British Gas direct offer competitive?

I went on the MSE Cheap Energy Club site as my current contract ends on October 31st, and a few offers down the list is SSE at £1,312pa for my dual fuel usage.
I just had a direct email from my current suppliers, British Gas, with an offer 'not available elsewhere' of £1,317.
The best offer on Cheap Energy Club for big name suppliers is EDF at £1288, but I haven't got a smart meter.
My questions are, why are MSE members often quoting BG as having very high prices (or just being anti BG generally)? Is this offer as competitive as it seems?
TIA

As this is a money saving site, a plea to go for separate suppliers. I'm beating all those rates using different suppliers. For me, dual fuel hasn't been as competitive for years, possibly decades although my records don't quite go back that far.

If I went with separate suppliers I would be paying £1.82 more for electricity and £27.16 for gas per year based on the Shell Energy quote.
So better staying with dual fuel and better staying with British Gas, at least until May 2021

You can’t say any of that for sure, the £ figures they give are really just estimates, a particularly cold winter would blow that out of the water, as would a mild one. All you do is aim for the lowest rates / kWh and lowest standing charge and go from there. What it will eventually cost is totally down to what you use.

Someone clearly doesn't know how to use comparison sites !  Unless you live on Rockall?
In my area you wouldn't have to pay more than £819.57. httpsimages6moneysavingexpertcomimagesforum_smiliessport-smiley-001gif
Hint: start with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?' and use separate suppliers.
  • Depending on your region and usuage Powershop in East Midlands E7 tariff is 14.87p day,  7.84p night and standing charge 19.53 beats Neon Reef.
