It is first time somome tells me no to renewal cancellation request.
So my message was clear I want autorenewal cancelled, but they can send me new quote.
In response I got:
Hello
What is it that your looking to do?
We cannot stop your renewal as of yet as its not until xx/xx/2021,
Renewals get generated 30 days before there renewal date,
Thanks for taking the time to contact us,
Aviva eCommerce Support Team
Is there something that I don't know?
Thanks

the correct request would be to ask them to “lapse” your policy.
however it’s early for 2021. They may give you a great deal or you might have an unsettled claim outstanding and want to stay with them.
do you not have a calendar that you can put a reminder in for a month before.
i use iCloud but there are loads of technologies to choose from including paper (sometimes I prefer paper).

Why do you want to "remove auto renewal" and spend time on the phone now and then again when you ask them to price match next year? Do you just really enjoy talking to insurance contact centre agents?
Simply await the quote and if you can do better then have one phonecall at that point to see if they will price match or not and lapse the policy then if you can do better elsewhere... less time and effort for you and if something happens to you next year such that you are unable to deal with it at the time, no period of being uninsured either.5 -
Maybe your request to them was as unclear as it is in your post.
You initially post that you've asked them to cancel your renewal. They've interpreted that as in you don't want to renew and have advised that you wait until nearer the renewal date which seems fair enough. That's also how Lisyloo above has interpreted it.
However, you then go on to say you want the auto renewal cancelled which is something different entirely. You need to be more specific.1 -
I don't think you can tell an insurer to cancel auto renewal - you've agreed to it and it's how they run their business. You can lapse your policy but there's multiple reasons why that doesn't make sense far ahead.I just got a great renewal price and have to do absolutely nothing (apart from of course check the documents are still correct).1

If you have online access to your policy, check for the option to turn off auto-renew. It's certainly an option on some of my policies. Failing that just wait until you receive next year's renewal notice and phone them then.

Thank you all for taking time for elaborate answers.I looked into my email generated on them website and it says I have requested 'cancel at renewal (also only option to choose)', which I guess equals cancelling autorenewal. There is no switch to make it easy to cancel, which is ofc foot in a door to make it harder.I change suppliers every year and I was on a phone probably once in last few years. Keeping profile on a comparison website + bit more is less hassle than phones.I cancelled few autorenewals to date and never had a problem.Saying ALL that your comments made me think that I won't get new offer on post. Which advisor didn't put trough clearly.Indeed I use calendar to remind me stuff & me not being able to deal with somthing is exactly a reason Iddon't like autorenewals. If I'll be in coma etc...I think you get me on that.0

I'd have thought that's a good example of why you do want auto renewal. You're in a coma and your car gets stolen - but because you have auto renewal, you're covered.
You'd also be breaking the law, if your car happened to be parked on a public road and the insurance lapsed, or you had failed to SORN it, but perhaps the authorities would use some discretion, if you were in a coma.6 -

I wouldn't argue about your reasons, they are solid.Decision would be guided by details like car value, where veh is kept...But then having very well developed website, which aviva has. They could just do the switch for it.Then even my trusted person could go on it and change.Trusted people usually are switched on and have no time to deal with hassle of proving they have an authority to do something in the name of coma person.0 -

You are talking about a business and so developing a switch has to have a business case and that business case has to show that the cost of developing the switch will increase profits. When you are talking about a heavily regulated industry you can at least add a 0 to the end of what cost you think it would cost to develop anything.
As already said... the regulator approves of autorenewal due to your coma suggestion or more commonly just people being forgetful/distracted by life. You have to contact the insurer to turn off auto-renewal or you have to contact them to lapse the policy... just delay your conversation for 11 months at which point you can deal with it and have protection for a coma0 -
