HSBC or RBS?

I bank with both, no problems with either in terms of personal banking. The HSBC app is better. I am not a fan of HSBC due to political movements however, but they do offer the 2.75% saver capped at £250, RBS only offers is 3% digital saver capped at £50 a month. RBS rewards account also.
Opening both accounts was fine. HSBC requested I come to branch, I got to speak to the manager and he set up my account, sent me a few emails about the account. RBS was all online, just had to send a photo of my driving license. I have held two HSBC accounts at different times and easily accepted on both occasions. The second time they asked more questions.0 -
Depending on what ethical league table you prefer, also far bigger ethical questions out there to worry about.gsmh said:Both banks are at the very bottom of the ethical league table so if you care about that sort of thing you wouldn't open an account with either.0 -
Members of this forum seem to feel they can completely ignore ethics by denying there is any commonality involved. I am clearly on a different page. Investing in companies which contribute to global warming, for example. Does anyone think that is a good thing? I would genuinely be interested to know of these alternative ethics of which you speak. Is there a league table where RBS and HSBC are higher up using alternative ethics as a guide? These bigger ethical questions you mention. Maybe they are more of a problem because of big banks funding the wrong side? Please educate me and stop suggesting that thinking ethically is somehow wrong and that I am confused. The OP asked which of the two is better, I answered his questing by suggesting neither and gave a reason as to why I think that. I can provide evidence if you wish but @colsten might have an apoplectic fit. Before I am attacked yet again for trying to do the right thing in my life, I am answering the question.NottinghamKnight said:Depending on what ethical league table you prefer, also far bigger ethical questions out there to worry about.0 -
No, OP specifically asked which might be less hassle:gsmh said:

I make no comment about your unilateral decision to introduce ethics into the thread but don't kid yourself that this was solicited!fly-catchers said:Thinking of transferring my Tesco Bank to either HSBC or RBS for their bribe! But which might be less hassle? As going through various threads HSBC might be worse! And as I am still having problems accessing and using my new Virgin money account don't need any more complications if I can help it!8 -
I am clearly such a wicked person. I am so sorry for constantly trying to do the right thing.0

I visited an ethics forum set up to discuss ethics and tried to educate them on money saving issues. I was amazed to find that many of the regulars criticised me for inappropriate and off topic posts.

You're obviously quite entitled to have your own opinion about what 'the right thing' is but if you must insist on shoehorning it into conversations where it wasn't sought or needed then you should expect some resistance, especially if you falsely try to claim relevance to the question that was actually asked....gsmh said:I am clearly such a wicked person. RBS is likely to be less hassle (i.e. quicker) to open but HSBC is likely to be the better bank accountfly-catchers said:Thinking of transferring my Tesco Bank to either HSBC or RBS for their bribe!
