I came here with the same problem. I can't believe that the "all or nothing" approach is considered acceptable with a community who participate (and thereby subscribe to) hundreds of different threads over many months or years.
In my case, a thread I posted in once is now well into the 30th page of repetitive and tedious comments. However I still get e-mails every day telling me when every single new post is made, even though I haven't participated in it... and indeed completely lost all interest in it... months ago!
I used to be a Moderator on a couple of popular VBulletin forums almost 20 years ago and this was an easy thing to do back then, so the update certainly doesn't feel much like "progress" in this respect!
A 2 minute Google search showed me that there is a plugin available for the Vanilla forum software MSE now use which identifies and addresses this very issue which the author describes as an "annoying oversight" and which allows the users to unsubscribe to individual threads, I hope the Admin team consider testing it out!• The rich buy assets.

• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.1 -
Ditto. I was just going to post re the same problem. I have some threads I want to see replies and comments from and then I made a comment on a thread the other day which is very active and I am sick and tired of the constant emails whenever anyone replies. I thought to solve this I would have to unbookmark however this does not work. So, it the solution I would need to untick Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in. This will therefore mean other threads where I do want to read replies I will no longer get them? The best things in life are free.....1

Can't you untick "Notify me when people comment on discussions I've participated in" and then Bookmark the individual ones you do want to read replies on? Then you can Unbookmark any Bookmarked ones that you no longer want to hear about, as and when.Enigmatic_Me said:Ditto. I was just going to post re the same problem. This is daft, so any bookmarked posts send an email out every time someone replies. It should send 1 email out when someone replies and then no more until you have gone to the site and caught up. Why does it have to do an email every single time. It used to be that it would send you 1 email for the first new reply and then would say on there may be others. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->1

It is not the same as it used to be and probably never will be.richardc1983 said:This is daft, so any bookmarked posts send an email out every time someone replies. This is a totally different platform for the forum and does not do what the old one used to do.
It does these things because it is a new forum, not the old one.
I don't know how many different ways that people need to be told these things.2 -
We know, but why is an important feature that has been a central part of internet bulletin board software for decades no longer included in this 'new' forum? Sounds like a backwards step to me.It does these things because it is a new forum, not the old one.
I don't know how many different ways that people need to be told these things.
But then of course the days of good quality internet discussion boards are well and truly over in favour of the daft social media inspired generation.

Generally, when things are changed or amended, they become more functional and user friendly. This new site is certainly not that. I am not sure why it is so difficult to implement which posts email you and which don't. You can no longer subscribe to busy posts as is it send an email every single time a reply is posted. Surely this is something that can be done at the website host level so that only 1 email sent and then resets when the user has been on to read the topic they are following.duncanthedog said:
