Nice to see you back, Dusty
YBE, I think you mean stoor?? Not sure, as that means dirt or dust.
Yes, the tomato smell is when you handle or brush against the plant - I love it.
I thought that plant was a Dahlia, btw. Annoying that you were expecting a different colour though.
twopenny, I used last year's Aldi compost for the tatties. I used that to initially plant, with a handful of BFB and for earthing up I used the compost out of the old wooden container that was here when we moved in. I only earthed up three or four times though because the foliage got too big. I gave them some Tomorite maybe three or four times too. They were in the bags for just less than 3 months and neglected for much of that time
taff, I never thought to whizz up rosemary to make a powder. I'll try that next time I'm doing roasties.
Farway, is your Hibiscus an outdoor plant?? My Dad had one in his conservatory and as far as I know it never flowered - I really like the colour of the one you have.
Working_Mum, those flowers are gorgeous and I love the tray too. I'll have to nip back to have a nosy at your kettle, range and parquet flooring
That's a good pea haul, AR. How do you make the leek and onion sauce?? Another one who had salmon for dinner the other day - sprinkled with Cajun spice and oven baked in foil. I would normally make braised leek to go with it (which is why I'm asking about the leek and onion sauce because that sounds nice) but we had it with salad this time.
It's been pouring down today and pretty miserable all day. The sun is out now though (a bit bloomin' late). Thundery showers expected tomorrow.'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Good to see you back Dusty.
My latest garden acquistion:

Aye clematis is happy enough Farway, just annoying that it's not blue like it is in the (faded now) label. I need to get it planted mind but I don't know where.. My garden is all gappy and soily but that's space for stuff to grow into, it's not actual gaps. I've got a pyracantha that Posh Friend told me to hoik out because they're such thugs, but I quite like it and it'll be an orangey berry one so it's stopping.
I probably do mean stoor pp, the smell the rain lifts out of the dust and muck on the road. I'll take that over tom leaves any day
I'm another one likes the sound of your leek and onion sauce ArbI do leeks with pork usually but it would be a nice change to have it with salmon. I'm definitely for growing peas next year, abso-deffo-lutely.
I'm glad I hadn't a mouthful of coffee when I saw your pic gbNow I'm singing "I like big butts and I cannot lie!"
I've very thirsty toms, watering them every other day now. And bad news - the Hanging Baskets of Barbylon were a bust. Whether it was carp compost that couldn't hold on to the water, or gravity sucking it down from them, I don't know. But they're in bags now looking very sorry for themselves. Might lose the lot of them actually. I've still got the grobag ones though
Speaking of apps, the Merlin Bird ID one that was recommended (thank you again lurker, still loving it) tells me I have all kinds of wee birds, a few birds it tells me are "uncommon" but no sparrowsI thought they were common as muck, but not round here they're not. All the ones I thought were sparrows are either dunnocks or wrens. I think it's the dunnocks that have nested in Lovely Neighbour's roof...
OT warm here, again. 17' my phone says, high of 21' and mostly cloudy all day. It says slightly gusterly westerlys but there's not a breath of wind out there.
Oh and the neighbours are back together.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Pics. Blooms past their best for 2p (the pollen was a bu99er to get up, heres a tip - do not get it wet!
)
Out for a walk last night I finally got a pic of this. They make me smile every time I drive past themThat’ll do.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.9 -
Love your fireplace BlueyI still don't have one. All the other life carp keeps getting in the way and so many shops closed since the pandemic and beautiful old ones won't look right here. And cut the stamens off the lillys when you buy them. Seems harsh but that stuff permently stains etc as you've found out.I chuckled about the Pyrowhatsit. Love them but I've an idea you're neighbour may be right and we'll be reading of you trimming back those thorny stems and acussing. The animals made me smile too. I bet their owners are interesting people. There's a lady who painted her bungalow garage pale pink and a bit out front. So not conforming to the others and a neighbour said 'I don't know why she did that!' - well I do, it makes me smile every time I drive past. A little bit of defiance against conformity. It's cool and dark here like an autumn day, heavy cloud but dry so far so planning on maintenance and some sorting out.Dull stuff but needs doing before winter. Back to the exercises too.And car still not solved. Going to try a new fuel filter next week and he says if I leave it with them next week he'll try to get it not to start so he can hear what it sounds like. Good guy.Greenbee, what the heck is that?

2p - they are IBCS - 1000L tanks for water storage. I plan to use them for the veg plot. A neighbour was getting rid of them, and offered to deliver.

I like your fireplace too, YBE.
Agree with twopenny about snipping the lilies before they go powdery. I actually like pulling rather than snipping them off - it's quite a satisfying sound/feel or maybe I'm just weirdAlso, they're poisonous to pussycats, just in case any delinquents wander into your house. If I have lilies in the house I put them in the porch to avoid headaches and poorly kitties.
I'd keep the pyracantha too. I had one with orange berries and I liked the smell of the flowers, even though I remember Farway saying they smelt of wee haha. Not to me, I thought they smelt honeyish or maybe I really am just weird...
Autumnal feeling here too, twopenny, although the sun is out at the moment.'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -

Thanks 2p, I love the fireplace too. It's purely ornamental though. Well it does work but it takes t-o-o-o l-o-o-n-g to warm up and you'd be hours waiting on the room getting warm. My pyracantha (sp?) is only a few inches high yet, but if it goes mental I'll be on here like a flash ha haa! I know what you mean about a bit of defiance - I'd love to knock on the door and talk to them but you can't really. Your garage man seems to have a bit of sense, fingers crossed your car plays up for him too. Just had a thought - could you record yourself starting it so he can hear it, in case it works perfectly while it's in the garage...?
That mangey mongrel poor soul isn't allowed in the house at all so no fear about the lilles. Right, off to pull the stamens (I'm a weirdo too when it comes to queer things like that.) I can't remember/don't know what the bush is called, but there's something that produces clusters of white berries and the sound when you pop them is lovely. The insides are kinda fluffy too. Very pleasing. And my favourite - did you know that dandelions clocks are flammable? Stick your lighter under the bottom and they go up like a diddy wee atomic bomb. Now that is pleasing
Edit - that’s another addiction for my list, thanks ppI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
I've never heard of the dandelion thing.Of course now I'm going to have to try it :Re the car. Almost impossible to record from the driving seat. And he said that wouldn't be any good. He needed to hear it for himself. Sheesh he's tried starting it a lot of times. Knows with my not being able to walk I really need it.I'm getting to know the receptionist personal life and his I've been there so much.
