Forgot to tell insurance about penalty points for 3 years

Let's look at the scenarios...
1. You say "Umm, Mr Insurer... I know you can't see it on my licence, but I've sort of forgotten to tell you about this in my August 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 renewals. Yes, it was very fresh in Aug 2016 - only a month earlier... I'm very sorry."
Best case: this year's premium is higher.
I don't know if they could retrospectively increase the premium for those previous years to reflect the risk they were actually covering.
Worst case: they decline your renewal.
2. You stay schtum.
2a. They don't see the offence on your licence record, and have no other industry sources that would show it.
2b. They twig somehow.
I cannot see how 2b would happen, now that the conviction is off your licence record. But 2 is the situation you would be in if your father hadn't made that off-the-cuff remark.
It's entirely your choice.
What would I do? Well, I'd have remembered to tell them when I renewed the month after the conviction. But that boat has sailed. There is a school of thought that says that rehabilitiation of offenders legislation puts the conviction out of reach before five years anyway.0 -
Assuming that the OP told their previous insurer about the points, there will be a record of these so if the new insurer decides to check with the previous one, the conviction will come to light.
I'm wondering if they have already done this hence the reason for only asking for a copy of the licence and share code now.0 -

When you take out insurance, one of the statements that you specifically agree to is the sharing of your personal information.
Something like this:

They may well have done some online quotes prior to their renewal and mentioned the points there and this has somehow been picked up by their present insurer.0 -
The years since then are more explainable, given the "Well, I'm just renewing last year's, and nothing's changed since then..."0 -
I know it's not an excuse but I had a lot going on at the time and I was just going through the motions.
Thank you everyone for your comments. I have things sorted now.1
