Awful weather - typical Brits talk

A bit cooler, still hot & sunny though, my runners are loving it, lots of pretty pink flowers, they'd match a pink dog. Perhaps a thought for Rottey Acres? Barbies garden, pink flowers & pink dogs, different at least.I'll probably have to water the front again today, did the back pots yesterday because some were drooping in the heat despite only having been done the day before.Still not sorted out a posh fuchsia's pic.LessImpecunious said:Hmm, thanks Farway - mine came from an online supplier who I've had seeds from before which were not quite what they purported to be, which is why I was wondering - they are fruiting heavily and very early though, which is what they're supposed to do. Search of online images shows quite a variation in appearance... Looking forward to a proper taste test when they ripen fully!Apart from watering, nothing else required garden wise today, too hot and energy sapping anywayToday's pic is the own grown, potted up & growing on, Lavender & Aquilegia I grew from seed. The Aquilegia [left on pic] may need to move up a pot size before the winterI've nipped out tops of lavenders to get them bushyEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7

I was going to do a proper cabbage check this morning but ended up with only a quick water today as the neighbour at the back has some scaffolding up and builder's doing something to the roof so I felt watched... At the end of the garden where the hedge blocks the view, I pulled about a quarter of my broad beans. They could have stayed longer, but the bed is really congested and the squash and tomatoes needed the air/sun. Still ended up with an iceland bag size full (obviously yet to know how many actual beans that relates to - that's this lunchtime's activity).
PP, I get what you mean about the tomato smell. If they could bottle it then it'd be worth a fortune. Only thing close to it is petrichor
2p I think we're sharing the same secateurs (took me longer than I'd admit to work out how to spell them)! I've completely tipped out my gardening bag and double checked where I keep my wellies/gardening gloves/all the 'logical' places I might have put them down. Nope. Hope they're enjoying their holiday with youI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -
You've just reminded me I've completely forgotten to doing anything with my aquilegia seedlings Farway, I'll get on that today while I've still a wee bit of shade at the back of the house.
I need to get on and sort the rampant jungle collection of pots that I've got sat about. Bob the Builder is coming Friday to look over the founds and bricks with a view to starting Monday. So whoever prayed for rain and cold in Portugal was successful
Bladdy warm here, again, but poss a little cooler than yesterday. There's a breeze trying to get in my (closed and blinds pulled) front windows which is useless cos that's where the sun is. Thunderstorms tomorrow, they say. Well sobers say a bit of rain at 0600, drunkards says everybody from Newcastle to Exeter should be in fear of their lives for the whole day, and Tusky says a skinny band of rain about noon. Honestly, it's a good job they aren't charging us for this nonsense
Today I will mostly be doing pictures.
Bee Bums - (it would've been good if they'd behaved and I'd got them on the one pic but...)
A tuffity babby robin/a run-ragged parent was asking me "which is my best side...?"
That'll do.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -

The smell of tomatoes home grown was the smell of one of the candles my dd picked up at the garden centre😂 said she loved it ,said it reminded her of her grandads greenhouse.🥰 you don’t get that on shop bought.
Was hotter than ever yesterday, consultant took out remaining stitches, there’s a couple he said we’re too small to pull but should dissolve eventually.
The rain woke me at 4 am ,it’s looking dull still and I’m off to work but forcast was for sun later.
YBE cute little Robin looks like he needs a brush up. Farway that’s a great Morries , shame they don’t take advantage of the massive space, maybe find the manager and make suggestions 😉
Arb I know what you mean about workmen being about I hate to feel watched doing the garden.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.4 -
Jeez that's some morries you've got there Farway, even if the staff are useless! I wonder if some optimistic soul would risk the dead stuff if they were a couple of quid. Maybe that's Plan B for when they've properly died. Did you hoover up a bee when you were sniffing your toms..? I don't like that smell myself, it's a nose wiggling acrid smell to me
Petrichor I could sniff that all day long, I agree Arb
The (poorly pictured) robin is a babby, he was being fed yesterday but I didn't get pic of that. Kinda late to be having babies isn't it? Must be that Global Boiling or something. Ooh I nearly said something about lifting the child cap but I'll not
Hope you can take it steady today wort, they need to be running round after you for a bit.
Humid here and coolish at 16' but it doesn't feel like it. No rain yet (shocker) but it's on it's way, they promise.I'm walking Handsome again this morning, Lovely Neighbour's dog walker has abandoned our village cos it's a bit far to come for only one dog. It will therefore lash down like has never been seen before at 1030. Which is fine by me cos then we'll have the fields to ourselves
Today's first pic (from in shop dahn sarf, I forgot I'd taken it) is on topic re smells -It really only smely like lemon thyme to me but it was a lovely fresh smell, very pleasant.
Also here’s our sky from last night. Better in real life, it was more nuanced and delicate but this pic is ok. Bit Escher-ish, it was stand+stare worthy -And I’ve a car one for you 2p when I’ve worked out to scrobble out the number plate.
I've been ages doing this post and it's still not raining....I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
We had a sky like that Bluey, I nearly photographed but I've got too many already that need sorting out. Very pretty and I don't know what it means.Who was the cloud expert on here?Very hot yesterday and I had a visitor so the heat made up ramble and chatter, stop for coffee and such.I took the hose to the veg and some of the plants and didn't mind getting sprayed.Hot night, climbing rose is going brown all over - that't the enormous one all over the fence.Had some small birds in to visit this morning after a long abscense, a weird mix of tits, sparrows and greenfinch so I'm wondering if a storm is really coming.Seems we had a shower at some point but only a bit of damp paving in patches. The cloud is seperating for patches of blue sky.......anybodys guess really.Wort, that's good about the stitches out. Just take care though for a few days and let yourself heal. Perhaps you could practise making tomato scented candles
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

Weather is supposed to be thunder etc, but it's just dull & warm. Could do with a good drenching to top up the bird bath if nothing else.Went tomato sniffing, blowed if I could smell anything
, maybe it's an enclosed space smell, like in a greenhouse?
Nice sky YBE, it's hard to capture some things on “film”, which is where a painting winsPlant news, the new sowing / wetting? of broad beans made last week, now geminated & on the way, some have white root shoot poking outIf going to plan, hopefully pot up & grow on sometime next week.Take it easy Wort, maybe just a bit of tomato sniffing for the time beingIf rain doesn't arrive i think I'm going to need the hose out later for the pots in the back, the runners especiallyPic today, these smell lovely, maybe over powering to someGrowing in pots at the volunteer spot, I have them near, but not reachable from, the public pavement, so they can be enjoyed but not nicked.Stargazer liliesEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -

Time for some dock v tomato smell tests?twopenny said:Who was the cloud expert on here?(we miss you!

My attempt at id (with thanks to my Cloud Appreciation Society Cloud Selector spin wheel thingy) is Cirrocumulus...5 -
Thanks for the pointer to the broad bean seeds - they are the only one of my selection that says you can do a second sowing, so that's my plan for the weekend, in the hope that I get a better crop than I did on the last one. I LOVE broad beans!7
