Awful weather - typical Brits talk

YBE it’s a Rhododendron, and it usually flowers twice a year, sometimes the frost catches some buds but always gives a good show. The clematis isn’t a Montana it’s an evergreen with a waxy green Ivy looking leaf. I googled and early sensation looks similar🤔 it doesn’t need cutting back like other types. I got it in one of those 3 for so much offers.
WM clematis have many types and flower at different times of the year , I’m sure there’s even winter ones. The trick is remembering which need cutting back when 🫣 TBH I tend to forget and it just means I have spindly growth at the bottom with flowers around the top.
Glad you both enjoyed the day out, I enjoy a rum and black when the weather is chilly.
You are all doing well with your seedlings can’t wait to see the fruits of your labours.
Tuesday was a decent day had an hours walk then spent a few hours gardening, mainly tidying and chopping. Yesterday we got the rain and it tuned really chilly, had to take the cat for his booster at vets, which he complained about all the way there and back.
Today I’ve got the washing out , cloudy with sunny spells so far, but still chilly.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Pp calla aethiopica is an outdoor hardy one. Usually find supermarkets don’t let you know the species ,if it’s in flower now I would suspect it’s indoor, but worth a shot when the weather warms up maybe.
oh 2 p I hope you are healing ok, sounds like a nasty tumble.Farway I love pea shoots, but not sure I could be bothered either.
Dusty that’s a lovely pelagonium . Pretty colours.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
wort said:Pp calla aethiopica is an outdoor hardy one. Usually find supermarkets don’t let you know the species ,if it’s in flower now I would suspect it’s indoor, but worth a shot when the weather warms up maybe. That's what I have, but it's only hardy in the sense that it's perennial, it's still frost susceptible.edited bit - realised I should have added more infoThe bulbs underground are hardy, mine [ and my mothers] were in the corner of a garden, mine in the front, hers in the back[ in South Wales] The bulbs themselves I mulch occasionally when I remember and they have slowly bulked up. If the leaves start growing but then suffer a hard frost, they will rot and die back but they will grow again. If you protect the leaves a bit, they probably won't rot. Mine are in a half barrel [no bottom] so they tend to think it's warmer than it actually is, so pop up, get frosted, die and repeat. Because I forget to cover them completely usually. Doesn't seem to affect them much, they still grow again, there may be slightly less flowers but hey ho.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi4

Thanks Taff, there’s a front garden near here that has them all over in summer, and until I saw them year after year I didn’t realize there were some that could be outside here.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5

Beautiful blue sky & sunshine, a big contrast to yesterday. I never did get to pottering yesterday, too dismal with a chilly wind.Looks like today will be an ideal pottering day, I've only three chillies to pot on. Plus water the Golden Delicious in a pot. It's the only apple that has not flowered this year, poor old thing, really needs TLC.Probably twinned with a Cox that appears on this forumFound my long-lost beetroot seeds, now nicely germinated with long red legs
,. Oh well, I'll stick them outside in their cells & it's either Norway or buck up sharpish.
The tuberous begonias I'm trying to start into growth seem very reluctant, still wizened old things pining for the fjords.I'll persevere, but I can see them being stuffed into any old pot to get on deciding if living, or dyingIn hindsight, I would have been better waiting & buying young begonia plug plants from GC for similar cost. Something to try to remember for next year.Talking of pelargoniums, a few of last year's cheapos from Morries have come through the winter and are now showing signs of fresh growth. Only about three, but it's something, I've trimmed off the dead bits and looking all set.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
Just piping in to say there is winter clematis.
I have one called Jingle bells. Needs to be grown as a clump on its own really to show off the flowers.
I have a photo of my neighbours which is what got me going. Will try to post tonight.
All the ones I've seen are small white flowers but it's only a matter of time.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

From my tablet.... can't find way to adjust image from this 😬I've no idea about tablets, but can't you resize it on the page, like I did with my mouse? Or can you add a mouse to a tablet? It still comes out normal size in a new window. This is proof it's been it's been balmy up there on the coast."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Ooh that's a verry pretty tulip+sitooterie setup there Dusty, and is one of those pots daffs? Lovely
I like the colours on your bathroom geranium (?), and the pot it's in, and the cool blue tiles you have
Belated happy burfday to MrsD too, even if it was non-profitable. Lego flower kits! Shouldn't really be surprised they got in on the act, the silk/plastic ones are bladdy everywhere so why not get a slice of that moolah market.
Gawd 2p you're not fit to be let out! Liquid breakfast was itGood it's only bruises and a bit of a scrape though *phew* you haven't time to be laid up with all the stuff you do. Looking forward to seeing the place I want to live in... Hurray for lots of wildflowers and fields full of babby lambs, it does your heart good to see it
Dunno if I'd want Al/i Paca any nearer though, s/he looks like it wants to spit in your face like camels do. Dirty beasts.
I wonder if it's a dear do to get your car converted to run on chip fat... You're right about the smell Farway. We used to go dog-walking (a big crowd of us) and one of the fellahs was a virtue-signaller who converted his ...moggy?... van to run on used oil. It did smell like your kitchen the next morning when you've had the chip pan on. I never asked him about it cos he'd only have told me, and I didn't wanna spend more time than necessary with him. We called him Creeping Jesus cos he'd just suddenly appear behind you out of hedgerows and river banks... even his dog was weird *shudder* #Shawshank them beetroots, they'll either live or they won't
Ooh a rhododendron that flowers twice a year wortSeems I need clematis-cutting-back lessons - I've one I'm training up my fence, and the top is lovely and healthy looking but the bottom few inches look like a beige threadworm
Apricots 2p!Glad to see it survived alright, I remember you being worried about it. And look at all your daisies
I need to get me erse in gear and have a proper go in my garden this weekend before it gets away from me. I’ve my tom seeds to prique out at the very least. My fruit trees are looking good though, lots of blossoms and healthy looking. Not the Plum Crazy one though, I think he's having a sulk after all the messing about with it I did so now he's leaving it ‘til the last minute for badness
OT the sun did try a bit but it’s clouded over now. Nice and mild and calm though at 8’ so I’ll take it. Domestic nonsense (on a Friday) and food shopping to do. I’ll come back later with some life-sized pics, this post is long enough ha haa!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7
