greenbee said:Thanks for the pointer to the broad bean seeds - they are the only one of my selection that says you can do a second sowing, so that's my plan for the weekend, in the hope that I get a better crop than I did on the last one. I LOVE broad beans!Best of luck, nothing lost and a lot to gain if all goes wellNow then, now then

Ta ra, my Veranda Red have landed, this bit of sun seems to have done the trick. I'll let it ripen a tad more before tastingNot sniffed, in my excitement I forgot that bitEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8 -
Thanks Les, I like the look of the Cloud Appreciation Society Cloud Selector.More user friendly than an app probably. I might get one, I love clouds and my house has a view of open skies, well a lot of places around here do.I like the word 'cloudlets' tooFarway you are an inspiration!Too hot and sticky to really want to do anything much more than standing and dripping. Besides I'm stiff after walking 3miles yesterday. The muscles aren't used to it - but it's getting a bit further each timeThere are signs of little Runner Beans on my plants, fingers crossed. And what's this doing in AugustI guess it's the equivellent of bolting as it's been so dry.And my first ever Cosmos!Ok so a table tennis mate bought them in ready in pots so I just had to plant them out and waitYes, there is Love in the Mist Farway. I didn't like to mention that mine are everywhere

I have one tomato ripening, probably about the same stage as the bottom tomato in your pic, Farway. Lovely lilies - I love the smell, but they give me a headache. Same with daffodils.
That's an unusual sky, YBE, really nice. Lovely baby robin - I had an adult robin in the garden on a significant date this weekfirst one I've seen for a while. I love the sound of that handwash too.
Glad you're getting some movement back, twopenny. That's a very pretty Cosmos. What's the other (vegetable) plant above it??
AR & YBE, I need to google petrichor - never heard of it??
Potatoes for dinner again last nightI'd boiled two day's worth of Roosters the other day (tossed in Clover as still no butter), so they got roasted in some olive oil, smoked paprika and garlic seasoning. The skins had come off some of them, but they were chucked in as well. DH was VERY happy with the result and I must admit they were really good.
Lovely weather today - warm (by up North standards!!) and sunny.'A watched potato will never chit'...8 -

, LI mist, we don't talk about that either
Runners, I think I have an embryo, lots of flowers now but that is no guide these days
Here's a manky apple I spotted this morning, I'll remove it next time I'm out thereI suspect its Codling Moth inside

Petrichor is the smell you get before it rains pp, up there yous might call it steur (sp?) like we always did.The tom smell - I’m wondering now if I’m talking about the same smell. I mean the one you get when you handle the leaves or brush against the leaves even, that’s what makes my nose squiggle. Thanks for robin info Less, makes sense I guess. Make hay while the sun shines and all that. Hopefully there’s a lot of hay making going on in the bottom left hand corner of the country…
Love in a Mist, next year I’m gonna start them early and do dozens and dozens so I end up knee deep in them, I really am.Gb I hope you have even half Farway’s luck (well not luck but you know what I mean). It’s something I never eat is broad beans 😣
Cloud Appreciation Society would do me rightly, I love them! We used to have a weatherman on our local news - Jon somebody - and his catchphrase was “Look up, it’s freeee”
Anyway I came on to say I’ve got your car pic done 2p. The sticker on the right made me actually laugh! Maybe knowing what not to get will help you narrow down what you do wantI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Poppy the veg is Purple sprouting Broccoli - which should sprout Feb 2025!Definitely going for potatoes next year if I can find a space. What compost did you grow them in?Sorry FarwayBluey, good stickersI saw a mobility scooter with 'my other car is a Ferarri' and when I commented to the lady she said, yes, she used to drive fast cars. Sad, but good to keep the sense of humour.Been out on the moors and it's still hot. Found some unusual heather. Photos eventually. And with one of the most scenic spots in the British Isles and a gorgeous day, people were sat just outside their cars glued to the phone screen. I despair.

Yeah...I mean I understand taking photos on your phone but then they live in never never land and never get looked at again...Take one and remember the rest with experience...congratulations on your cosmos!I had the last of my potatoes fried up with rosemary, garlic and salt [ all dried and whizzed up to a powder for putting on meat and veg while cooking] and very nice they were too...YBE, don't spend loads getting seeds, just got to the supermarket and get nigella seeds from the herb section, lots cheaper and loads more [ I did the same with caraway - which obligingly came up only to be eaten...or I might have put them somewhere and forgot where] Yes, the smell of the leaves and stalks on your hands where if you touch them too much your hands go greeny yellow. I like your white bee bum.Coastal fennel so far looks nothing like regular fennel, if it carries on growing, I'll take a pic. The one true leaf it has looks more like a acqulegia leaf.Arb, that meadowsweet looks lovely...awww...!!!!!! cat...Farway, the tomatoes I thought were ripening turned out to have blossom end rot so they've all been chucked now. It's been a funny old year...Too hot to do anything, not even halfheartedly watered ok, a littlebit watered..I've been sweating just sitting still. I potted on one tomato today and did the watering of the greenhouse [ not the pots though, a job for tomorrow when it's cooler.Work is proceeding apace, foundations are down already and blocks are starting tomorrow. Most of the garden is now covered in builders stuff so at least I don't have to cut the grass.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7

I'm back, apparently.
It appears I went off-topic, mentioning a very obvious conspiracy theory that I've been duped into thinking was something potentially real. I think it could be a bit like not mentioning owning gold to an IFA. I did that once, and the stare I received was enough to freeze hell over!
The good news is, in the interim, the very real threat of losing our hay crop hasn't come to pass. A sudden break in the cool, damp weather allowed a cut, three turns and a baling, all in 4 days flat. Some who went early weren't so lucky; one chap I heard about having his wrapped bales blow up as they rotted from the inside. None of this means much to those in desk jobs, but for farmers, it's the difference between profit and loss. Here, consequences aren't so dire, but we like to see a steady return based on zero input of manufactured fertilizers. I'm pleased to report the yield was fine, and the quality was good too. We could no doubt produce more, but a bit of muck goes far enough for us.twopenny said:I saw a mobility scooter with 'my other car is a Ferarri' and when I commented to the lady she said, yes, she used to drive fast cars. Lovely to see you back DustyI've been avoiding the road with the restored second hand minis in. I don't like the people who own the garage anyway but my friend bought one there. Had to take it back 3 times - but it's desperate times.Taff I'm of the put up with boring kitchens to avoid having my life disrupted. No the folks on phones were not taking photos, just staring at social media, emails etc never looking up.Arbs that puss cat photo was gorgeous. What a picture of beauty and innocenceSo off to take the car in again, photo group and if still cool enough this afternoon put stuff on the path to clean it, de leaf the tomato plants and anything else I can do if my bits work.My massive climbing rose is not all brown/black with black spot I think. I've never seen the like. The rest of the roses are ok but this is a newer variety. It will have to do it's thing because it's too massive to tackle. Now I must go and look at that Cloud Appreciation Society and work out what we've got today.

Welcome back Dusty. The thing about conspiracy theories is that they're called that to denigrate and also when they are proved to be true, they won't be conspiracies any more, yes?2P, I'm just thinking end goal, end goal...I think mobiles should come with warnings, beware, dumbing down and self absorption will be an end result for many users....The potted on tomato has revived a bit so I'm hopeful for some Banana Legs at some point this year. Now I need to find courgette recipes as I found a larger than average one today...Stay frosty everybody!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6
