I renewed my insurance policy at the beginning of August, last week I had an email from my insurer that they wanted a copy of my photo license and the share code for the electronic part. It wasn't until I went to my parents house to use their scanner that my dad said "as long as you've told them about your speeding a few years ago everything should be fine" it dawned on me that I hadn't! When I viewed my license online it didn't show any points or date of the offence. I then realised that insurers ask for those types of things for 5 years. I will phone my insurance and explain the situation but I was wondering what the possible outcome would be? I have already sent the information they asked for as it had to be done by tomorrow (30th September).
Thanks in advance...

They can refuse to reinsure you .
They can blacklist you , which means you need to disclose both the refusal and the blacklist when applying for future insurance
Could be a very expensive "mistake"Ex forum ambassador

When was the offence, and what was the outcome?
Fixed penalty, three points, £100 will show for four years from the date of the offence.
Speed Awareness Course will never show, and does not need to be declared.

Worst case scenario is that they void your policy for non-disclosure/fraud, that doesnt blacklist you but most insurers ask if you have ever had insurance cancelled, voided etc and you will have to answer yes to that going forward, indefinitely with most insurers. Some will refuse to quote and others will load your premiums significantly as you've proven to be untrustworthy.
Best case scenario is that they accept it was an honest mistake, adjust your premiums to reflect the offence and probably charge you an admin fee for doing so. You will then have a choice of paying that revised figure or cancelling the policy at which point the revised figure is still payable for time on cover and a cancellation fee will be added.0 -
By blacklist I mean that insurer can opt to not insure you again or at least price you out of the market when quotingEx forum ambassador

@AdrianC Yes it shows 0 offences and 0 points no list of prior offences, which would be just this one.
The offence was exceeding a 30mph zone, I am sure it was 2017. I accepted the fine and points as I had already done the speed awareness course just under 3 years prior.

Do you have any other way of checking when it was? Perhaps to see when the penalty was paid from your bank account?
If it was before September 2016, then it wouldn't show any more. Insurers see the same list you do.
If that was the case, then there's still the risk of them cross-referencing you back to a previous policy declaration. But that would apply even without you sticking your mitt up now.
Given that it doesn't show on the licence check, and you've not had any comeback in the last few years from it, I think I'd be very tempted to keep schtum now...1 -
@AdrianC
I have just checked my bank statements from 2016 onwards, the fine was paid in July 2016 (not sure why I thought is was 2017) I have been with the same insurer for about 9 years now and not had any other offences during this time.

If you paid the fine in July, I suspect the actual offence was about May? So this is the last year's policy it'll need to be declared anyway.0 -
@AdrianC
So you're saying I should keep quiet about it, if they can't see it on my licence?
Sounds about right for the dates, I can't remember exactly if I'm honest.0 -
