Cold call for re-inspecting loft insulation

I've just received a call about my loft insulation causing condensation, saying it should be re-inspected, and they can immediately arrange it.  This sounds rather suspect, and perhaps away around the cold calling regulations. I've heard of plenty of scares about cavity walls but not usually lofts causing condensation!  Has anyone else received any calls like this?

    They must be physic!

Given that they can see into your loft and into your house without stepping foot in it!

Tell them two words (hint it ends with off)

Don't allow them beyond the front door. Ask for identification and take a photo of that and the sales person.  If they have any issue with you doing that, call the non-emergency police number and report them with as much detail as possible.

I heard on the Beeb yesterday (so it must be true! :D) that the government are going to allow cold calling IRO the new green home renovation voucher system. Great news for the elderly and gullible, I'm sure.
And yes, we've had the phone call regarding the free insulation we had, so our details were sold on. I just told the guy he was the spawn of Satan and put the phone down. So far, no further contact.

It was the same or linked to the company who installed it, that's how they claim to know what type of insulation is up there!

How do you know it was the same or linked company?
    Did they tell you that?
Or did you look them up on the Companies House website?
It's quite possible to find out which company did an area or neighbours houses by just a phone call. It's probably possible to track it some way if someone wishes to find the information.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

It's equally likely the details of installations are sold, just like much other data that is routinely collected from business transactions.

There's a simple rule: ignore anyone who phones you, emails you, rings the door bell etc unless you have previously asked them to get in touch.
Decide for yourself what work you need done, and decide for yourself which contractors to use.

Not necessarily, most homes have fibreglass these days so it's a good bet.

Hang up on cold calls on the phone, and shut the door on cold callers to the house.  Simple.
