sympathy with Farways computer and refuses to connect to the laptop. It may be time to bite the bullet and change it. Trouble is I can't find one with a viewfinder now and I really want that. The camera I mostly use has a viewfinder, and so do many other older models:It's chunky, but it does the job.

I love your West Country story 2p
Restores your faith a little eh. What's that growing up your cane pyramid..? The leaves are a lovely shade of green
Those are fab river pics, I can almost hear the robin trilling along with the water rushing over the riverbed
Sounds like your garden's a lot happier now Farway. You've reminded me I need to lift my rasp buckets out of the berry patch and feed+water them. The only thing that's doing any good is the wineberry, naturally  Lucky the Norwegian holiday brochures were a bit dear, we might get a photo of canna now
Pp Aldi+Lidl do all kinds of choc, and there deffo was a dark choc+coffee one. I'll have to see if I can find you a link. I used to like the orange+almond one, god that was delish. And the dark choc+rasp one, ditto.

Is there much work to do in their new house..?
OT Anybody looking for rain it's up here. Well it was yesterday, it started about 1030ish and didn't stop 'til nearly bedtime. The ground was definitely ready for it, everything was starting to suffer in all that heat. Dry out there this morning though, and that's it for rain now 'til we get 1mm on Friday. They say.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Thanks Dusty. Tempting at that price.
They have new ones of that model but no viewfinder. They are a bit bulky for my hands makes me doubtful. Perhaps I'll go in and try for size then think about this.
But this was second hand and started playing up after a year. Bit annoyed after what I payed but it would be perfect if it wasn't failing.
Rain Bluey! I had photos of our parched landscape but accidentally deleted them. I seem to be all to pot at the moment.
Have a good day. Off to try and make the most of an early start.
Chilly here and still dry.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Those are super riverside photos 2p!
Just having the opportunity to sit and stare is something to be grateful for, these days.
If I recall correctly, your Drs surgery even made it to a brief mention in the Commons. Naturally, the shortcomings were denied. As I've said before, we're fairly happy with provision here, though it's often necessary to chase for appointments and show flexibility. For example, Mrs Dusty and I have had those in Exeter, Tiverton, Credition, Okehampton, Barnstaple, and Bideford within the past 2 years, in addition to the local ones. There were also the knee op ones in Shepton Mallet, 80 miles away. Without a car, we'd not have had the same level of service. And speaking of the car, it passed scraped-through its MoT yesterday, though the lower ball joint gaiters are perished. They've been helpfully put in the advisory section, so their renewal can be in a less expensive month. The garage man made the usual comment: "It's a lot better than it looks!"

OT Anybody looking for rain it's up here.Thought you would get the Ted Ross reference, and yes, the Matrix was being kind to me yesterday, apart from delivering some horrendous wind (of the external kind!) It cheered me a little that the blustery conditions seemed just as bad a few hundred feet lower at DD2's house, and worse at the GC. They have fantabulous views, which sell thousands of lunches, but despite £millions recently spent, there's no shelter belt at all! The outdoor manager, normally an affable guy, was in a grumpy mood and didn't help us to load up. His plants were flying off the benches, left, right and centre....
hence the damaged one I didn't want.
DD2's house is getting a new kitchen & bathroom before they move in properly. So far, they've skimmed some swirly ceilings, de-anaglypta-ed the walls, and prepped ready for painting. Yesterday, we were waiting for the bathroom to arrive on a pallet, so we could unwrap items and put them in the garage out of the 'rain,' which didn't occur. The original bathroom's gone and everything's capped-off, but there's a working downstairs cloakroom, and they're on Starlink. Priorities!
OT: The wurzels in the pub at Exeter have revised today's weather, so there's now no rain forecast. At least the destructive wind is also off their menu.I've to fetch chicken food and bedding before long, so it's off to the Varmer's Store.
If there's time, in between watering, I'll pot-on the dahlias.
Today's photo is a plant which neds no introduction and reliably self-sows:"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8 -
The rain was here yesterday too, same as YBE , just as we had arranged a walk, so we diverted to small GC For lunch .I spotted a gaura I fancied on the way in but forgot to go back for it as it poured down we didn’t go back out into the rain.
Dusty those plants were good prices, wish I could drive and get back to the nursery to see what the new plants they have now.
Ybe looking at the hydrangea close up. I’d definitely cut that stem off and stick the plant in solitary.
The standard olive trees I rescued haven’t lost any more leaves so hopeful I can keep them going. Very undecided on where to put them for the best spot.
I’m a recent rozanne acquirer, a cutting from dsis, a couple of years ago. My other dsis gave me the others, 3 different pink and a white. I love the white and pale pink but they definitely don’t flower as long as the others. Spotted Alan Titchmarch on Insta saying the pink one I have is one n you can cut and reflower the other pink one is one to leave. I tend to just chop as I think but it was interesting as he really chopped it back to the ground .
Ybe I can’t say too much about dd and the house saga, but very annoying as she’s in rented and been paying almost 2 years rent whilst this has been going on, whilst the house owned by family has been sat empty. Not the family stopping her moving but the solicitors.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Sun & warmth back today, yesterday's wind was a killer but no damage seenDusty, helpful folk, there are a lot about, just the rotters seem to crop up when least wanted. No way of knowing, but maybe a touch of Karma & doing unto others at work?Good news on MOT, mine is due next month, any problems will be age related, certainly won't be down to mileageI think I'll treat it to an oil & filters change as well, not been done since pre Covid, and with my petrol in diesel heart stopping episode I left it in case I had to junk the car.2P, cameras, I go second hand older ones, which is fine if not wanting full bells & whistles, may not suit as you mention hand size, but older DSLRs are good valueAs are older, but lighter & smaller, micro 4/3rds, which usually come with image stabilisation, very handy for wobbly folk like meI'm with you, love the viewfindersCould you just replace your one with same, used, model, may be cheaper now it's even older model? There are good 2008 cameras under £50 that were $800 newCan you remove the memory card & use a USB card reader perhaps?YoungBlueEyes said:Sounds like your garden's a lot happier now Farway. Thank for the camera advice. I did use a USB card thingy. Last time that didn't connect either but last night it did.
I guess the laptop is on its last legs as well.

Phew, finally caught up, busy lately, and away over long (VERY hot) weekend, where I spotted this display...(and, yes, the grass behind was that colour!)Saw a good number number of Gatekeepers at our destination, where there are usually only Meadow Browns, one resting on a bramble next to a gate, but I sadly couldn't manage to get the angle for a good pic...Returned home to cool and damp, and breezy, weather; sunny this morning and we had our own butterfly explosion, mainly Red Admirals and Peacocks (and the ubiquitous whites
)
Also having a welcome courgette/marrow explosion - in part inspired by Dusty's comment about courgette in polytunnel - one experimental plant in greenhouse pot has been cropping for at least a couple of weeks, outdoor ones now doing their thing... Squashes are still catching up slowly though, didn't like cool nights and wind when first planted... And toms are starting to colour...

How lucky/lovely that your DD's new house is near a GC, Dusty, although that could be very dangerous. I love lupins too and always have lupin envy when lovely neighbour's lupins are out.
Lovely photos, twopenny. I too can hear the water bubbling and the breeze blowing on the robin picFab damselfly and flutter by pics.
I can't believe I forgot to look at the chocolate in Lidl yesterday, YBEI was even in the sweetie aisle buying some Susie Snakes for DH
I did have my hands full though because I hate those pull along baskets they have in Lidl (they should be banned imo)...
I'd heard of Gaura, but had to google what it looked like, wort. Very nice, I can see why you wanted it.
What a lovely turn of phrase "vomited a vigorous cane" is, FarwayShame about the wind damage to your courgettes and toms, but exciting about the Shoo Fly flower.
I can smell that Lily from here, Less
I'm up early with a headacheI was at the hairdresser yesterday (for 3 hours!!) so am hoping the headache is not Bertigo thinking about making an appearance. Happy with my hair anyway, it was long overdue a cut and colour, just feel a bit skint now.
Hair appointment was timely, because I've been offered an interview next week. It's for a job I've never done before, but it would get me out of the house. I'll see what I think when I get there, I can always say no if they offer it to me.
OT - looks okay to me, although that's not what the BBC website is saying - pic to follow...'A watched potato will never chit'...7
